Think it’ll wait for the £47.99 version on the Switch (annoyed)

Great price for the prince edition, lots of content with the two bits of DLC. I got 100 plus hours easily out of this game and still didnt platinum it

I played maybe a couple of hours or so, and while it does seem like it has a good story (with it being Ghibli and all), the combat felt very off. The combat system had it's limitations in the sequel, but the combat in this so far is much worse. I expect it to open up more, but I can't imagine how much better it can actually get. You press attack once to watch a slow animation of attacking the enemy a few times then repeat.... Not really engaging, apart from defending against special attacks, which feels really slow and clunky. I know everyone has their own opinions, but greatest jrpg of all time is a massive stretch

SFP_NooDLe

Great game but far too expensive for a remaster. Would have been worth it if it was a two disc set and included the sequel. Only a few years ago we'd get top class remasters like Uncharted, Halo and Metro with multiple games for around £30-35. This is just a single game and going for that price alone. I'm gonna wait until it's a tenner like the sequel is going for now. These companies are getting way too greedy and ripping us off for old rope.

Mccy_McFlinn

I've just spent my lunchbreak getting a little further and I think I'm over the initial hump. I've just gained the ability to fly on the dragon, so coupled with the recently acquired fast travel, the game is significantly improved. It's certainly less tedious when looking to purchase items, recover MP or complete quests. Before fast travel, everything felt so slow as even the "improved" running speed perk was glacial in its pace. I'd need some serious convincing that this is one of the best JRPGs of all time, but it's definitely a step above several others I've played. I suppose the real frustration for me was that I was always getting creamed by even low-level enemies and never felt like I was getting on top of it. I'm certainly not getting irritated anymore, but I didn't enjoy having to wait 15-20 hours to feel that way. I've no problem with a game taking its time to fully open up, but it shouldn't be a slog to get there (take Xenoblade Chronicles as an example of a slow build that still feels satisfying).

aj_nu

In that case it's probably not for you and you're not likely to enjoy the rest of it! I loved it when it came out on PS3 - it's one of the best JRPG's to ever came out (IMO). Maybe it hasn't aged well - although I can't really think of many big advancements in the JRPG genre since then. I will pick up this remaster but maybe when it hits the £15 mark later down the line!

Mccy_McFlinn

I'm around 20 hours into this and I have to say that I'm not entirely loving it. It's taken an age to get even remotely rewarding; for the first 10-15 hours, I felt like I was swimming in treacle. It's a good price for the remaster at this point in its life, but I can't say it's a great price for the game overall (from what I've seen so far). Hopefully, it'll pick up from here until the end...

Thank you for posting @TheFluffyWookie29 we have included your thread in the Highlights section :D

Gormond

Yeah my thoughts are the same, the second game was just average IMO.

MungoSplodge

I have this game, still in its wrapper though. Every time its posted i come into the comments and try and get enthusiastic enough to go and play it but never quite manage to get to that level. Its damned with faint praise, nothing that sells the (poo) out of it.

daifuku

I also think NNK1 is stronger, especially on those fronts. NNK2 felt a quite shallow to me. Reckon the kingdom builder was decent idea as a general concept, but really didn't get on with how it was implemented with free-to-play mobile game elements. Many enjoy NNK2 though, so well worth checking it out at this price (y)

Just.Wondering

True, I use an RTX Geforce card , so yes maybe it will still work in HDR on older cards.

jwsg

Prob is just NV cards as you say, worked up to a certain driver release. NV blame the game, Devs did nothing, but a user patched the error. Many areas do look great in HDR - whereas some games its not worth it. Info on steam or https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Ni_no_Kuni_II:_Revenant_Kingdom

Never really bothered with Unity or the Gears series. Just selling off old codes you think? Or is it physical copies too

nyasham

Console and PC, yes. They seem to get re-posted every other day for going down a couple of pence. I think the going rate now is somewhere between 99p and £1.70. They might as well bundle them with Kinder eggs and Happy Meals

CupN00dle

They the ones that keep coming up for pence on PC?

Assassins Creed Unity and Gears of War 4 would like to have a word with you ;)

I just finished this the other week. If you`re a reasonable level gamer, play on the hardest mode, and for what is meant to be a childs game, it`s pretty decent to play. I enjoyed it.

teldel7

The two games are not directly linked by the storyline, only by the title. The battle mechanics are also different. So yes, you can definitely play this before White Witch comes out. Hopefully by the time you finish NNK2, White Witch will have dropped in price ;)

sleepycoyote

Is it worth playing through this now or better to just wait and play through Ni No Kuni: White Witch first when it comes out?

Diancecht

Yeah i was using a pro, maybe im just susceptible to bad aliasing, with the pc version i changed some settings in the ini file to make it look better

Just.Wondering

Fair enough, I play it on PC too, I must admit I do have a pro, but I imagine the game is in 1080p on ps4 and is upscaled via a TV if using a 4k TV, some TV's are better at upscaling though.

BizarreJelly

I didn't think it was as good as the first, story and characters are much weaker but it's still definitely worth a play. I paid full price at release and enjoyed it, so for this price i'd recommend it.

Smithers6

How does it compare to the first game? I’ve heard mixed reviews about the story

Just.Wondering

Very tempting.

Dr-Rjinswand

Enough to warrant the full price, it’s not exactly story heavy like the main game but you get a bit and it adds a good load of gameplay. I certainly didn’t feel ripped off paying full price on launch, so this is fantastic value.

Yeah, pretty much. A mix between classic JRPG and action games thanks to the combat. Graphics is very Ghibli-like. It's not hard to platinum if you like the game - takes about 55-60 hours I'd say. (Just don't install the free adventure dlc as that will increase the difficulty to platinum - makes one of the trophies much harder to obtain)

Cash grab be as cheap buying a ps3 and get it when its 4 quid on the store. I'll no doubt own this before 2020 draws to an end though as my addiction of buying playstation things I dont need ravishes me. Heat for the find plenty of game there.

liltman

I am the exact same! Just redownloaded the second one though and might try to finish it. I stopped close to the end I think, when I had to be forced to go collect many people for the stupid kingdom building lol. That annoyed the crap out of me! The first game is like 9/10 to for me. Second game 6/10

NaughtyDog

Ah **** here we go again... Well, when it hits £20

WaxMechaniK

Loved this game and the second too. Interested to play it again upscaled. But, it’s a minor improvement that doesn’t really warrant a re-release at this sort of price band... especially since the original was heavily reduced and also free at one point. Also, it’s worth noting that the PS3 original was cel shaded and even when played in its original form, actually looks high res. I would have expected this to be just a cheap remaster available on the PS Store...
