Trouble is nobody wants to be driving a Dacia around town

donnyorourke

Do they still make Daihatsu and sell them in the UK?

Newbold

https://www.reliabilityindex.com/manufacturer

madoka_ayukawa

So Renault is more reliable than Peugeot or Citroen then?

donnyorourke

No. Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Vauxhall are all part of the same group. Nissan, Dacia and Renault are together. Most companies share platforms in order to cut costs for R&D, etc. The most reliable car in the Nissan/Renault/Dacia group are the Dacias as they use electronics and other bits from the Megane Mk2 and Clio Mk2 variants as it is tried and tested and reliable compared to the newer stuff the company has produced in recent years.

jpr353

Not sure why this has gone cold, not a bad discount off RRP and coming in brand new at just a touch over what you can get a pre-ref ‘69 plate Gt-line (lower trim than this full GT) for. I’ve added heat! Having said that I’d still buy a seat Ateca or Skoda karoq for the money (lol)

Maybe also invest in a sprinkler system while you're at it. This is all of what remained of my daughter's car after someone decided to torch it (along with three others) a couple of weeks back. Expect more of the same up & down the country. There's going to be a lot of VERY angry people out there very soon...

zaheer2003

ECP will put brake pads from mulltiple differerent sources in the eicher boxes so you may have got some decent ones. it's luck of the draw or russian roulette what you get!

Grem_S

I put a set of Eicher premium on the front of my AMG as an MOT stop-gap pending purchase of a new set of o/e Brembo floating discs (and MB o/e pads). Bear in mind I've put 70k miles on my AMG, town and country, driven hard. My experience? - No difference whatsoever. Same bite, power, fade resistance and wear characteristics compared to the MB, Pagid and Textar used in the past. Accordingly, I left them on until they were spent. YMMV. They cost the princely sum of £9.99, compared to £235 from MBUK. Wish they were still available....

colombo

Code Expired - they are now double the price, maybe the new price will reassure some and buy now at full price rather than half price

jinsta

nowt wrong with saving money, but cheap pattern parts usually just means inferior quality. better off spending tad more and just saving money on a more premium offering

colombo

Yes, I like to save money, thats why I am on this forum

I'm going to pop in here and say i currently own an i20. Its a fantastic car for general driving. It does everything well and nothing outstanding apart from reliability. For a car that gets you from A to B with enough toys and costs less 2nd hand than the equivalent hatch, i can't see past it. The dull dash is beautifully ergonomic and a lovely place to be. Buttons are in all the right places and feel like they'll last a long time. I did consider a 208 but the french can't shake the electrical gremlins. My i20 is coming up to its 5th birthday and it has never let me down. And it'll continue to work for a long long time i reckon. Check this report on the 208 https://www.whatcar.com/peugeot/208/hatchback/used-review/n884/advice

The funny thing is...all these Mclarens, Ferrari, Lambos etc are all leased cars also. Very few are bought and even fewer paid upfront in cash. I agree. When i drove the pure tech 130 in a citroen c3 i thought it was great fun, keep the revs high and if you've got some skill you can keep up with 150bhp diesel's, the guy doesn't know what hes talking about 😴

PankoBreadCrum1

Dwh8611

It’s not so much that you Need a new car, for me it’s more the peace of mind warranty that comes with a new car and knowing the monthly cost is set. It’s also quite nice having the latest tech/safety/improved performance etc the latest models give you. Technology moves so quickly a 5/6 year old car won’t even have carplay/android auto! (horror)

tom.josephs

Why would you need new car if only doing 8-10k miles pa? £100 breakdown cover should be insurance you get home safe. An average mileage 5/6 year old car with good service history would be more than capable of 8-10k pa.

I've lived and worked in the USA and pretty much exclusively drove automatic vehicles - it's not that unrealistic to have the above perception... ;)

gtd65

I have the same experience with my last two KIA cars. With my current KIA Ceed, I've played around with the real time fuel economy and the gear change indicator. I've found that in quite a few cases. you can actually achieve higher MPG, remaining in the lower gear, with less depression on the accelerator pedal than shifting up. I generally tend to ignore the indicator these days and only change up when I feel it's the right thing to do.

Quick look and a sendero with anything like same spec is £8500 https://www.arnoldclark.com/nearly-new-cars/dacia/sandero/0-9-tce-comfort-5dr/2019/ref/cc_dsefgc4dn74dj5dn The 7 year warranty costs £795 and does not cover wear and tear so yes nothings covered yes sir its not covered its worn out will be the normal response on things that will go wrong. Same start/stop technology on the sandero but on most cars it can be switched of... Agree with the tax situation they soon reversed their ideas due to no revenue coming in...

MisterNippy

If you want a new budget car for the sake of a new budget car I cant see how this is a deal for a 3 cylinder petrol engine. You are better off buying a £7000 Sandero - made by the same company with a warranty that can be extended up to 7 years and option of fixed price servicing up to 4 years / 60,000 miles and you can pay for the servicing plan monthly for as little as £9 a month. That STOP/START tech on the 208 will cost you dear in the long run - it has a special starter motor that will fail and cost you an arm and leg to replace. Also in 3 years time when the car battery dies, you will have to fork out for a very expensive amount of money for a special factory battery and not a bog standard £40 like the Sandero requires. This start / stop tech was only brought in to put this car in the £20 / £30 VED tax brackets - now that the tax bracket has gone and you are paying 7 x more for the road tax, you are basically paying for tech that has no financial saving.

nnenne

Thanks a lot, I’ll do that see if there’s any London based ones willing to negotiate

bylromarha

I put filters on auto trader for pre reg/nearly new tech edition. Rang a few of the ones in Peugeot dealerships that met the criteria and got more info directly. If I was still interested after that, I pointed them to the Eden deal to get the price lowered. Made a decision between the final 2 dealerships based on age of pre reg and deal offered. Dead simple.

nnenne

Where did you end up buying the better car, and how please

The old cars like your 1.2 Clio had about 70bhp, engines nowadays can double the bhp. This is 128bhp I think.

Yeah I know, I was generally making a point that the trend is for smaller turbo charges engines which are much better than a few decades ago, even porsche are doing it. My ktm motorbike is single cylinder, 690cc and puts out about 70bhp.

She can keep it for years if she wanted to amd mini actually host a bunch of interesting events at car shows etc. so if she ever decide to go she will like the brand she has as well.
