But i use a 1/1 full size gastronorm and find it annoying trying to peg all the bags to the side of the container and there is always dead space in the middle. Or if doing long cooks like whole pork shoulder, stews etc they tend to start floating after 6 hours or so. The vacuum method works better then. I do notice less moisture migration from meat when it was sous vide in vacuum as opposed to in the ziplock.Definitely not an essential piece of kit, but for me it gets used 50% of the time and does comes in handy. This one is really slim and i can stuff it into the cupboard easily. It also has a strong magnet strip in the base so you can stick it on the fridge etc

Cool, thanks. Good to know.
I'm only using a rice cooker with glass top. Like you say, the zip locks sometimes get moisture and sometimes the seal isn't perfect. I normally put the zip part above water and trap it with the glass lid.
If I'm cooking something which can float ill put a small plate inside to sink the meats.

Not used them. A tea towel or some foil should work fine over the pot and wrapped around the sous vide. Someone on Amazon cut a hole out of a plastic lid to accommodate their sous vide.
Aldi Seven Kings has at least one more left this afternoon. Although the box looked a bit tatty. I got the one from the display cabinet as the box was still sealed and in better condition. Don't know if there are any more out back. Marked as £29.99 on display but was £19.99 at the till.

Lidl have their vacuum bags 2 rolls in a larger sized pack or 3 smaller rolls in a pack. Can be used for Sous Vide cooking. Now £3.99 instead of £4.99 a pack.

This is cheap for a reason...

I know my how to cook sous vide, I have a bath as well.

You cannot have rust on the device that is supposed to be submerged, low quality steel...

so in the end, I couldn't resist the price of this. so I got it sent to my work address in Glasgow.

had chicken breast with a piri piri rub, and vacuum sealed. and it was delicious. this was last night.

I did some rump steak this evening and I loved it. it is definitely by far the best steak I have ever cooked. I don't have steak often, because I cant be bothered with the guess work that is involved with cooking it too perfection. I can defo say I will be eating it more, as this cooks perfectly. the only time I have had a steak that compared to it was the Argentinian restaurant I used to use when I was younger in Amsterdam.

Just let me get this right. The Aldi I looked in had the Aldi Sous Vide Wand reduced to £39.99. About 7 left. Quite a few of the boxes had been opened. A couple still had the seal sticker in place. A bit strange the stores are varying the price reduction. Maybe it depends on the manager as to the offered discount?

Lidl stores seem to just do their orange sticker with a standard 30% discount on stuff. The non food discounted items in the Aldi I visited were all different percentage discounts.

ziplock and water displacement is fine as long as the food is totally submerged, i wouldn't try the steak straight from the shops in its vacuum packaging as you dont know the quality of the seams and the labels will come off and gum will get into the wand. yes its simply a water heater/circulator but thats the point, it heats it up to an exact temp and maintains that. i just got one from aldi at £29 in its reduced section, well chuffed, only cooked a cpl of chops in it so far but they were sublime
