I bought the disc version on release, the disc does uncompact just over 5gb of data which did save some download time on my 2mb small village broadband connection, but I imagine the data on the disc will of been updated online many times by now
not a bad price with case, disk is pointless tho, needs steam to download and play

Unfortunately as newer triple A games come out, putting a game on a standard disc will be useless as it can only store around 4.7GB. However, there will be a Steam code as you said.

You can get a five pack of dual layer Verbatim 6x delivered on eBay for £19.99, they are not the cheaper LTH type either.
I burn a lot of (true/uncompressed) bluray films - none of this compressed .mkv t0rrent crap.

I've bought 3 lots of these over time
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003M6AGWG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00

They come from Japan which takes a week or two but every disc has been reliable. I've never had any import duty to pay.

I use imgburn to burn the BDMV/Certificate folders (or .ISO for my 3D films). BUT - Never for the first burn because imgburn normally fails the format process so always use Nero 11 to do the first write which also formats (very quickly too) the disc. Failing the format process normally then renders the disc unrecognisable in bluray players no matter how many successful writes you put on it( Re-zeroing and erase/smart erase does not help). It will still be useful as a data disc in a pc though.

I don't know why you are posting a hot deal if you think the product is poor quality? Poor quality is not a bargain at any price.

Anyway, in the interests of suggesting a better deal, 5x BD-RE 25GB (125GB total) for £5.99 on Amazon.

Why do you say they fail after 10 or less rewrites?

Because I've used 5 of them before (at £13 each). They failed after nearly 10 writes and maplins replaced them. After 28 days I was told to go to Verbatim directly

Speculator
Paid £10 for 5 verbatim bdre double side 50gb shipped from Japan recently. Delivered within a week.

And after they fail you get a replacement of course, £2 is a bargain though!

That's cheap, where from?

It was from ebay but the seller I bought it from has closed their ebay shop.

Have a look, there are plenty of other sellers from Japan selling 5 for around £11 to £13. They are Verbatim but normally taken from a large spool and sent in paper disc protectors.

Just be aware of the customs duty limits. Most sellers will mark it as a gift.

I see that you are right, plus Screwfix's cheapest 7 inch diamond disc is a tile disc made by Erbauer which is in their clearance . . . .
Screwfix's reduced price of £5.49 is still more than 3 times more expensive than the Duratool listed above above at £1.66 here

Possibly the best RPG on 360.
Praise the Sun.

For those who already love this game can i suggest looking at some of the lore videos on youtube. The story may be rather vague in the game its but it is there, you have to piece it together yourself. Things certainly aren't as clear cut as I though t they were and not all those evil monsters are quite as evil as you think.

What sort of numbers are we talking about here? Even the poorest drives last for many years with average use.

Unless that lifespan has been reduced to a few GB per day for 3 years and a bit, I'd rather have superior performance for less money...;)
And the Crucial drive is slightly bigger.

Price fixing is the way I would describe it.
The bottom has dropped out of the DVD writer market and I honestly think the manufacturers are AT it.
The price of the Blu Ray disc 25 Gig single layers have dropped right down.
The comment I made earlier about 2 in 400 faulty was down to die blemished on the discs not write failures.
We do a daily backup and that is why so many. We now write to the CMC ones at 6x with a verification cycle.
To do the error checks I think you need the Samsung drives because we get not allowed trying with a Pioneer S09.
Robert_Mugabe

The Blu Ray writers are being kept expensive by the manufacturers.

do you know the reason for this?

id quite like to use blu rays as another form of back up for my family photos but cant quite justify the cost yet!

Sorry, I completely missed your reply a week ago. Just to clear this up for anyone finding this in the future (I doubt anyone is *still* looking at it now), it seems like it uses Steamworks for authentication so that you *have* to activate it on Steam (even hard copies), but is still reliant on Games for Windows Live for profiles/game saves/achievements/multiplayer and whatever.

Does this sound right?

That being the case, when the GFWL service ends DoW 2 will stop working properly, though the single player will probably work with an offline GFWL profile... I guess.

Pretty much, yeah, once GFWL goes down I assume you can run the multiplayer through clients such as GameRanger, however, I'm not sure though. But yeah, hopefully Value and Microsoft sort something out there.

This uses GFWL as the OP said. But what happens when GFWL shuts down in a few months time?
It's a steamworks game, and therefore can still run via Steam :)

Last I saw it wasn't. Are you sure. I thought only DoW2: Retribution was Streamworks so far.

Yes, it is steamworks.

You're not convincing me. Just to be clear I'm talking about DoW 2. Even looking at the Steam forum, I see no evidence that the game has been converted to Steamworks. If you actually *have* the game and have played it without GFWL, that would be great, but just repeatedly saying that it is Steamworks does not make it so. I hope you're right and that the Steam page and forums are just a little out of date, but I need something more to go on.

Dear me, you insinuate I simply sit here and persistently state "STEEEMWURKS", if you had asked for evidence I'd have provided it.

was in the Cardiff store today. defo the dvd price in that store :(

Try Newport, when i passed there last week they had plenty in the window!
£19.99 for the dvd boxset is actually cheaper than all online firms I found. So if the OP had posted this as a DVD offer it would not of been bad. Amazon charge around £24.50. Zavvi £22 or so. Sainsburys and Tesco a lot more. Play from £23.07.

For Bluray boxset £24.99 seems to be cheapest price for now.

Is this deal worth 578 heat? I suspect the blu ray in title made the deal hotter than it is.
I am looking to buy this set on DVD not blu ray. Is this a good price for the DVD set? or does anyone know if its cheaper elsewhere? Thanks

You don't need the power disks they add extras to the toy box but I wouldn't call them essential.

you also don't really need any extra figures either, unless you want to play two player everything you need is in the starter pack.

If you do get add on's the best add on is cars one it's like a completely new game.

Thanks for info :D

Couldn't agree more with the Deathstar comment. Bought 2 on separate occasions about 3-4 years ago and they both died in less than a year. Save your money for a better drive, your data deserves the love.

I also purchased 2 on separate occasions and both died after little use.

Never again would I buy a Hitachi Deskstar.

I've got LOTS of Deskstars in a SuperMicro Super Server running 24/7, 5K3000's and only one was bad (Toshiba badged) which was DOA. No issues whatsoever, were both from the same supplier or batch? Could have just been unlucky.
I find them the most reliable drives with the original (non Seagate) Samsung coming in 2nd.

I have three of these which I purchased in 2007 IIRC - two of which have had almost 24/7 use for 5 of those years.

I am happy and would buy some again if I needed any smaller drives. Shame no use info as I would not be that happy about buying a drive which MIGHT have over 50k hours on it that were not me and may not have been treated as well as I try to treat my drives.

Now for some reason I was the EXACT opposite to your case. I bought a pack of 25 verbs and you had to burn the game twice to get it to work. Switched to Aones and worked first time. Can't fault them.

Pay the money and have a RSG done or do it yourself no more disks no more aggro of none working games and now spending time burning discs no constantly flashing FW's and opening your consoles and no wear to your drives.

Could you explain what RSG is. I googled and found nothing!

If I remember rightly, it's the Reset Glitch Hack. It allows you to run unsigned code on your Xbox 360 so you can use emulators and stuff. It also allows you to copy games straight to a hdd and play them without a disc.

It's similar to a JTAG.

Either that or i don't know what RSG is.

Thank you!

You can set google earth street view to 3D so you can view places in 3D too.

Or you can become a train spotter if you want to be slightly less of a nerd

Train spotting requires a lot more physical effort compared to just clicking an option with a mouse and putting on some 3D glasses. You may not like the '3D' effect but I don't see how that equates with only being suitable for nerds.

You can set google earth street view to 3D so you can view places in 3D too.

Or you can become a train spotter if you want to be slightly less of a nerd
Now you have the glasses you can download 3D movies that have been converted to anaglyph and watch those. Some work very well and of course work on all displays. Not forgetting some videogames also have anaglyph support too.

There are also 3D anaglyph videos on youtube.

You can set google earth street view to 3D so you can view places in 3D too.
Grabbed this a few weeks back. Great film and the kids loved it.
cyvi937
There's no such thing as a 3D DVD.

Yes there is. It's the old green/red glasses type of 3D,

In fact, I bought this and watched it in 3D the other day. Some bits looked very good. Other bits didn't seem to work at all. All in all, definitely worth watching for a quid :)

Just out of interest, what writable drive model is everyone buying this for? There hasn't been a good offer on a drive on here in a while now.

These are *not* inkjet compatible. I shoved a handful in the A4 sheet feeder of my office printer and tried to print them.

BIG MISTAKE

The CD's don't bend enough to fit through the sheet feeder...bit of shredded plastic everywhere inside the machine. A few bits got inside the laserjet print head and melted. Unhappy colleagues. Told off by boss. Official police caution for throwing coffee over boss.

:(

I am sure this will turn into a blond joke, some day.

Better of buying the actual proper Blu Rays when it comes to them prices at £60 for them 50 GB ones :p
Where do you recommend for them

Yes they definitely are inkjet printable!!. Just got one more last week (my 2nd tub) and prints beautifully on both my cannon and epson.
Also looking at the reviews (on amazon) 26 total reviews; vast majority (90% positive) and off course always that one or 2 mourners.

Also no one complained about the inkjet printing.

Darn i am so tempted.
Glad to hear the monitoring software is good.

I think i will play catch one the last few left in stock and see if I just can get it before it goes out of stock.
At least then i tried to resist :)
Update 3:

The swap from previous drive to this one was painless.

Plug in this drive using included cables.
Boot up
Install intel migration software
Select source
Destination selected (it only works with intel SSD so preselected it)
Asks to reboot
Migration software (acronis based as says so lol) loads
7mins later entire source drive copied. (Well it was a crucial m4 so SSD to SSD lol)
Reboot and intel SSD was in charge.

Total time was just over 10mins

Wish I could say the same for using the crucial in the n54l. used clonezilla but as the source was a 250gb drive hdd despite the total partition usage being 100mb system reserved and 50gb OS paritition clonezilla wouldn't do a disk copy so had to do it partition by partition. Total time well over an hour what with the hdd to sdd transfer being slower too lol

All in all I would highly recommend this as the intel monitoring software mentioned above is really good too allowing a seamless update of the firmware and optimisation of the drive.
Just to say quidco tracked my order online, pay and collect in store at £3.80 which matches 4% of total price.
Njay
Still tempted as Novatech is 1/2mile away from work lol

hmm, going through quidco and the potential for some cashback seem to have tipped the balance as I've hit the buy button. Oops, oh well lol

Nice DISKount! ;)

It's only a 'disk' in 'American English'. None of that around here please! :p

Disk is short for diskette. Nothing American about it.

While you are absolutely correct regarding it being a shortened version of 'diskette', disk has often been the preferred American spelling of the word.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spelling_of_disc

Well that certainly clears it right up!

I had no idea the history of the word! Seems to have changed hands a number of times over the centuries. Whilst anything flat and circular is clearly a disc, I don't think I'll ever get my head round an information carrying device that contains a circular element being anything other than a disk(ette). 5 1/4" and 3 1/2" 'floppy' disks and HDDs are square, not round so it seems proper not to call them discs unless you're referring to the circular bit inside.

Optical media is not square and is unarguably a disc of the circular variety.

Really worried about the reviews on Amazon, especially seeing as the Chinese ones seem to be noted as less reliable. What software did you all use to check sectors and all that? Are they ready-formatted and good to go from the box?

Well I wouldn't worry, it has a 2 year warranty; if it dosen't show signs of failing within this amount of time, it's probably a good disk!

I used this; http://www.hdtune.com/ , it's under the error scan tab... I only did a quick surface scan, but if you really want to be sure, go for the deep scan; it'll take long though! If you look at the smart data, don't freak out over the 2 yellow fields, that's normal; basically there are better smart tools out there!

...and no, these drives, as with most new drive, come unformatted; you'll need to follow this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFDmxRWBr4E it's the whole process of fitting a new drive, the formatting part is about 4 minutes in. Note this is only if you're planning on using it as a second storage drive... if you're making it the OS boot drive, just install it and boot from you OS DVD/USB.
Really worried about the reviews on Amazon, especially seeing as the Chinese ones seem to be noted as less reliable. What software did you all use to check sectors and all that? Are they ready-formatted and good to go from the box?

There is a difference between part numbers, I would advise you to carefully check that your drive is one of those listed; hopefully it'll just fail if it's not suitable!? Mine isn't a 9YNxxx, it's the newer 1CH164... I was reading into it, and it appears this newer one is the first in the line to support APM; somthing to do with it being patented or some such;

http://disablehddapm.blogspot.co.uk/
https://sites.google.com/site/disablehddapm/

these two links were provided by a user explaining the effects of APM on the 1CH164 varient. Hopefully Seagate will provide a F/W to solve this issue with the 1CH164.
Can't say I've heard anything, then again I don't listen to it intently.

Apparently there is a firmware update if it bothers you, CC4H.

latest drivers from nvidia sorted all my issues ^_^
K1LLER HORNET
Looks like AMD are going to take the PC gaming crown? Especially with all these big devs jumping ship to the red side.
If so, my next card will start with a 7 (or 8 :p).

Not really but it would be nice if nvidia had some competition wouldn't it? Problem here was that final code wasn't given to nvidia until the game was almost out and so (unusually) no driver was ready in time and nixies havent done the work on their side either. It says something that this stands out as an unusual case.

Crash fest on my system still waiting for fixes so someday I can play it. Good price though
I've got a GTX650 and it works as long as you turn off Tesselation and TressFX in the graphics options.. It looks worse.. but still good. Plays fine then.

Thanks OP missed out last time. Same situation in that I wasn't sure which to buy- don't think I would use 1tb but value for money would've made me go for that one, however there is only 500gb in stock in my local Currys and PC World so I will go for that one.

Are they better than the earphones supplied with the IPhone / iPod touch ?

Probably not. The Apple earbuds as far as earphones go are OK. The problem is all earphones are awful as the design means they can't deliver the bass or volume correctly. Which is why people complain that their 100db iPod can't go loud enough when in reality they are doing great damage to their hearing. You are better off with in ear monitors or a reasonable pair of headphones. In ear monitors are better on the go as they usually filter our more noise and leak less noise meaning you can turn the player down, and get a much better sound.

I haven't heard these headphones but I imagine they will have similar problems to the iPod earphones sound leakage, poor sound delivery etc. You are better off with JVC Marshmallow in ear phones, or some of the cheaper Koss on ear phones if you don't like in ear monitors. It all depends on your budget though, if you are happy with the iPod earphones stick with them.

Seriously? You think that Apple earphones can be better than £30 headphones?

Here are some customer reviews, mostly 1-2 stars: http://store.apple.com/uk/reviews/MB770G/B

Those headphones are usually rated 4-5 stars and I believe that sound quality will be 100 times better than Apple headphones considering they were only £4.99. No offence that my personal opinion as wouldnt rate Apple headphones more than 1 star and I cant believe that something can give worse sound quality.
