O2 phone will not receive calls from EE numbers

Posted 7th Apr 2023
I was with EE and contract was coming to an end.

Contacted EE to see if they could do a good deal on an upgrade.

EE had really poor deals and I could get a much better deal with O2

Have ported my number to O2 about 2 months ago.

Have just discovered that if people with EE mobiles try to ring me, the line does not connect.

I can however call EE mobiles.

Plusnet has the same problem.

I have an iPhone but have tried the sim in an old nokia brick phone which has the same problem.

Have done a sim swap instore at an O2 shop.

Went into an EE shop today and they said that it may be a porting problem. I then went into the O2 shop who said that said they have not seen this problem before. They have suggested contacting customer services.

Has anyone else had this type of problem before????

the old ee sim had stopped working and I had binned it.

I will try customer services, but it seems to be an odd problem and I am not sure what to ask them to do about it

7 days later (although friday was good friday and monday was easter monday),

    after 4 phone calls

    a facebook messenger chat

an email lodging a complaint after 5 days

    - this has now been sorted

Not sure if lodging an official complaint did speed up the process but the complaints team rang me ato check that it was now sorted and credited my account with £50 (edited)

Changed 2 sims from Plusnet to Lebara last month.
First nothing worked, then out bound calls worked, except EE.
    Then stopped.
Started working and texts and mobile.
    No inbound calls.
After 2 days and restarting my phone a few times all was fine.

I'd guess you need a new SIM card as it has a fault .
    So a sim swap.
I've known similar troubles . It's odd but SIM card can cause this (edited)

Had a similar problem when I swapped networks a few years ago had to convince customer service that it was a problem with the porting . If memory serves me right they did something which took a few days but it got sorted. So speak to them and give examples of at least 2 numbers with date and time of each call. Good luck

I had this problem last year after porting from Vodafone. Only Vodafone and it's mvno services were not able to reach me and I didn't piece it together for about 6 months.

Open an official complaint with customer services and it will get actioned much faster. The problem likely is with o2. Sometimes the porting is not done correctly which means o2 thinks your number is still owned by o2 which makes you unreachable (only to from o2 and it's mvnos) since they are routing calls to you incorrectly (edited)

Had spoken with support on Thursday 6th who advised sim swap

Did sim swap instore on Friday 7th

Had also contacted O2 on Friday 7th using facebook messenger after sim swap.

Rang on sat 8th - told it would be sorted in 4 hours
Rang on Sunday 9th - told to ring on Monday. (I queried this because Monday was bank holiday)
Rang on Monday 10th - told it was bank holiday so they would raise the issue to high level support team on Tuesday and it could take 4-24 hours to resolve.

It was still not sorted, so I took your advice and opened an official complaint with O2 on Wednesday 12th at 00:03

Got a reply from messenger on Friday 14th saying it was now sorted.

Also had call from O2 complaints team on Friday 14th
    - - explained concerns that it had taken a week to sort this (while mum was in hospital with plusnet phone so could not call me)
    - explained that I had called O2 customer services

O2 have apologised and credited £50 to my account

Just to add, same here. I was on O2 and couldn't receive calls from a particular network. O2 said it was a porting issue and sorted it out for me.

What network did you originally get your phone number from?

    I was with EE

    Ported to O2

Mobiles on the EE network can not call me, but I am able to call EE numbers
