Combination Air Conditioner Dehumidifier - Do they work?

Posted 8th Apr 2023
Over the winter, we run a dehumidifier with a laundry mode which helps dry clothes and keep moisture off the windows. Given last years heatwave during the summer, we will be in the market for a portable Air Con unit for this year. We don’t have too much space to store an additional stand alone Air Con unit so have been wondering if the combination units are any good?

Something like this for example: appliancesdirect.co.uk/p/s…00e

Do they actually perform as good as stand along Air Con and Dehumidify units?

Asking anyone with experience please

Aircons do the the same as dehumidifier but also have the added bonus of cooling air by design.

An aircon that extracts to the outside is all you need. You won't need both & you will not have to continue to empty collecting water.

Wouldn't really want Aircon on in the winter lol?

Or I presume when ran in a certain mode it doesn't cool (edited)

I'm in the same situation as yourself.
We currently use a Meaco Dehumidifier and it's great but we're looking an Air Conditioner with summer coming.

Look at the Meaco 1056, have 2-3 in each room, keep blinds closed and your be suprised its very good.

having airconditioning is very pricey and inconvenient, the worst we have is 2-3 weeks a year

I managed to buy an air con from Screwfix last year prior to the heat waves, it works great as an air con but rubbish as a dehumidifier. Its pulls about 1.4kW which our Solar PV easily covered. I have a little 7 yr old dehumidifier that pulls 300W of power and does a much better job. I don't know the makes off the top of my head though. So check reviews I guess.
