Yup, those were the days. 1960's/70's; I would help clean, bathe and change my younger brothers and sisters with my mouth holding large safety pins and a pile of freshly laundered terries on the table (some of which were hand-me-downs, bought by my grandmother when my mother, aunt and uncle were infants in the mid 20's/30's and are still in use today by my younger sister who recently had her third). Like ma and grandma, my sister has added the names of her kids in silk embroidery alongside her siblings and grandma's. Thus a few of the surviving terries carry the names and birth dates of three generations. Back then, manufacturers made stuff that lasted.

Can't rely on these dodgy airlines.. Probably have a bad safety record. The food is also probably not nice..

You're better off flying with Emirates or BA ..

That's exactly right Gillfreebie. If you get your flight first and then find a hotel that's pretty much it. There are a range of resources that will help you get from the airport to the city.
Here are a couple of good starting points that may help you:hereAnd here
Thank you so much. That's really helpful. Very out of my comfort zone here!! Going to try and book it now...
Do you have a rough idea of cost of transfers ? Also will there be any other add ons you know of? My friends on a very tight budget!
The prices are all on those links, you'll need to do some reading and decide on what your friend wants as they are all different prices, for example a taxi will be far more expensive than public transport.
Once you've got your flight, hotel and transfers (whichever you choose), that's pretty much it. Of course, food, drink, etc will all be extra but then you can spend as little or as much as you want and Prague is very reasonable for food, drink.
Make sure your luggage meets the airline requirements for hand luggage so you don't get stung on excess luggage or size requirements, and then that's pretty much it.
Again, thank you!
I have flights booked now but can't find hotel on Expedia!!!
Do you have a link?

The prices have gone up a bit, but if you book on Ebookers you can get a better deal.

Any ideas when these kind of flights would be up for a late June journey? Currently the best prices I am finding is around £650 with one stop. Over £1,000 direct but very happy with the way these flights worked.

I would say it's too early yet to get decent prices. I'd hold off until at least December/January.

For my two week trip (flying into Kyoto and out of Tokyo) I've found that I only need the JR Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass to cover our time in Kyoto with side trips to Kobe, Osaka, Kinosaki, Himeji then down to Hiroshima/ferry to Miyajima. I'll buy a seperate ticket from Hiroshima to Kanazawa and then for the alps I'm purchasing bus trips with the Nohi buses as the rail passes don't cover some of this area (my route is Kanazawa, Shirakawago, Takayama, Kamikochi and Kawaguchiko). I'll then get a bus from Kawaguchiko to Tokyo (Shinjunku).

As others have said, don't just presume you need a week or two week rail pass, particularly if you are flying into one airport and out of another. There are many exclusions on fastest trains and you may find they don't cover exactly your route.

I've been learning Japanese, so far my phrases are:
Hello
Gin & Tonic
Yes
Thank you
No
We lost

(not necessarily in that order)!
Peach and Jetstar are still cheaper.

The Radio 4 programme More or Less recently did an article on collectibles, antiques and inflation, and pointed out that today's going rate for a 1950's Hornby train set in mint condition is exactly the same as what it originally cost, when adjusted for inflation.

Yes! I listened to that very episode not so long ago.

I was so suckered in, in my teens in the 90s, into "limited edition" CDs from the likes of Blur, Radiohead etc. What was I thinking, £15 for a limited edition of 100,000..... Now worth 1p plus postage.

Nujol
"Ultra rare" - hmmm so ultra rare that they are being sold as a complete set massively under RRP.

The fact that four years on these are still being sold makes it pretty clear to me how rare they are.

Millions of these were made, OK a mint boxed set in 100 years will probably be worth a little more than the original cheap price, but please no-one think they will be on Antiques Roadshow!

Remember all those CD's we bought in the 90s thinking they would still be worth something now... And they are now 2 for a £1!

Very true. With economic growth and globalisation comes an increase in the size of consumer markets. I think there are very few things nowadays produced in such small quantities that they will be rare some day.

Everyone has caught on that keeping old tat might be a good investment. But it doesn't work when so many are produced and everyone is doing the same!

Multi nationals like Uber are competing unfairly with hard working taxi drivers by siphoning profits to tax havens and thus avoiding paying for the roads they use and the fair amount of tax every other taxi pays. Basically getting a subsidy from our government to destroy the livelihoods of thousands. The destruction of tax paying taxi drivers careers is not worth £3 lunch in Tesco. People need to look around them and care about the society they live in, not just for themselves, but for the next generation who will live in a bankrupt economy or an economy that favours the 1% - multi nationals over young people's life prospects.
To be fair this problem of multi nationals crippling the small and medium sized businesses (back bone of the economy) is down to our government allowing the loopholes. But people need to speak up more https://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jun/18/uk-reject-eu-plans-combat-multinational-tax-avoidance
If you have a choice, which you do, make it a choice that benefits society
Uber drivers work hard and pay road tax. What do you think they would be doing if Uber didn't exist? If they could earn more elsewhere, they would. Anything that gives them a chance sounds like something that benefits society.
Those workers you talk of could be working for a taxi firm that does not incentivise competition for a wage to the bottom and the taxi rank pays the correct amount of tax like everyone else. taxi ranks do not siphon profits to tax havens and they support the infrastructure they use on a daily basis. That is what you call fair capitalism
No, that's what YOU call fair capitalism, I call it simple Luddite-ism. Traditional taxis were just a monopoly that needed breaking. We don't need drivers to train for years to get "the knowledge" any more. We have google maps. It's called progress.
How do you know where taxi drivers send their profits?! If Uber drivers could work for a firm that paid higher wages, I'm sure they would. Uber drivers provide a decent service for a fair price. Not sure why you think you should be the moral arbiter.
So you think small and medium sized businesses should pay tax and multinationals deserve to be subsidised and pay very little at the expense of the tax payers. Taxi ranks are not monopolies. It's companies like this that will destroy the economy
No, I think all companies should pay tax fairly. It's up to the government to make that happen. If they fail to do that, you can hardly blame people for taking advantage of the loopholes. I certainly wouldn't voluntarily pay more tax than I had to.
Your anger should be directed at the government, not entrepreneurs who take advantage of the government's mistakes or those who work for them, or their customers.
Completely agree with you that we are losing billions in tax revenues because of the greed and negligence from this government. It's important people speak up about the injustices of capitalist system
We aren't "losing millions" - we never had or were entitled to that money. And if it is a problem, it's not a problem with capitalism - it's a problem with rubbish lawmakers.
We are losing billions, not millions to profits being siphoned off to tax havens. Capitalism is part and parcel of many factors, including government non intervention. Austerity is only something that was brought in because of so called debt, so yes it is our money as tax pays for all our public services, and if the NHS is being short changed because there is not enough money in the pot, it's because our government is negligent enough to allow multi nationals to get off with tax, while small and medium sized businesses have to compete on this unfair playing ground where they are down by 20% competitiveness (as they have to pay tax) , before they start trading. It's wrong and is not how capitalism and tax is supposed to work.
"so called debt" oO
Yes austerity is ideological and most economists argue that austerity creates more debt for a country. The only way out of debt is to invest and the proof is in the pudding. Austerity has failed to reduce the country's debt. We are in a deeper hole than when Austerity started.

Gordon Brown must have really fallen on hard times to be browsing HUKD ;) I'm in the Civil Service. If you knew how much money was wasted, you'd realise the problem is not too little borrowing, the problem is too much spending.
Code "LDNEATS" is working, however :-)

Highly recommend Chiltern Railways for passengers travelling from Birmingham and West Midlands to London, and also London Midland, can get some brilliant priced fares with both operators...
Everyone always thinks of Virgin Trains and their fares are usually far higher, unless you get a bargain advance fare.
Yes granted, train journey times are a little longer, but the savings on tickets can be worth it. Walk on fares are also substantially cheaper.

The image above seems to say this offer is a family travelcard. So being a travelcard would include unlimited onward travel from Marylebone on all rail and bus services in zone 1-6. It would also get you a 1/3 discount on the river boat services.

This makes the ticket much better value than any of the advance tickets mentioned above, and also the non restrictive nature of the return journey would be attractive.

PS voted cold because of "be gentle- it's my first post"

Yep - spot on: "... And once you’re there, you can make unlimited journeys on London’s buses and tubes too! ..."

As usual you can get cheaper advance single tickets for a specific train time. I was in London a few weeks ago and the two single journeys were about £15.

Don't forget you also can have the london 2-4-1 days out if you pick up a leaflet at marylebone. You can also try a ticket split website as occasionally breaking up a trip to more single tickets and bring this down too.

What happens if you get picked-out in an ID parade? :{
Viper FAQ
A. If a volunteer is picked out then the parade is simply recorded as a “negative identification” as the witness has failed to identify the suspect.
An identification parade will only take place if a suspect has had their image recorded as they are believed to have committed an offence. The aim of the witness viewing a parade is to state whether they recognise the suspect or not. If the witness is unable to recognise the suspect or selects a volunteer image instead then this simply means the suspect could not be recognised.

So if I volunteer I'm then free to commit crimes :D

Does anyone know, if you already have purchased tickets to a park, can you upgrade on the day minus the cost of park tickets to an annual pass?
Yes, you can. This also works out as a good deal, especially if you've entered the park on a 2for1 deal, as they take off the full price of the ticket without checking (most of the time).

So what is the process and what happens if it isn't 'Most of the time'? Do you know how they check what ticket you had if you gave it in at the turnstiles, or do you buy the passes at the entrance? Thanks

this santander cycle service seems scam to me. there is a part mistake from my side too. took 3 bikes thinking 2 quid for 24 hrs next day i was charged 24 extra. 2 is just for taking bike out and cost 2 per hr after 30 min. we used it for 3 hrs. not impressed with this service though.
how is that a scam when you couldn't follow the instructions?

Love love love Melbourne .. Well Richmond !!
There's and "expire" button under the deal/first post but if the offer is still available I wouldn't expire it.

It's a seriously good deal (but personally I'd do the break in Bali on the way back). I nearly booked it myself hence I mentioned it, but with two Oz trips already booked I decided to just to book a return to Bali for £410 instead and save £180...

Garuda is a 5-star airline, their safety record may not be that great (mainly due to domestic maintenance and weather) but the international/long-haul flights are generally to a similar standard as other "bigger" brands - makes you wonder what Emirates safety record will be next year?!.

So you haven't really booked it yet, just testing to see if it got hot or not.. Why not ask for advice?

My guess is you'll be extremely lucky if Etihad have flights to Australia in their summer for £450..Air China may release some for £560ish but anything under £500 (for Jan-Mar, East of Perth) is a bargain..

I've two trips to Oz booked for 2016 (one with Qatar and Emirates/Qantas the other Garuda and Jetstar) and just took advantage of the Thai Airways offer to New Zealand for February..

The Thai Airways one to NZ is ridiculously cheap. How do I expire this one? The Etihad one is going live soon I think.

might hold off on this one. My dad called today and said there'll be an offer for around £450 return pp direct with Etihad for flights in mid-late Jan so I'll post that here when it comes on.

If you've always wanted to visit then it sounds like you've had plenty of time to research. There are people who dream and people that do. Don't be a dreamer. Its a beautiful place with lots to do.
So where did you venture in Nepal? I'm a dreamer and I've travelled all over Nepal.
Then your not a dreamer and someone that acts on what they want to do in life instead of wishing they could.
I did the usual Everest base camp,Kala Patthar, Chitwan, Pokhara, and Kathmandu .
and also birth place of lord buddha "Lumbini", annapurna base camp (abc) best for trekking.
I think the annapurna circuit is probably best for trekking as the ABC is a line walk, there and back again. The 21 day Everest trek is next on the agenda for Nepal and me. Brilliant, beautiful place.

Great price but this is standard for florida with Thomson. Its not cheap because of Zika and your nearly 300 miles away in anycase. Tend to go each year always book last minute and love September /October time. Perfect time after peak, still hot but bearable, not busy, short queues, good sales at outlets, Halloween horror, Disney food and wine festival... Could go on. I'm booking soon :-)

No prizes for guessing why Florida's so cheap.
Still, shockingly good bargain.
why is it so cheap?

For those dates - mainly cos it's term time.
MrFlux001
Somewhere to avoid if you either plan on or are planning on serving your purpose in life.

Trust me I'd rather be in Florida compared to Somalia or Pakistan, two worst places on the planet by far.

Great price, poor airline.
Are they worse than Thomas Cook, have never flown with Thomson? Worst airline with the rudest and most unorganised, unhelpful staff I've ever experienced and I've flown A LOT..
Typical bucket and spade airline. Don't be fooled by the marketing of the 'Dreamliner Experience'. It's just another tube and cattle class is just like any other. Food is very average, drinks are free, but they're not too keen on willingly serving them and seem to frown upon people asking for them at the rear of the aircraft and are excessively keen in drawing the curtains to the galley so pax are put off asking.
Total nonsense. I've done 4 return trips to Orlando on Thomson Dreamliners and to compared to the Virgin, TC or BA Florida flights they have: more legroom, more headroom, far bigger personal locker space, better IFE, quieter travel and actual fresh air to breathe rather than the toxic variety that has passed through the engines of all the older planes.
If you're only concerned about airline food (which is pretty universally rank) and free drinks then you're well suited to any cattle class flights given your level of discernment.
Calm down Victor, you're post is akin to your OTT assessment of Thomson. Take a chill pill before you have a coronary!
Having flown both B788/9 with VIR and TOM in both cattle and premium there is only one comparison that can be made and that is VIR are Team GB and Gold Medal, whereas TOM are languishing a long way down the league.
The TOM fleet maybe newer than the fleets of other operators from LGW, but that doesn't disguise the fact that the service is very poor, very typically bucket and spade, nowhere near that of a full service scheduled airline and it shows.
Calm down yourself Mr Cattleman. If you read the reviews on the various Florida forums of flying on the Virgin geriatric 747s you'd realise Virgin are closer to Team Austria than Team GB.
