Descale light on Morphy Richards 43330 power steam elite

Seeking advice on my steam iron.

I have a Morphy Richards model 43330 power steam elite.

As per the instructions I have emptied the water tank poured about half tank worth of water swirled and emptied the tank throughly ensured that the screw is tight and switched on.

The descale light would not switch off. Repeated the above process several times but the light would not switch off.

I rang MR helpline and was told to rinse with deionised water. Tried the whole process several times and left it overnight as well with the water in the tank before emptying it.

Rang again and was told that I may have trapped air so was asked to leave the chamber open for two hours before replacing the screw and failing that I would have to replace it with a new iron.

By the way they have a special deal on a new iron for existing customers.

It appears that they are more interested in flogging me with a new iron.

As soon as I switch on the iron from cold some steam comes out but light does not cut out. Steam does not come out after a while.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Can't you use descaling liquid

Try food grade citric acid put in 2 tablespoons in the tank let it heat up then leave over night. I use it in my iron and steam mop and kettle.

According to MR helpline and iron instructions I should not use any descaling liquid.

Adding any descaling or any other liquid is not recommended. I will try this as a last resort.

I have had this problem with my Morphy Richards iron and have found that you have to fill the chamber with tap water several times and shake it empty over the sink. Bits of scale will come out with the water and you will need to refill and shake until no more bits of scale come out. Then replace the screw and turn on iron. Don't worry if the descale light is still on as it will go off once the iron heats up. If it doesn't go off you will need to repeat the rinsing out of the chamber with water.

Sounds like they don't want you to descale at all so it goes bang then you have to buy another one. That's crap food grade citric acid is used in foods we eat so it will not do no lasting damage to anything.

Thanks will try this tomorrow. It's a bit annoying to have to do this as I have done it at least 8 times.

True. No mention of repair just wanted to sell not only an iron but other stuff as well.

Finally got it sorted. In case someone has the problem this is what I did not sure it will work for anyone else.

Added white vinegar and water to the tank. Gave it a thorough shake and left it for a few hours. Emptied the tank and rinsed with water.
Left the tank open for a couple of hours upside down to let any trapped air to evaporate.

Replaced the screw and cleaned the reservoir ensuring it is correctly placed. Restarted and still the light would not go off.

Started ironing and after about half an hour of ironing it started working.

Not sure if it was a combination of the above but somehow I feel that the design of this iron has not been thought through.

Thanks for all who answered my post.

Just had a problem with our steam generator. Descaled several time but light wouldn't go out. Emptied the water tank was and shaked it until I heard the ball bearings drop. Refilled the water tank and its now working fine.

    Glad you got it working.

Had the same problem with the light. After reading your posts I decided to bash the unit on the ironing board and it started working. The light went out!
