Post Finasteride Syndrome is a true horror story. It is effectively untreatable and irreversible too. Doesn't affect very many users, but as the trigger isn't known, it's really Russian roulette.

Actually, there is some evidence that ketoconazole is effective in … Actually, there is some evidence that ketoconazole is effective in combatting hair loss. Try serarching pupmed for yourself and make your own conclusions from that. Ketoconazone is thought to work through local anti-DHT properties. Here's one paperA link to more papers HEREAlso, try searching alopecia (androgenic) as well

In 20+ years of research I've never seen concrete evidence that it's worked significantly for anyone. Even anecdotal evidence is scarce, and that's impossible to trust anyway.

If you want to slow down hair loss then Minoxidil and Finasteride work, but possibly at a cost to your health eventually.

What does this shampoo actually do in addition to washing your hair?

Nothing!

Don't use it late at night, you won't be able to sleep.
Not only this shampoo doesn't do anything; there's also no science behind it. The only substances that have a mild anti-androgenic effect on the scalp are ketoconazole (Nizoral) and Piroctone Olamine (various, but the cheapest is Body Shop Ginger shampoo).

According to a study in the Journal of the American Academy of … According to a study in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, men with high levels of testosterone are more likely to have vertex baldness. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is made from testosterone by an enzyme called 5a reductase. It can also be made from DHEA, a hormone more common in women. DHT is found in skin, hair follicles, and in the prostate. The actions of DHT and the sensitivity of hair follicles to DHT is what causes hair loss. The AR gene makes the receptor on hair follicles that interacts with testosterone and DHT. If your receptors are particularly sensitive, they are more easily triggered by even small amounts of DHT, and hair loss occurs more easily as a result.

In vitro studies have no bearing whatsoever on reality. Also the test you cite is in conjunction with male hormones? Never alone. Testosterone in the right quantities can make the Russian women's wrestling team grow beards so will probably skew the result somewhat, it can also cause hair loss.

Hair is dead, it will not absorb the caffeine at all. The root "may" but that is also hotly debated and even if it does the benefits are strongly contested. Male pattern baldness is almost always a genetic condition and is still not fully understood, the idea that a quick rinse with a cuppa around you lug holes will change the world of hair loss is frankly crazy. Alpecin - German engineering for you hair without a single quantitative independent verified claim to back it....like I said very clever marketing.

On the plus side the reviews are generally positive but that's entirely unscientific and probably largely psychosomatic. As an imminently balding man I can tell you, its very easy to want to believe £10 shampoo will help - except in reality it probably won't.

bought 3 bottles on other offer a while ago, used it for months and couldn't see any effects. plus it's not very good as a shampoo either.
They had to withdraw claims it helped baldness due to lack of proper scientific findings. Doubt their own study could be replicated to show their findings.

there are 3 products which have been medically proven to prevent some hairloss

minoxidil (regaine)
finasteride (propecia)
ketoconazole (nizoral)

finasteride is the most successful - however also has the most potential side effects (should probably not be taken by someone who is planning to have children etc)

see this wiki link for details

alpecin may be helpful for someone who is also taking propecia
