Anyone know who sells Kohinoor brown basmati?
Got this for £7.5 yesterday in Ilford
This is one of the leading brands of Basmati rice in India. I use this instead of the overpriced Tilda
£9 in my local. Another Tesco WGC...... :(
I use this regularly and is on offer at £9, which is still great value for decent rice.

If this is sourced from India or Pakistan then more likely to have pesticide residues and go unchecked for high amounts of arsenic. Personally I prefer the value 1kg bags of rice normally about 40p and sourced from the US. All rice has arsenic though and higher in brown varieties.
"White basmati rice from California, India, and Pakistan, and sushi rice from the U.S. on average has half of the inorganic-arsenic amount of most other types of rice."
"All types of rice (other than sushi rice) with a label indicating that it’s from Arkansas, Louisiana, or Texas or just from the U.S. had the highest levels of inorganic arsenic in our tests"
"Brown rice has 80 percent more inorganic arsenic on average than white rice but has extra nutrients.... Brown basmati from California, India, or Pakistan is the best choice; it has about a third less inorganic arsenic than other brown rices"

If this is sourced from India or Pakistan

Is there any rice field in the UK or in the EU? The rice grown in other Asian tropical countries will not be any better then the one grown in India or Pakistan.

As others mention, v1 was horrible as whenever the fan was due to speed up it would make a really loud noise whereas at 250W power draw and under my fan is always spinning but is constantly silent and never spins up. My PC doesn't draw more than 250W so can't say what will happen above that.

Very pleased with this PSU!
I got mine not too long ago, here's what I said on [H]:

So here it is!

(Sorry about the lighting of the first few photos, had the colour balance set up wrong.)

Didn't expect to receive an ATX->SFX bracket so that was a nice addition.

Can confirm the PSU runs silent (fan is spinning permanently though) and is super cool. In my bad airflow case it does not even get hot or spin up on load (i7 4790K and GTX 970). Really happy with it!

My case, CPU and GPU fans are (unsurprisingly I guess) louder.
The bottom line is that being priced now at 66 pounds, this deal is 9 pounds cheaper than scan.co.uk @ 75 bucks. You can't currently buy any cheaper brand new SFX-L in the UK than this deal. But the more important question is this:

Does amazon handle the RTB RMA back to Germany for you after the initial 28 days, or after the first 12 months of a faulty item window?

Perhaps Scan does handle this all for the customer? Inferred by reading what they put in their Warranty Section details. See here:

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/500w-silverstone-sx500-lg-v20-90-eff-80-plus-gold-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-40a-plus12v-120mm-fan-atx

Its an open question that hopefully others here will be able to answer. For either Scan or Amazon.co.uk. I would like to know too.

Edited By: dreamcat4 on Sep 25, 2016 14:35
I've had one of these for years, essentially silent, no coil whine and a very good PSU but this is in fact an SFX-L which are slightly longer.
Be aware that Silverstone don't have a warranty base in the UK. So an RMA / RTB is to germany unless you go back through the retailer for example Scan. Which might / might not be any extra hassle (sorry I don't know as have not RMAd anything myself).

We bought 2 different units here, a v1.1 and a v2.0. In regards to revision differences:

v1.0

"All of the capacitors used in the SX500-LG V1.1 are high quality Japanese made units. The original SX500-LG V1.0 used Japanese made capacitors on the primary but mostly Taiwanese capacitors on the secondary."

Aparrently the v1.0 and v1.1 can have issue whereby there is a fan blade contact resulting in a scraping or clicking noise. Typically when the fan is starting and stopping. As it happens I can hear very quietly indeed on my v1.1. Which have owned for about 1 year now. However that sound is always being drowned out by a nearby laptop's fan. In a silent room it still may be quite difficult for me to hear without putting ear close up to the PSU. So the extent of the issue seems rather varied. As other people get really loud / unnacceptable clicking noise or anywhere in-between those two extremes.

* Not sure about coil whine issues. However the v1.1 and v2.0 have all-Jap caps if that makes any difference sorry I don't know. But they must have needed to rid those remaining cheaper caps for some valid reason.

v1.1

I get the impression for almost everybody v1.0 is really not recommended. However v1.1 might be OK if you don't have any un-wanted noise issues, and don't mind that its semi-passive mode is completely dumb and was never implemented properly. Which may lead to it wearing out the fan. Spinning it up far too often. Which also happens to exaserbate the possible fan click / chirping noise issue. Those are 2 different issues BTW.

Again v1.1 is probably ok if you wish to mod it and replace the fan yourself. BTW that voids the warranty, but might be worth it as solves such issues. Or if you can tolerate the possibility of doing an RMA should your unit develop unacceptable behaviour / noises within the 3 year warranty period.

v2.0

AFAIK moving up to the v2.0 it just removes the semi-passive mode. Am not aware of any other known differences until someone fully tears down a re-reviews v2.0 unit. Which has not happened yet.

So all we can assume ATM is that the v2.0 is more-or-less effectively the same as other the other similar SFX-L 500 watt models now. Meaning those made by the same OEM (excluding the Lian Li PE-500 of another OEM). None of which are available from mainstream suppliers here in UK/EU. They are all sold in other regions. Such as:

* Chieftec Smart Series SFX-500GD-C
* Sharkoon SILENT STORM SFX GOLD 500W

Just got back India and did the Golden Triangle.
absolutely amazing place. Beautiful forts and buildings and so much history.
Before we went we heard many horror stories. we took the Delhi Subway as well and didn't have no issues. Obviously, make sure you keep your valuables close and be alert at all times but that's just the same as any place in the UK.
loved the place, the people and the food. Be careful where you eat though as you can easily get the runs from Street food but I guess that's where the fun is!
It won't be everyone's cup of tea but if you like sightseeing, travelling and different cultures then you will love India.

its good to hear experiences like this......I went back to delhi last oct on a business trip (had not been back for over 10 years) and the city has that western feel to it now...the metro makes travelling around safe, cheap and a lot quicker than jumping into a tutt tutt.. went down to see the Taj at again, well worth the trip. we paid about £140 for a driver/car/local guide for the whole weekend which was cheap as chips (hotels extra)

Also been to Mumbai/Bangalore on other business trips with no safety issues as well...I can highly recommend india to everyone for a holiday.

Don't know anyone who's been to India and not got food poisoning, in some cases quite seriously. I'd love to see the place but it seems to be too dirty for 'delicate' western constitutions.
Depends where you eat/drink and just as importantly what you eat drink.
You're right, their levels of sanitation are significantly lower then ours. But that's an average measurement. There are eateries which will match or supersede the sanitation/cleanliness levels of establishments you frequent at home.
I know plenty of people that have visited without suffering food poisoning. Including my Wife who visited for the first time for 6 weeks (and we travelled extensively through the North and South).
When travelling abroad there are simple rules one should adhere to:
1) If you would avoid an establishment at home, its probably a good idea to avoid it abroad.
2) If in doubt stick to freshly cooked food, avoid uncooked/reheated/raw/etc food.
3) Drink bottled water and drinks unless you know its safe to drink from the tap/etc
4) Understand its not always about cleanliness, but also about tolerance. For example we are accustomed to heavily pasteurised dairy products. That helps us avoid nasty bugs in dairy. But it also means we can't tolerate bacteria that people brought up elsewhere are able too. Avoid food like dairy products where naturally occurring bacteria may lead to problems irrespective of cleanliness/sanitation. Cooked cheeses/boiled milk/etc are fine as they have effectively been pasteurised. But avoid yoghurts/cold milk (that hasn't been boiled recently)/creams/etc.
Hope that helps.
Good advice without question but only reduces the risk from a high level to a somewhat lower one. A couple of (cautious) friends in particular were determined to see the sights then take a week in Goa so they booked a (very expensive) trip staying in good to excellent hotels. Were both very ill within days, spoiled the rest of the trip and took more than 3 months to get over it. Unfortunately I've heard too many stories like theirs so I'm not going. I've had a stomach bug in much better places than these and it can be really awful (even dangerous in some cases). One business conference to Morocco staying at a top hotel had well over half the group ill, some quarantined at Gatwick on their return and a couple hospitalised. The only ones who escaped were some very cautious Scots who took most of their food with them and drowned it in duty free Scotch (yes, I exaggerate a little but there is a lesson in there). I realise there is some risk in all travel (or even at home) but India just seems to offer a near guarantee of illness. Good luck to those who go though!
I did manage a three week trip to Cambodia and Vietnam: fabulous food there (French influence) and just one wobbly day after I was foolish enough to have a hamburger rather than local food!

Ooh you can give me some tips on food in Cambodia and Vietnam for my Christmas trip.

Heat! This is an awesome deal and a good time to go as well, just before it becomes bloody hot. Often have to pay £500 pp for a return flight to Delhi so this is a bargain. India has its issues no doubt as with anywhere else but some of the comments are plain ignorant. Talk to your guides/locals about local do's and dont's.
Varanasi's not just another city though, is a different world and tough to take for some, so make sure you have the stomach. Train reservations are really best made atleast 3-4 months in advance, IRCTC can take some getting used to but is reliable enough.

It would (wood?) be far better to just use an ordinary fan to move the air in the room. These are a gimmick, like curved TVs
sorry, but that is nonsense. These are silent and use no power. They are also much better at moving the warm air around without causing noticeable air currents.
Is that you Grandma? They don't "use no power". They are powered by the heat of the stove. you heated the stove by burning fuel. Oh, and they're "silent" because they are doing ****-all
you are quite right - the power they use will reduce the heat output from the stove, and the fact that they are silent will mean that there are no gusts of hot air. I will get my electric fan out as soon as the weather gets cold.

Utter rubbish. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Are you suggesting an ordinary fan (without stove) that you plug in is better at heating a room evenly, than a wood burning stove and a fan that simply uses the heat of the stove to 'power' it?

If I'm going to be using a stove over the colder months, and I don't already have a fan, why would I also pay to power a fan when this does the same for the cost of the fuel (that's already being used for heat).

I fail to see the logic, or efficiency in your comments.

How is that last years average phone?
This would be worth the price tag if the best feature which it was advertised as actually was active 4K screen!!!!!! No wonder Sony is doing so badly, think they have more money then sense.

I switched from iPhone 6+ to this 3 months ago, still have the iPhone as a spare but won't go back especially after iOS 10, it is so buggy and troublesome to use... this however works great and I bought the Sony watch to go with it

Have a 6 Plus here on iOS 10. What bugs are you seeing? The only one I've noticed is that my downloaded iPlayer programmes won't carry on when I hit play (if I've locked the screen). Apart from that it seems to be working great!

Classic fragrance and perfect for work where you don't want an over powering fragrance.

Bad experience of buying this perfume. Smell does not last even 1 hour

Apparently there are loads of counterfeits around. Could it be that you just weren't using the real thing?

How good is this as a male fragrance? I can see it says female and male but the free Reveal Women pouch is a little off-putting
If it helps, my 6ft 3 ex rugby playing husband wears it, he describes the scent as clean, sharp & fresh

Ordered, thanks for posting :)

The regular edition is £8 at tesco at the moment. I'm unsure which is better, I've read crowns are really important? I don't want to spend too much. I wanted to be in the dark brotherhood though
voyager123
shame the crowns are not on sale on the xbox as thats the version i have, anyone know why crowns are so expensive from microsoft they want 31.99 while its 22.99 from the elder scrolls site and psn (price before discount)https://www.microsoft.com/en-GB/store/p/5500-Crowns/BNS90J4D3N56
i get my xbox one crowns from game,,3000 for about £13
Anyone know why the prices for xbox1 Elder Scrolls Online are so expensive compared to the ps4, at Game, and I assume elsewhere?
Game special edition brand new. Comes with 1250 crowns. £9.99. Then the DLC separate. Bargain. http://www.game.co.uk/en/m/the-elder-scrolls-online-tamriel-unlimited-crown-edition-only-at-game-595934
I had the original, got the 5500 crowns last night as soon as the offer was announced and bought the dlc pack. Was going to get another 5500 and get the latest dlc for 1500 as thats not included but only seems to be a dungeon that one so might give that one a miss.

Going back on the game after about a year of not playing - its changed quite a bit. Plus its one of the first native 4k games on the pro :)

You can skip over any of the categories that you don't feel well-enough informed to vote on.
I tried that, but it wouldn't let me vote skipping them all :D
There must be at least one category that you know something about, surely? :p
If in doubt, vote for Deus Ex where you can (and where Blood and Wine isn't an available option). :)
Oh yeah, best game platform I could give a genuine vote for lol. Most of the categories just made me realise how hopelessly out of touch with gaming I've become!

"$84 in games"... only when you refer to the artificially blown up prices of the Xbox Store. £10 ABSOLUTE tops for all 4 - crap month for Games with Gold, hopefully PS Plus offers something better, though judging from previous offerings, I'm not holding much hope...

The Escapists is £20 pre-owned from CEX and Reflex MX v ATV is £8, so I think you've got your figures wrong somewhere!
Cool. I was going to buy Mega Baseball. now I don't need to. I've been after a good Baseball game since The Bigs.
I don't have any of those so a win for me.
gavin1
Unless there a fix MX vs ATV Reflex cannot be completed as there are seven online achievements that can't be unlocked as the servers were closed down when THQ went bankrupt, and Nordic games have not managed to recreate them due to the fact the underlying software had changes and they can't recreate the setups.
That's sucks! I didn't know that.

Ok I'll play along. You explain to me how to set up a Brazialin xbox account and pay for this 89p game then.
Have a read of this m8!!!
But Revolt doesn't work any more? And you can't add credit for foreign stores without having an account for that country. You can't have an account without an address and a form of payment. That's why I have a UK, US and Russian account as I have 3 debit/credit cards. But you can't then use those cards and they often reject. My russian account decided it wasn't going to work any more recently. I managed to jiggle it around again but my lord is it a hassle!
I'm actually genuinely interested in a method which isn't a pain. The Russian store is generally very good.

Did you actually read the post i linked to m8??
Simple instructions on how to buy xbox credit using your revolut card, i know it works as i had to buy another 1000rubles this morning so that i could buy Just Cause 3 XL & i used my revolut card to buy the credit!!
You dont need separate accounts, you just need a payment method & address set up for each region you will purchase from. I tend to just use Russia, as they are normally one of the cheaper regions, although i do sometimes use Brazil as well :)

Will this help me re-live the days when I had to annually change the void bushes on my Cortina every **** time it failed it's MOT.
Will it educate today's youth that changing the plugs, points, distributor cap and ht leads was a labour of love?
Anyone buy a Gunson's spark plug analyser with the colour changing window so they could see what colour their spark was?
Timing gun?
How about Slick 50?
I put that in my 2.0 MK 5 Cortina and convinced myself that it sounded quieter and I was getting more mpg.
Ahh,those were the days :)

I expect a lot of that is double dutch to young drivers today.

A massive thank you for posting this, not sure why its expired as I have just ordered. Ordered the ones pictured as my 7 year old asked for these for his birthday. Was going to order them last night on Sportsdirect for £22 but you cant personalise them (which is an extra £10). Just ordered these for £24.95 with my sons full name on and an England flag, with free delivery are a massive bargain! TCB has tracked at £1.74 :)
A massive thank you :)
You're welcome. I was in a Sports Direct store, they didn't have my daughter's size, so I looked online and found those! £7 cheaper and free delivery

I'm made up as my son could have his whole name on his boots, Sports Direct will only personalise upto 4 letters/numbers but Adidas personalise up to 10 and can include a flag (normally an extra £10 on top again). Free delivery definitely makes the offer even better as Sports Direct again is £4.99. My son willl be hapy :) Thanks

These aren't sim free are they? Once you put a sim card in it locks to that particular network? Or have things changed?
Wouldn't the £25 off code work on this to make it £574.00? Not that it would make the deal any better but whatever.
