It’s a fabulous cruise. Good room, good ambience and a lovely ship!

Lexeus

Easier said than done when it’s a global problem. Equally if the Philippines looked after their citizens better then they probably wouldn’t be willing to work on the cruise ships for the low wages that most get. It’s all government, but that’s life. People only pollute at all because it’s the easiest route.... nothing is perfect

rabb5it

In that case government legislation needs to be changed fast in order to deter the economies of these dinasaurs.

Lexeus

The real problem is that cruises are only so appealing because hotels on land are taxed so much more and therefore there is a standard that can be offered on a largely tax free cruise ship at a much lower price than a land based hotel. It's a great example of how government legislation influence way of life in a dramatic way....

rabb5it

I can't imagine why anyone would want a holiday in a ship that looks like a floating battery-hen barn. To be confined in this vessel with over 4,000 other passengers is my idea of hell. I always said cruises are bad for your health, they are definitely bad for the environment. The Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) has announced their 2011 “Dinosaur of the Year” award to the Cruise ship industry. NABU President Olaf Tschimpke claims cruise ships emit particle pollution equivalent to 5 million cars driving the same distance as the cruise ship travels. For all would be cruise passengers.... find something better & less damaging to the environment to do. Cruises are from a bygone era. I just can't see the fun in paying loads of money to go on a cruise with 4,000 plus other people in the sea, just look what happens. What is commendable is the 70 year old guy with two hip replacements & a knee replacement who climbed Everest

Amsterdam (Netherlands) arrive 0800 depart 1430 With more bicycles than permanent residents, the Dutch capital is both charming and quirky. Aesthetically little has changed in the centre since its 17th century Golden Age. Beautiful gabled houses and merchants’ mansions line serene, tree-lined canals, which are laid out in five concentric circles and crossed by numerous bridges. The Royal Palace, originally built as a Town Hall in the 17th century, stands on a large square in the centre of the city. Considered one of Europe’s major art capitals, Amsterdam is home to a number of superb galleries and museums including the famous Rijksmuseum, the Anne Frank House and the Van Gogh Museum.

AS mentioned before - Been to Holland / Belgium CP's 13 times. Never been to a UK one - can't afford them!! I spend very little when i go. Whit half term usually OK for BBQ. Buy one of those 3 legged BBQ's for about a tenner, take my own charcoal . Deep freeze my meat and put in cooler box before leaving. Still OK on arrival next day. Take own beer ( Stella back to Belgium) and buty duty free wine on the ferry. Take most other groceries . The only thing i spend money on is Milk , Salad , and chips round the pool. Take your own bottle of ketchup into the pool and burger bars because the Belgians charge extra for it and its expensive for what it is. Use the cooler box to take your own beer and snacks into the dome / pool area (bet you can't do that in the UK!) I can honestly say that one year we went to Erperheide and spent 70 euros all week! Don't get me wrong , I am not a miser, Just like to know what i am eating (tr ybuting steak for the BBQ in a Belgian supermarket - I got a bit confused and thought it was really expensive) basicaly if you've got the space in the car, fill it! as long as its not perishable.

chopper603

Likewise, we've been to three Center Parcs in Germany (beware the one at Bostalsee, loads of steps to the accommodations!) and Zandvoort in Holland. Can't fault them, although we tended to go in October half term and it was a bit of a trek from the North East. (now kids older and we have a motorhome, so don't bother)

inspectorhector

Tried Efteling theme park in Feb half term and great fun. Holland tends to stagger its holidays across 3 regions so never too busy. Cheap flights can still be had from Manchester to Eindhoven (under £50pp return inc carry on bag) and Holland is relatively small with good free motorways so quick and easy to get to destination. Bear in mind that cost of living is similar and often more expensive than UK so budget accordingly.

Or Portsmouth instead of Brighton. But Rotterdam does have a very fine and animal centred zoo (as far as that is possible) and an amazing aquarium. The Cube Houses are also worth visiting. Apart from that though not a huge amount to do or see other than to shop at C&A just for old times' sake

Newbold

I have tried it - for several days. It's a large port city, but utterly lacking in the charm and history that Amsterdam possesses. It's fine in its own way, but it's no Amsterdam. Some interesting modern buildings, sure, but most of it's post-war drab.

I don't quite get why it's getting so hot. Yes it's cheap but you've got at very best 6 hours in Amsterdam to visit places. I have been there for about 6 hours during new years eve and we tried visit places but there's not much you can do around in that time unless you're going for red light district lol (lol) For a nice day with no rush ideally you'd want an overnight stay there

Shelby25

Stayed at this ‘hotel’ and decent enough rooms for the price. Rooms quite small, particularly the bathroom area. Easy enough to get to the main tourist areas by free boat but found this quite annoying having to time my returns appropriately to fit in with the crossings. Probably wouldn’t stay here again as for the first time ever was sea sick (doesn’t help that the boat also moves quite a bit as well). If your on a tight budget then certainly worth the money.
