In general planet x wheels are well reviewed. I have a pair of planet x carbon tubs on my road bike that I love.

Not tried these particular wheels yet but they will come fitted to my planet x track bike when it arrives.

Voted hot before I knew expired. Shame. Would have been a little tempted.
Great price for a decent (according to reviews / feedback) pair of wheels. Put them in my basket, but didn't check out - I don't really need them. The deal is expired now, however.
Showing as £379.95 now.

Are these winter tyres? It says end of season sale!

If anything more summer but reviews say that they are quite durable for what they are.

Same my mower just stopped working and was looking at a cheap Bosch etc. I hear Bosch don't make them ( if you bought your Bosch from Argos/Homebase) but have sold the licensing on to Argos/ Homebase to rebadge their own stuff.

Just bought for £45 including delivery with 10% off WELCOME code for new accounts. Also, Quidco cashback of 2% when a voucher is used and they charged 1% for paypal payment but can't grumble too much as it's overall a good price.
That's an excellent price. Did you get a game with the extra 10%? As that would make the game around £31 which is a huge saving on the pre-order price.

True but I didn't buy the game at that price as I rarely buy pre-order games and would rather wait until it hits the sub £20 mark. I'm too cheap to pay full release price for games (Fallout 4 being the only exception) and there are lots of other driving games I haven't played yet. Thanks for the post!

I ended up buying Avons from Halfords for £75 each fitted, which seems a decent price for reasonable quality tyres this size. Shame these were runflats as I'd have had then otherwise.

Bought some CONTINENTAL CONTIECOCONTACT 5 195 60 R16 93V Amazon via Pneumaticionlinestore £41.13. They turned up today and are the xl version.
I didn't know what xl was but after looking it up they are just a higher weight limit and xl stands for extra load. Don't ask me why not el. X)
The Conti website seems to indicate that these are runflats. Is there a non-run flat version?
Doesn't say anything about them being run flats on them but I don't know.

Anyone got much experience of these? The online reviews aren't great.
Getting 2 out of 4 fitted tomorrow but they look and feel like a decent tyre.
Not sure what you mean by look and feel...have you any experience of them on a vehicle?
They don't look/feel like cheap tyres, they feel like good quality rubber. They've only been delivered today and I will be getting 2 fitted tomorrow but I don't think I'm going to be burning them out, the days of the Impreza are gone and I'm only running a 1.33ltr Toyota urban cruiser these days lol.
It will say 'contiseal' on the tyre wall somewhere.
They recommend they are used with a Type Pressure Warning System. If you don't have one, then its best you check them regularly for any nails/damage etc.
I've just checked them and they show no wording or indication that they are run flat. If you are buying these expect them to be standard tyres apart from being the XL variety.
On the other hand, this page from Conti's own website suggests it is a runflat. If you click on the link and look at the bottom of the tyre picture you can see the runflat sign. If it is a runflat, I would not advise fitting it to a normal rim. I cannot find a non run flat version of the ContiEcoContact 5 on the website.http://www.continental-tyres.co.uk/car/tyres/car/summer-car-tyres/contiecocontact5

There you go:
ContiSeal™ is a technology developed by Continental designed to seal damaged tyre tread. If you experience a puncture by a small yet impactful object like a nail, there is no need for an inconvenient and immediate roadside tyre change. With ContiSeal™ holes in the tyre will remain sealed even if the object that caused the puncture becomes dislodged.

ContiSeal™ is a sticky, gum-like sealant layer that is inside the tyre in the tread area. The technology seals 80 per cent of all punctures and therefore reduces the risk of flat tyres. ContiSeal™ tyres are marked clearly with a symbol on the sidewall and are compatible with all commonly available wheel rims.

Can anyone recommend an ok rear gear cog that would basically replace the one i had on my triban 500se? i also need a spacer to go with the back gear cogs.
thanks for the heat, this is my first deal over 200 (over 0 i think).

You'll probably find that the spacers are included with the wheel and the cassette.
In terms of value for money I think that shimano 105 is a good bet - very marginally more expensive than the lower quality stuff.
I don't know what the spec is on the triban, how many speeds and what the gear range is. I'd look for 11-28 or something to get a good range (11 teeth on the highest gear, 28 on the lowest)

I just can't understand how someone would want to steal the wheels off a Triban 500. I love my '14 Triban 500 but the wheels don't look anything special!
the front had marathon 2 tyre and the rear a mitchelin reinforced slick so they probably looked nicer then normal. loved that tyre setup...

decent wheels, I have been through four sets of them. they last about 3000 miles with heavy use.
That's hard to believe - I've had second-hand wheels (i.e. already part-used) last twice as long as that. What are you doing to them?!
I commute every day to work in all weathers, 10 miles each way. flat out. I also live in Bath and North East Somerset and its hilly as hell, so the brakes get used a fair bit on steep descents. Believe me, its true!I have never had any set of wheels last 3000 miles. Either the rims go completely concave, or the hub gets destroyed. In which case, its not worth repairing, as they are cheap wheels anyway.

But I didn't say there's no difference between this and a frame half the price, did I?
This is maybe what - 10% - 20% better, but twice as expensive. And how exactly is the better measured in this case, if the weight is the same, and so is stiffness?
I can appreciate a good frameset. But don't see the point of spending more than you have to. That's my opinion.
BTW I haven't voted, so no need to get excited.

I like to think I know a fair bit about bikes. Still I don't think this is a good deal. It's just a good carbon frame. You can buy a quality carbon frameset for half the price.
It's all marginal gains. And unless you make a living as a cyclist, it just isn't worth it.
As someone that knows a thing or two about cycling you can't honestly believe that theres no diffrence in this and a frameset half the price?
If that was the case we'd all be riding round on £50 bikes from Tescos if there was no diffrence after all its all just marginal gains

We got on fine with black and white TVs and one channel not so long ago too.

You're not really making a point here. It's not a product for the masses like a TV, now is it?

And there is my point in a nutshell, it's not a mainstream product for everyone. As I said above 90% of people might not gain any tangible benefit but some might just enjoy the fact they have a well engineered product. When TVs were black and white nobody died from lack of resolution or colour, most people would be fine with a £200 720p LCD and yet 55" OLED seem to fly out the door. Nobody needs them, do they? Does the news inform you better? Are comedians jokes funnier?

A. Thats because black and white TVs were the only option. B. what kind of a stupid comparison is that???

The comparison is perfectly valid. Yes, you can get by on something basic, but now you have the option to have something nicer that not everyone needs/wants.
If you have the money to spend on a frameset like this and you enjoy cycling, it's a good deal. £1150 off the Rrp.

Could anybody advise if these would fit my Triban 3? Assume that, if they do, they're a decent upgrade? Also, how easy would it be for a novice to switch wheels? Thanks in advance.

Probably with a spacer, but these wheels would be a bit overkill for your bike. Get local bike shop to fit if you are unsure.
Just had mine delivered this morning. Quality looking wheels with tyres and tubes to boot.

35mm x 700c are £6.99 @ Planet X Here
But 35mm tyres. Who uses those!?

Me. Spot on for a cyclocross bike used for winter commuting along gravel/canal paths.
P.S. On these Randonneurs, the grooved arrows should preferrably be facing forward as slightly increases the roll and instead of collecting particles in the grooves, spits them out the back slightly more than if they were fitted the other way.
Few tricks for punctures. When changing tubes, inflate the new tube slightly and insert into tyre before fitting. This prevents twists and makes everything else easier too. Pull the valve well out to make sure no twists there either.

Second, when taking out a punctured tyre, mark the position near the valve with a sticky tape or tie a string before removing it. Once you find the the hole, in a deep pot full of water, note it's angel and position with respect to the valve. Find the relative position on the tyre with the reference point you marked. Now you can hunt down the little culprit, usually tiny glass, and dig it out. Otherwise you will simply get another puncture if it is still there.

Finally bought a couple of these Randonneurs last week and fitted them, without any levers or any tools. even Marathon+ can be fitted without any tool or even strings or zip ties as in the last link below. Even if the lever does not puncture the new tube, it can strain and weaken it by wearing it out. No tools are needed except a little knowledge. Push in the whole of one side, easy. Then just keep pushing the tyre edges deep into the belly of the wheel rim and push up towards the last bit. Alternate sides, till it pops in, very easy:

To me it highlights you can buy an old turd, do it up yourself and end up owning the pin up you wanted in the first place.

The buying and selling is more a bit of a framework to show they aren't just sticking £20,000 of parts in every car and saying look this is easy. TV programs are there to entertain, they certainly aren't structured to make money from the actual processes in the episode.

G27 £149 in pc world! No brainer cold sorry

Seriously? The T500rs is £320, works with ps3,4 & pc & is one of the best wheels out there.
Microsoft are annoying in that they use a different protocol for usb port communication making backwards compatibility with controllers impossible.

Erm, Sony did the exact same thing with the security chip in PS4 peripherals. It's basically there to monetise companies by using licensing fees for the tech. The consumer, as always, pays the price for it.

Some other PS3 wheels do work to an extent, but they are all Thrustmaster wheels too.

I won't go near them, as Logitech will always be way out in front when it comes to racing wheels.

Microsoft are annoying in that they use a different protocol for usb port communication making backwards compatibility with controllers impossible.
Unless you use that German F1 Race Adaptor (_;)

I wish Mr Tyre was in London...its an amazing deal

You can get it through National tyres. Write an email to [email protected] and request a price match.

Give them the link to the website and tell them which tyres and your tyre size. Also make sure u tell them how many u wanna buy.

They send u a link and it directs u to tyreshopper and u can get it fitted at a national tyre branch. You can also download a voucher from national tyres which gives u half price tracking for £15.

My quote was cheaper than mr tyre by about £1 per tyre.

Alternate idea if near or prefer F1 Autocentres over Mr Tyre...:
Does show as OP says at £38.94 on MrTyre website, but £46.20 @ F1 Autocentres' site.
Get F1 Autocentres "price promise" as they match & beat by 10% of the difference
So 4 x £7.26 difference x 10% = £2.90 saved.
Did an F1 price match last year (albeit on more expensive tyres) and got very rapid response/agreement exactly as per promise,

How straight did you get the wheels? Did yoi use a gauge or stand to align them?
Not got the rims yet, and still to decide on hubs and work out spoke lengths and get those too. I've already bought a park spoke tension meter, and plan to get a dishing gauge and wheel truing stand of some description.

I'm not in a mad rush to get everything so will probably keep looking out for bargains on hubs, spokes, and other tools.

BACONIZGUD4ME
Now I just buy hope hoops and ride my bike never looked back. Rims are so good now you can build them badly but still get a strong wheel.

Main reasons for self-build are hoping to use a dynamo hub (the only alternative seems to be to get someone else to custom build them), and going for 36 spokes as I tilt the scales at about 110kg.

I used to build my own wheels, better than machine built but not really much cheaper and its a pain in the ass to get the right spoke lengths.

Now I just buy hope hoops and ride my bike never looked back. Rims are so good now you can build them badly but still get a strong wheel.

Have a look at roger musson's wheel building book, lengthy and detailed but you'll end up with a very strong wheel.

Yes, took ages.

Also all faulty, with corroded batteries.

Can you get one for a car?

You can, but they're not legal and you'd look like an idiot.

There not that legal on a bicycle either, the fact that they emit light both forward and backward and are fixed to the bike would mean they must emit white light only to the front of the bike and red light only to the back of the bike this also applies to both wheels.

The worse you'll get is a fine if stopped unless your using the blue ones in which case you can and will get done for impersonating a police officer as blue lights are highly illegal.

They are also being sold on groupon. So if they are illegeal it is rather amusing!
Also reading this it seems ok as long as they are not flashing

Legal to own just not legal to use.
Where are you getting all this from? Do you have any links to the relevant laws etc?

The Highway Code:

59. At night your cycle MUST have white front and red rear lights lit. It MUST also be fitted with a red rear reflector (and amber pedal reflectors, if manufactured after 1/10/85). White front reflectors and spoke reflectors will also help you to be seen. Flashing lights are permitted but it is recommended that cyclists who are riding in areas without street lighting use a steady front lamp.
Law RVLR regs 13, 18 & 24

114 You MUST NOT
- use any lights in a way which would dazzle or cause discomfort to other road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders
- use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves to avoid dazzling other road users (see Rule 226).
- In stationary queues of traffic, drivers should apply the parking brake and, once the following traffic has stopped, take their foot off the footbrake to deactivate the vehicle brake lights. This will minimise glare to road users behind until the traffic moves again.
- Law RVLR reg 27

If you're after a cheap wheel its probably fine, but if you're after a true sim wheel save up for either the G27 (can sometimes grab for 149.99) or the fanatec GT2 (alot more expensive but works with all platforms including xbox).

I have the G27 and although its louder than my old GT2, its alot easier to setuo and 99% of racing games have a profile already there for the button configs!
if you go to deal it comes up with £39.99 better than you thought. tried wheels in the past payed £100 for one a few years back and they've all been ****.

stick with the rs10's there's not much difference in weight, and not as much difference overall to justify the spend imho

thats ok, i'm surprised nobody came in with more info , but it's all out there i suppose..... it's a matter of opinion and personal preference really, some people maybe prefer the hubs in the fulcrums, some think the shimanos are more sturdy and so on and so on, there both in the same bracket so you cant go wrong really,,,,,

but never forget the merckx,,,,,,pele would of run rings round me in his slippers, lewis hamilton would be flying past me in a go kart and eddy merckx would of flown past me riding a penny farthing, ,,,,maybe not the last one one ,,, it would of been close,,,,,sprint finish maybe ,,,,, get out riding

Any T500RS rim will fit on the TX, the GTE rim is a very good replacement, but it is another £80 from Ebuyer.
It is a weak market at the moment (on the Xbox One side). Largely because of lack of wheels and games that use them!

The console is only 3 months old though and the advantage of this is you can upgrade/change parts as you go. For the enthusiast this is the best sort of thing available for the Xbox One today. I am sure in time better things will come though :)
Ok, I watched the video review and I stand corrected about the quality of the steering and force feedback. It does sound impressive. For the money though I'm suprised you dont get a better quality wheel, clutch and shifter. I only say this comparing the product to the Logitech G27.

That said though, Thrustmaster do have the T500 so probably dont want you to get too much for your money otherwise the T500 would be redundant.

I may keep this on my radar in case it drops lower in price.

very expensive for what it is. It's a premium price purely for xbox one from what I can see. A comparible wheel spec wise would be the driving force gt on PS3 and PC and it's around £70 I think.

This may be slightly better but if you want a wheel for PC then there are better for the price. For Xbox one, you may be stuck with this.

Total BS post.
You've not researched at all and are just comparing it to that based on the logo of wheel lmao.

Not complete BS. I have researched many wheels for use on PC. The T500 from Thrustmaster being my best choice but failing that the G27 from Logitech. The G27 is the same price as this from PC World and also has the clutch and shifter. This is similar in spec to the Driving force GT except the motor / force feedback mechanism, which of course would be different as it's by Thrustmaster, not logitech.

It may be a good wheel but without the clutch or shifter, you are paying £200 for not much

I don't like the wheel either, it looks very tacky and cheap like it's £70 version.
But that doesn't mean it is, please check the review posted above. Totally different wheels.

Not sure why this was voted cold?

Paid £210 for a used one on eBay as the seller said collection only, I bidded and arranged delivery myself, (total £221.99)

Good company to deal with so if I have problems I can easily contact them.

Will look at the addons, want the gated shifter first, then the 458 wheel would be cool!
It is a good price although they were doing it even cheaper last week.
I ended up ordering elsewhere for a few quid more purely on the basis of the bad reports I've read about the company and their customer service ... or lack there of.

As for being for previous generation consoles, that does not apply if using it on PCs and I've heard it's PS4 compatible too. It's pretty much the best wheel for the price, especially given how much the Logitech G27 has gone up over the last year.
good stuff
Good price.
This much for an accessory for a previous generation console? Seems like a bad deal to me.
Give it a few months and I'd be surprised if it hadn't gone down much further.

This is the normal price.

If you're looking for racing sims then have a look at Race 07 and GT Legends on Steam, really cheap and will give you a taste of what a sim is like before committing to the newer ones like rFactor 2, Game Stock Car and Assetto Corsa when it comes out.

GT Legends is a good game for using the the clutch and h-pattern, looks great for it's age, lots of great cars and tracks, plus you can download even more for free from sites like Race Department and NoGripRacing. Only costs a couple of quid on Steam.

For rally Richard Burns Rally is definitely the best one, graphics are showing their age now but still unmatched in physics/driving.

Would be a waste to spend this much on a wheel like this for a console IMO, GT5 is the only one it would be any good on, games like Grid and Dirt are just arcade and not really designed for use with a wheel..

I have a high-end gaming PC and a PS3, I like both mainstream racing games and sims, they both have their place. Thanks for the recommendations I will definitely give them a go.
