some ppl just got a sense of superiority from ignorance, they never really lived in China this time and mocking at the quality of made in China regardless the price they paid, some of them probably living with benefit in UK.
China got lots of good quality stuffs including soya milk. Back to this deal Vitasoy milk was inspired in shanghai and also produced in CHINA at the first place! They only produced in Hong Kong while Japan attacked China last generation but back to produce in China after that till NOW! But honestly I don't think Chinese give a sh*t if you want their products or not.
Vitasoy is definitely produced in HK.
It's not, produced in Shenzhen and shanghai and usa! The old factory in tuenmen Hong Kong is no more producing but for company use!
Received my shipment today and surprise surprise, it's still product of Hong Kong.

Has anyone ever used netflights.com, they have the same Virgin flight 44 pounds cheaper per person.

I paid £385 for Orlando return Virgin flights departing 7th November when I booked in Jan. Very misleading from Virgin!
Not really, flights change price a ridiculous amount.
In any event though, these prices are nothing special. As others said, go through an agency. Picked a few NY dates at random and found them all £50 less through reputable agents. And £350 is about right for the time of year.
What agents do you mean? I always thought it would be cheaper directly?
Just whatever travel agent of the day happens to be giving the best price.

Rarely do I see direct being cheapest when I've used flight comparison sites. Only the budget airlines are cheapest direct.
Expensive! I paid £680 for 5 nights in NY in February which included transfers from airport with hotel 5 mins from Central Park and 10 mins from Times Square.

It looks like an old A340 out from LHR which means you don't get a flat bed. That's pretty poor for a long haul business class flight nowadays. Price is decent, not great.

Very true. Their economy doesn't even have IFE's. If you're after a "luxury trip" and money isn't an issue then don't book this, there are many other options out there. If you want a comfortable trip but not Y class , then this is for you.

Why do you prefer it to white?

Black phones matter!

processor is more efficient and I forgot to mention the battery is larger too so overall better battery performance on the s version
edit: then again, the cheapest mi5s I could find (in grey) is £335 which is much more than this cost and if it is worth the extra cash is up to you. I'm personally going to wait until the mi5s's price drops to about £300ish which may take a month or 2 :D
edit 2: the build quality is actually quite important to me as I will be using my next phone for a couple of years (until it pretty much dies). the mi5 has very poor quality and the back is a fingerprint magnet with it being glass and all so I would avoid it, initially I liked the mi5 over the mi5s too but the new design slowly grew on me.
I'll bite the bullet. Still I believe Mi is one of the best quality/price brands there is on the market. Probably more safer than this - http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/instrumental-galaxy-note-7-teardown-news/ as well

Edit: Just watched Jimmy rig everything, seems he tested the standard version of the Mi5. Hopefully ceramic will help. Impressed by the Mi Mix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CZj-l9MJmg !!

ceramic is more brittle than glass so when it comes to bending or falling it certainly won't help with cracks but it will help with scratches. as for the colour, there is a black bezel around the screen which is VERY visible on all the colours except for black. one trick to hide the bezels would be with a black wallpaper but this won't work when you're in an app. personally I prefer the black version too.

It's just a personal preference. Almost every phone, and other piece of tech I have bought, has been black.

Hopefully the black version will see a price drop soon, now that the mi5s is out.

Thanks for posting the deal anyway. I voted it 'hot'.

Exactly, people have to stop seeing it as an over payment :)

I try to avoid it if possible but it was £28 from the UK store so it's cost me less than £4 more upfront but I now have £12 HK credit sat on my account so it seemed like a no brainer.

Mine came with no chinese apps installed and immediately updated itself to Miui8 upon start up. I'm running an app called Novca Launcher on it so it looks and runs exactly as my old Nexus 5 did.

You can download the official Google now launcher so it's same as stock android?

- Pegasus (One stop) £202 @ Opodo via Kayak

Why don't you trust Omega? I've booked flights with them before and not had any problems
I do travel to Doha quite frequently because my girlfriend lives there so I know that flights from the UK to Qatar are not cheap. You could get cheaper flights with Oman Air or Gulf Air but you need to change at least once. And Pegasus have a worse reputation than Ryanair and they're often late or their flights get cancelled so I'd not use them.
I get it that it's a good price for a business class flight and you can collect a huge amount of Avios and tier points but you still need to get to Doha somehow.

Maybe we could start posting deals on flights from Dallas to Johannesburg or Vladivostok to Shangai.

Hey, is regular validation (3yr) of HKID or HK Passport a myth or fact?
Is fact I'm afraid, unless you reside in HK for 7 yrs.
Or unless born in HK,like me,then is OK.:)
What's the point in keeping a HK ID card if you don't even live there? Just use your passport when ever you go?
Seems like a waste of time and resources to just keep a HK ID card lol but I know so many people who do it when they live and work in the UK. Don't get why

My white and silver Redmi 3 Pro turned up yesterday and I'm blown away! Build quality is superb. Bought mine from seller Dreami on AliExpress, sealed with original Chinese ROM installed. Whacked Google Play Store and Nova Launcher on top and it's performing brilliantly :)

Phone came with a screen protector and case thrown in, along with a dual nano sim adapter. Seriously impressed.
Just ordered the Redmi 3 Pro with 3GB / 32GB storage for £106 odd. The Note 3 is the better device, but my fingers aren't big enough for phones over 5".

Hoping for 7.5% Quidco cashback as well :) Will sell on the Doogee Valencia 2 Pro which is great, except I have pressure marks on the screen now, and the processor isn't great.

I've got a charger that's 5v/1500amp, and it seems to take an age to charge...
Mine arrived today despite tracking stating it had just left China hours ago. Dont trust the tracking info on Aliexpress....

Happy with my purchase, everything seems to be fine with it.

They were £60 last year , £151 in person now or £171 ( plus cost of recorded delivery both ways) by post. They take 4 days eg take up on the Monday and ready to collect on the Thursday and that is not the express service .
Wow. £171 for a visa! I went to China for one day in March and hiked the wall at Mutianyu (stopover on the way to NZ). You can get in for nothing if you stay for less than 3 days. I was thinking about going back for a week or two but given the cost of a visa now I don't think I'll bother!
This is from Birmingham, is the price the same from London?

How long are the flights?

Cheers!

Don't forget to count the cost of the visa. For a British passport holder it's currently an eye-watering £171.
Where did you get that figure from? I got mine in the london chinese visa centre for £60... only took 4 days as well

Mine was around that figure too but I believe they put their prices up.

I wouldn't book with them ever again. I booked with their cheap fare to NZ - they have cancelled the flight and will only book me on flights for the same dates if i pay the difference (over £2000). So I'll have to book a flight with another airline to make the wedding. There are a total nightmare to deal with when things go wrong.

I think Qatar are living on a past reputation for service anyway. I have taken 4 long haul flights recently as one booking and each flight we encountered different levels of service from poor to adequate, some staff looked like they couldn't be bothered to serve you and even flicked the wine bottle top off and just stared at me.... Very wired indeed. Also some flights they gave out menus and others they didn't and one of those times there was only one choice on board so what's the point in handing a menu out. Anyway they have modern planes (just don't fly on airbus a330 or 787 dreamliner definitely no dreaming to be done on these as no leg space and long recline of seat in front. And tickets are generally pretty cheap with good ife so most won't care just don't expect emeriates or Singapore levels of service.
15 hours and for that reason I am out.
I've done the long stopover in Doha - it's hell.

3am, the business lounge is deserted... nobody for company but fluffy camels in the gift shop window and the occasional migrant labourer waxing the floors.

Personally, I've learned that acceptable flight times and minimal transfer times are worth every penny... but I guess this will work for someone. If possible, I'd break it up with a couple of nights in town. The gulf transfers are enough to ruin the rest of your holiday.

Good one but it is rather amusing to see Qatar Airways being referred to as a 5 Star airline :D
It is according to Skytrax:http://www.airlinequality.com/ratings/qatar-airways-rating/

I would say, Qatar Airways is the best out of the cheap/bargain airlines. These rankings can differ from one institution to another. Another one below shows Qatar Airways as the 11th best:

I'd say if you get a good flight, it's very hard to beat Turkish airlines. The trouble is, 50% of the time they are absolute ****....
Cracking time of the year to visit Hong Kong. Humidity should be dropping by then. One of my all time favourite places to live. :{

Great fare, and at least both legs are in the 9 abreast 787, which is not quite as bad as the 10 abreast 777. Almost tempted ......

Actually I thought the 777-300er had more leg space than the 787 and was alot more cramped.

I tried yesterday and it was working, today it isn't :(
Anyone managed to get it work? and anyone know the source of the code??
It was working fine for me yesterday and now I can't get it to work with the flights I was interested in or any other random ones I've put in to test it out.

I'm pretty confused and peeved off because I googled yesterday and the expiry date was listed as the 20th of May...?
Has the code expired? It was working when I tried it yesterday. :(

I haven't found any other flights anywhere near as cheap as this for the dates I am interested in.

Edit: typo.

Hey guys, got mine today - came with miui global 7.3 | stable 7.3.2.0

Firstly am i safe from the spyware/malware
Secondly am i better off getting cyanagenmod?

Thanks in advance

Download a spy warehouse scanner from the app store as a minimum. I advocate flashing a rom yourself to be 100% sure. But that does take time and effort.

Not used cm on this device but the miui rom is fine enough

Can any1 tell me how to enter download mode? thx
hi, there is a mode on the redmi note 3 pro called edl mode, once you enter that mode you will need to download the fastboot rom and the mi flash tool, then connect your phone to the pc, while connected to edl mode, and flash the rom using the mi flash tool.

You are wrong on visa costs you do it in person it is £66 and the £80 odd postal. I've checked my statement and that's how much I paid in person. You can see that it is 'fee detail' which you add up to get the the price in the first column not add these onto the price (if that makes sense).
That's not for express but standard.
When did you apply for that visa? According to https://www.visaforchina.org/LON_EN/upload/Attach/mrbj/289577.pdf it's currently £151.
For those applying with an Irish passport, it's £86.
Prices have gone up since the 11th January 2016, so it is £151.

Ah I see. Manchester visa centre need to update their prices then as that screenshot was from their site. Can't believe how much it has gone up!!

It was last year January so perhaps they have gone up - significantly! I can't open that link but the one I posted was from same website but the Manchester Visa for China website so perhaps the Manchester one hasn't been updated?

Either way, check if you are applying for a Visa as it may be expensive. If you live nr Manchester may be worth popping into the office there.

Cathay Pacific obviously much better as is British/HK owned.:)
Cathay Pacific is owned by:
41.97% - Swire Pacific, a Hong Kong company controlled by John Swire & Sons of the UK;
29.99% - Air China, the flag carrier of the PRC and controlled by the state;
2.98% - CITIC Pacific, a de facto investment arm of the PRC government;
25.05% - public shareholders.
Additionally, Cathay Pacific has a 20.13% interest in Air China.
Thanks for the info.
Since HK returned to PROC in 1997,it would come as no surprise to see PROC having a stake in the company.
The company was founded by the Swire family who went to HK during colonial times.:)

try taobao if you want to buy something on aliexpress. both taobao and aliexpress belong to the same boss, jack ma. so why buy from aliexpress if taobao is cheaper. you will need an agent to buy from taobao.
would this phone work on the 3 network??
Dont turn on child mode!
Is dealsmachine any good? I've been thinking of ordering a phone and noticed their doing a good price on the K3 Note.
Personally I'd go for the meizu mx4 pro which has more ram, better camera and NFC (for Google pay, it ever arrives in UK)

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/meizu-mx4-pro-4g-lte-5-5-inch-16gb-banggood-2k-qhd-lte-no-800mhz-16gb-storage-3gb-2372988

Only 10 quid more if you buy through the banggood app which gives you a 10% discount. There is both a CM13 release for it and an expected eventual flymeos lollipop upgrade.

Banggood are also amenable to quoting much lower prices than that paid on the customs form...(just say want price you want declared on PayPal note)

Can't fault Turkish Airlines. Gorgeous food on board. Lovely staff. Free hotel & tour of Istanbul included. Great price
Yes thy has one of the best catering company working for them for the food. Not a single complaint I have seen. They are usually more expensive then be.

Another lovely touch is the menu they show you before meals are served.
Turkish Airlines is great. Friendly staff, good food, new aircraft. Much better experience than BA or Virgin. I found it similar in comfort to the big name Middle Eastern ones but without the over the top and classless bling.

Did you use a vpn? Also enter a Hong Kong phone number and postcode.

Yea, used VyprVPN and postcode/number for some school I found on google

Alright to be honest I didn't actually buy it meself already have the game as disc im registered to 4 regions but not Hong Kong. India is meant to not be able to buy from maybe Hong Kong is the same. I did read in a thread just there now that the only way to get Hong Kong to work is to set it up through paypal not sure how that works though.

No SD card with only 32gb onboard the killer for me. send like a great phone though.
is there an sd card slot on the 16gb?
No SD card on ANY Redmi Note 3. Personally I'd go for the plastic Note 2 and stick one of those metal bumper cases on it. They cost less than £2. The Redmi Note 2 16GB (with SD card slot so probably not necessary to go with the 32GB version) costs just £82 herehttp://www.everbuying.net/product1120445.html

Originally I looked at this but after playing with the redmi note 2 for a while I wasn't keen on it anymore..
The MTK chip is annoying and the forum support for note 2 is really unorganised (ie seems like not many has this phone so therefore not many threads or users developing this).
All I'm trying to do is flash developer rom and put gapps on it :( taken 2-3 days so far of force closes and unexpected errors (I've used android and tinkered since android 1.5)...
They've sold almost 10 million of these, which I think is plenty. Also, putting a Rom on is easy, there's forums on Xda. Putting gapps on is very easy, type in google on the mi app store, click on second link (search on beidu) and it should come up. It will be in chinese but it doesn't matter. Install the app and press the blue button then install the gapps. easy
This is Chinese rom yes? I'm trying to avoid this because of malware etc.
Global doesn't have Mi store?
I use the miui stable rom. You can change the language of it after the initial set up which is what I did. I've been using it for almost 2 months now and have experienced no issues tbh. I just installed a custom recovery and then rooted my phone so I could uninstall/ freeze some bloatware but other than that its good. If you want the stock look, there's also an aosp rom so you can get the stock look.
Wouldn't the malware just take your details once you log onto the account? (ie sign in or up to Google etc?)
What Malware lol? There isn't any. Miui even has its own security software.

could have sworn I paid about 50 quid for an express 30 day visa in Calcutta this year?

Visa applications, like so many things, seem to be excessively expensive in the UK :(:(:(

It's often cheaper (and sometimes quicker) to apply for a visa from outside the UK

Examples for a single trip Chinese visa for a UK citizen...

1) apply in UK: visa £30 plus an application fee of £66 (standard) or £78 (express)
- cheapest option £96

2) apply in Turkey: visa £20 plus an application fee of £30 (standard) or £46 (express)
- cheapest option £50

3) apply in Netherlands: visa £24 plus an application fee of £39 (standard) or £53 (express)
- cheapest option £63

4) apply in India: visa £27 plus an application fee of £11 (standard) or £12.50 (express)
- cheapest option £38

5) apply in Hong Kong: visa £31 plus an application fee of nothing (standard) or £26 ("rush")
- cheapest option £31

Applications from Hong Kong - www.fmcoprc.gov.hk/eng/zgqz/bgfwxx/

There are official Chinese visa application service centres in:

United Kingdom - Manchester, London, Edinburgh

Belgium - Brussels
Canada - Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa
Denmark - Copenhagen
France - Paris, Marseille
Germany - Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich

The Tripadvisor link above gives good info. It seems that you'll need to stay in Beijing in a standard hotel that will validate the 72 hour visa usage. This might rule out staying with friends/relatives or using Airbnb.

Saw tickets for £475 MAN-HKG return yesterday in March. Such good value!
Ended up booking multi-city flights to Tokyo with stopover in HK too for just £588.
thanks....planning a trip there soon
best airline I've flown with including Emirates and Qatar
thanks
Took the MAN-HKG flight earlier this year, then on to HKT for same price. Easily the best flight to the Far East in 30 years of travelling there and HKG airport is superb for transfers.

Just how it should be really but it was completely free a couple day earlier in Hong Kong store though, IMO everybody who bought the season pass for AW showed more loyalty than pre-orders that can be cancelled so we all should have been able to get the beta for buying the previous season pass and I hope they change it next year whether or not I decide to buy the season pass.

Yeah you need to make your HK account a primary account on your PS4 somewhere in the settings look it up, then you'll 100% be able to use it on any other profile on the system mate.

Cheers mate.

1. 1st reaction, mainland Chinese airlines, avoid like plague
2. Possible delay if in transit in Beijing(military aircraft takes all priority , may not be entitled for any compensation, good luck if you are covered by travel insurance;)
3. Be aware of the customer service quality if you are Chinese(or Oriental) origin(Regardless of nationality), you may need to speak English to get the better service.
4. All in all, you get what you pay for.

You pay what you get. I wouldn't recommend to fly with them.
I certainly said that after my last trip. The hotdealer in me is trying hard to forget that experience. Probably worth spending the extra for a better service though.
So is it worth the extra £250 to fly with BA
Don't fly BA either absolutely crap both are the same. save the £250 and fly with these.
rubbish
Not Rubbish mate i travel all over and have been for the last 5 years i would say i fly at least 3-5 times a month and from my experience BA are Crap! don't know about anyone else but from personal experience i won't fly them again just check reviews online most people say they are rubbish! (but again depends on what route you fly) and if it has connections ect.
One of my examples with Ba was almost a 3 day delay offered me to fly Malaysian airlines flight which was a much cheaper flight with 2 stops my original flight was direct, they told me they always double book seats so a lot of the time they ask people to wait in a hotel for the next flight.(was told this by there staff) returned to catch my flight they kept my luggage stored asked 3 times is my luggage boarded got told 3 times "Yes its already on the plane,do not worry" arrive at destination NO Luggage. came 2 days later.

Prices are defiantly cheaper around that time of year. For £560 you can fly Business from Heathrow to Hong Kong business class with SAS.
where did you get a ticket for that price?
It was on the Google ITA website but is no longer available :(

We flew SAS this year open jaw Stockholm--Beijing-Copenhagen for £205. We spent time in Sweden/Lapland for Valentines day and got to see the Northern Lights and Copenhagen after. It was a great trip but yes the flight was very quiet and Beijing airport was near empty! I don't think SAS have the full lie flat seats in business. Their economy was pretty good too.
Hot! Easter holiday dates sounds good not too hot at that time in hk around 25c to 28c.

The £300ish fare was after taxes and charges.
Is the fare you see after tax and surcharges? Zuji usually shows the air fare only, i.e. excludes tax and surcharges.

From memory, when you need to log in to your account to amend flight/check in with Virgin, you have to type in your name as it appears on your booking. I.E. when it asked for your first name you type it in as it appears on their paperwork.
So as an example, your name: Peter David Smith. when you enter your first name(s) in the Virgin Box you enter 'peterdavid' and surname box 'smith'.
But to be honest, all the airlines I have flown with only care about your first and surname matching on ticket to passport.

I found I had to use my middle name but I added the space and it found my booking ok, but it is listed with no space on the virgin details.

benjai
Evilsatan
Has anyone else had their first and middle name joined on the booking? i.e. on the e-ticket (and on the Virgin website) it is printed Firstnamemiddlename Surname? I'm not sure if this is a problem or not...
I had this as well and thought it was a bit weird too. I've booked with Virgin directly in the past and checking the old tickets, it seems to drop our middle names. I'm not sure why expedia send middle names joined together to Virgin but I think it should be ok:http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g1-i10702-k4042674-Names_entered_on_air_ticket_without_a_space_between_1st_2nd-Air_Travel.html
And a slightly more reliable looking source: http://passportinfoguide.com/passport-and-middle-name-rules-for-travel/

Thanks :)
Seriously cheap for HK and as typical, after booking with Cathay for £425 which I thought was a big bargain. Anyway bookmared Zuji and expedia HK for future reference. Off I go this sunday 8)
