I got 4 from Worcester for £1 each, also 4 mini chicken fillets for £1 each
most likely national deal. spotted them in hull as well.
Great deal, would have loved to have stocked up as I go through a lot of chicken...

Freezer's full , absolutely gutted!

I'm gonna allow this as its thigh not breast - only mentioned in the small print like all of Asda's tricks..
I'll get my coat..
What??? It's in great big writing on the box CHICKEN DRUMSTICKS

Indeed you are right. There have been other products which look different on the packaging to what's inside eg the curries. And they don't state on the main big what type of meat they use.

It's only after you eat it and check the ingredients you realise you've been had..

I alwats check the country of origin. Can't imagine Chickens raised in China / Vietnam are treat well.

They aren't treated well in the UK either. Unless you raise the bird yourself, love & care for it & then one day sneak up behind it, drug it and then chop its head off - expect cruelty. These poor birds are treated like garbage.

1kg of chicken legs for £1.39 I wonder how well the chickens are treated with these margins. cheap is not always value for money.
Chicken legs are almost a waste product. For some reason I don't understand, most people prefer chicken breast. So large numbers of chickens are processed just for their breast meat and they need to get rid of the legs. Then the price just depends on how much effort they need to go through to get them on the shelves, as against sending them straight to a biomass composter.
Aye, I feel the same but for me breast is by far the worst part of the chicken. In chicken shops I always ask for no drumsticks and no breast. Thighs and wings for me. You can get chicken portions in Asda and other places for £1.69 that are a mixture of thighs and drumsticks.

If they aren't drumsticks, then what are they? Synthetic bone with some kind reconstituted meat added to them? Surely it's cheaper to just use actual chicken drumsticks?

Voted HOT. However ,I would never buy drumsticks as I consider them dog food. Chicken thighs are the way forward(no pun intended). :)
Yes, yes yes! When I go into the old dirty chicken shop I always say no drumsticks when I get the family bucket for 6, which maybe might just be me doing different voices.

Chicken breast is the worst. It's alright for curries n stuff and escalopes but other than that - rubbbb-ish! It's by far the worst bit on a roast chicken.

Wow, I think I might be drunk.

I know this is probably a pointless posting as this thread is over a week old, but I found the BBC News article about how one of the biggest UK poultry plants is aiming to tackle Campylobacter. It's a very interesting read, and video, for anyone interested in food production and safety.

Aldi were in one of the worst in tests for bacteria in chicken products.
Is that just a misunderstanding on your part, or a downright lie? Because it is simply untrue - check out the facts and you'll find that Aldi was too small a sample to test fully. Asda was the big problem.

Citation needed.

I think Asda was the worst followed by either tesco or Sainsburys iirc. You couldn't make your conclusion from the available evidence ;). Plus these are frozen as opposed to fresh. They all did relatively terrible though. Good job everyone practices basic food safety and cooks their food properly.

Aldi were in one of the worst in tests for bacteria in chicken products.

You don't flesh out your comment with any details but what you have got to realise is that there are a lot of chicken suppliers, with a lot of even smaller sub-contractors supplying them. Obviously some producers and processors are going to have better hygiene than others, but the supply chains to supermarkets chop and change month on month. So chickens in one supermarket may well be dirty one week and clean the next - and the week after dirty again. The quality of the hygiene in a processing factory may even vary shift to shift depending on the quality of the staff and supervision working at the time. So any chicken from any outlet may be contaminated with nasty bugs, such as campylobacter, no matter how much you pay for it.

The only way to be safe is to carry out proper kitchen hygiene to ensure other foods are not contaminated and that chicken is properly cooked.

That said I do think there could be efforts made by government to maybe introduce maximum limits for contamination and fine companies if they failed the standards. That would give the industry the good kick up the backside that it clearly needs to improve safety across the board. Can't see it happening though because it would be "Big Government" and Dave doesn't like to introduce anything that might hit the profits of his pals in big business. I expect a hot air "robust industry led initiative" will be the order of the day and so nothing at all will change and people will keep getting very ill and sadly some dying.

Edit: Well blow me down, days after writing my comment I saw a report, on I think BBC news, about one of the largest chicken processing plants in the UK, near Hereford I think they said. Anyway they had the boss of the plant saying how they are spending a huge amount of money on novel new hygiene and processing techniques to reduce campylobacter. So hopefully this will be mirrored across the industry and chicken will become safer - hurray!

Save your money and put it towards a Roland Kit. These are terrible IMHO.
The only way I'd consider these is if a toddler wanted to start off playing the drums so you don't waste a huge amount of cash.
You quite right in the sense that Roland make the best electric drum kits, (bought a TD-8 many years ago new when they were released (about 12 years ago now) and it has been upgraded many times, but the main pads and Cymbals are the same and going strong. Never had anything break or fail, still the same skins even) but they are out of alot of people price range. I think if you want to try something out then the Alesis kit is a good option, then upgrade to a td-11 or td-25 later.

Fair point TheMev but I'd still rather have the £150 go toward a 2nd hand Roland.

Must have missed that particular barbecue course at my local college!
had a BBQ last night with two of these packs, was all fresh butchers meat and tasted delicious. remember these packs are made up by mixing a selection of stuff you can buy individually for a lot more money. I would suspect these are so cheap to get you through the door, then spend another £40 on beers and other BBQ related things, like I did.

oh, it does say to precook everything in this pack in the oven, I'd defo do this for the chicken, but a real BBQer does not precook his (or hers) burgers and sausages!
In case anyone wonders. Yes, and they got a delivery this morning but all sold out.

This website is for a farm in the USA. Given that it's says the chicken is British I would say that this is the wrong website for the supplier of this chicken. I've had these before and I would say they are more than likely injected with water and were also quite rubbery and very fatty compared to other supermarkets
I would suggest you have not had these before as you have never had a positive comment to make about any food from lidl/ aldi, generally only negative comments. Therefore you must be some sort of masochist to keep subjecting yourself to the pain of eating from aldi/lidl. Perhaps you feel you are doing a public service? Or,maybe you have some other agenda.

I have found with meat products and anything that will be popular, you have to get in early on a Saturday. On a Sunday they have little or none of such products.
Sometimes my Lidl will have leaflets for the following weeks/weekend offers but not very often. The weekend offers vary according to your location so Scotland will be different to say Birmingham' offers etc. Yes I agree get there early for the meat offers as they go super quick. I tend to pop in @ 8 before I hit the gym & there is always a cue of people waiting outside for the doors to open and it's amusing how they run for the Meat... :)

That sounds fun! Reminds me of the January sales or Black Friday!
Fun when you're not being pushed! I've had a few choice words with some for not being patient & trying to climb all over me to get to the Meat. I mean it takes literally a few seconds to pick up a few packs or indeed your limit of 6 but some greedy buggers insist on wanting it all lol... :{

aldi £1.99 for 800grams i believe

No as usual someone has made out that Aldi is cheaper when it not, seems to be very common lately. Aldi is £1.99 for 750g which is £2.65 per kg which is more expensive.

To make this clear it's cheaper at morrisons.

How do they afford to sell it that cheap, is the farmer getting like 10p? Heat added anyway.

chickens like any other bird people pay money for, the main price is the breasts, since all chickens come with some, the farmer gets paid more, than the costs just spread out over the other cuts

same with sirloin steak vs cheap mince, just cost the mince meat is cheaper doesnt mean the farmer gets next to nothing, for he seller the whole cow

and ofc the supermarket hopes your will buy more will in store than just what you when in for, witch you might not but some one else will

googled junk out of bored, and ofc one chicken yields more than 2 drumsticks *upper and lower cut both legs* as it does 2 breasts, so if you find a chicken cut chart and see what amount of cuts comes from one i whoule say farmers make atless £1 each chicken

"Reference: Erin Cram, Grad student, Molecular and Cellular Biology, University of CA, Berkeley

A chicken has one anatomical breast. Not only do we eat them split, we buy them that way. When our eyes detect two pieces, it's an easy leap to human anatomy and to conclude that a package of 4 chicken breast pieces contains 4 chicken breasts (which are really 2 cut in half). So common is this confusion that the mistaken amount is now accepted usage in retail chicken dialect. That's why the recipes here have shelved the clumsy "2 chicken breast halves" and opted for "2 chicken breasts." When a whole breast is requested the term is "1 whole chicken breast, unsplit."

thats alright the chicken wants its life back too (_;)

These have been a £1 for at least the last few months. I get them occasionally but they are often so tiny they aren't worth £1
kdatta333
is it a deal? I remember seeing this for ages in sainsbury.

Good point, it's not marked with 'offer' on the website, like all the other offers are. It's £2.38 / kg. Asda do a combo pack of legs and thighs that are £1.51 / kg (closest I can find, they don't do a value range of just drumsticks as far as I can see), and Tesco's drumsticks are £2.65 / kg, as are Aldi. Can't find Lidl price online but they are usually quite good for things like this. Not sure I'd go out of my way to go to Sainsbury's for this. In fact I'd be thinking of going to Asda for their drumsticks / thighs combo at £1.51 /kg!

Only have to sort out the deskinning bit.

Sounds like a perfect way to spread the bacteria. You really want to handle the meat as little as possible.
Not if you're sensible with cleaning stuff and the cooking will kill the bacteria anyway.it's not like you're going to serve half cookedchicken in the soup since it's often slow cooked for hours

Great deal - chicken on the bone is perfect for some chicken herbal soup. Only have to sort out the deskinning bit.
Sounds disgusting.
Basic food safety always will apply regardless

Not always....

Problem with the company at the present moment is that they've decided to change the size of the hamper on people's basket if you ordered.

Mine arrived to today, saying it dispatched 2x hampers, but it has the contents of 1 Hamper originally.

Also, the food wasn't fresh and all expired in 3 days. wasn't cold either...
