Need 1TB NVMe 2242 SSD for my Laptop

Posted 10th Apr 2023
I am looking for a good 1TB NVMe 2242 SSD that I can install as a second drive for my laptop. It seems that SSD 24mm are very easy to come by. Any suggestions?

    I have a Crucial MX500 1TB, also an integral P series 1TB ssd.
    Both work fine.

Thanks for your response. However, I am looking for NVMe type (not SATA). Sorry, I did not mention that in my post.

Thank you for directing me to WeBuy website. Is this a second-hand item? If yes, do you think that it will be worth it to spend £40 extra for a brand new one on Amazon?

Thanks for suggesting these! Unfortunately, they will not fit in my laptop, as they are 80mm long (I need ones which are 42mm long).

Seems a lot of people are reading "NVME" and immediately assuming you need a standard 2280. Unfortunately the 2242 NVMEs are significantly more expensive than their 2280 cousins. Personally I'd go with a Sabrent Rocket, they're fast and have a really good reputation for reliability. Amazon have them in 512gb, 1Tb and 2Tb flavours, but the 1Tb is around £120. That's about twice as much per Tb as a 2280 NVMe.

Might be more cost effective to just buy a 2280 and put it in an external caddy.

Thank you for your suggestions! I prefer to not use the SSD as an external driver, as I am travelling a lot and want it secured inside my laptop.

Hi OP. I've looked around for you and honestly because of your requirements of it being in 2242 I don't think it's a great idea if you're using it as a secondary drive.

Your best bet is to get a Sabrent Rocket which is expensive for the 1tb or go to AliExpress, for the same amount of money you can get a 2tb external SSD from Crucial (the x6/x8) for around the same money. It's worth considering since it's a very small market.

Here's the Sabrent I just mentioned:

I personally use the X6 (Crucial) and it's extremely tiny, and I know you commented previously about having it secure in your laptop and don't want to it to take up a lot of space. It won't, but it's worth throwing it in there for a more cost effective solution. (edited)
