Emailed Groupon anyway, will see what they say. Asked politely if they can reassure me that the item is genuine and where have they sourced it from?

is this the contour thing my mrs wants ?
Sony, if you want decent IS. Still rare my AS30V highly.
had the original version of this. it was brilliant. way better than gopro at the time. battery can't be replaced tho but the battery did used to last quite a while due to it has no screens and no other gimmicks to run.
its a decent camera for the price. I have a Drift Stealth2 which is very compact but major problems with it freezing. The best one i currently use is a Svc Tcl 200 about £40 as good as any of the others if not better

Why not just get the roam 3? It's waterproof and cheaper. Ok it doesn't have gps but I have no need for that. The only downside to the contour range is the mounts are ridiculously expensive for what they are.

Looks like a good deal. You can also use techmoans link, its usually the manufacturers link (probably China, so will take time to be delivered) or at least a genuine seller (just under video box). It will be the one reviewed.
techmoan.com/blo…tml

Be aware, I've noticed that at the bottom of the review there is an update as of 28/12/13 - he states that the current crop only have 90 degree, not 140 degree arc. You should therefore be sure to order the 140 degree one, as you wanted a wide angle. This may be one of the reasons for the different ASIN numbers.

Edited by: "dooper" 9th Mar 2014
Yep, the SJ1000 looks like the better contender, if the audio is up to requirements. Adding bits to a mobius wouldn’t work — they’d get it wrong and end up calling me. With this sort of application, the requirements are turned on their head compared to what most people are looking for in an action cam. Low res is desired in this use case; the SJ1000 timestamps are actually a useful default here (whereas most people would hunt for a way to turn it off); etc. You know, all the opposite of how I use my own action cam. It looks like the SJ1000 is the top of the list I’ll put to them. Thanks for the reassurance.

Would anyone recommend a cam that has about 120° fov; good low-light; … Would anyone recommend a cam that has about 120° fov; good low-light; very good audio (preferably directional super-cardioid); a good battery life; easy to use (ie, contains a screen to frame up and see the results). No requirement for it to have weatherproofness; stabilisation or shockproofity, it’s just going to be sat on a table and left to run for the duration of a student slide presentation.I’m trying to suggest something to other lecturers to be able to record student presentations. We only really need it to be 640x480 (any bigger is not necessary but will encourage unwitting lecturers to produce huge file sizes which become a problem to deal with later). It’s a set-and-forget operation, point it at the projected image and student presenting, and leave it be. Cheap would be good, too. Batteries should be able to go for a while, but if they need changing, should be affordable and available. I recently tried out my own Sony AS15 in this role and it was ideal (with the front lid left dangling down for better audio) but I was using my Xperia Z to control it over wifi, and the camera’s text-only user interface by itself would confuse the non-technical lecturers (ie, all of them apart from me). The results were good enough to do the job (ie, prove that the presentation took place and the evaluation was what we said it was). And it’s tiny and discreet enough to not intimidate the student, once introduced to what it is. I also used my Zoom Q2HD, which admittedly gave better audio, and certainly adequate video, but the quite narrow fov isn’t wide enough to capture what’s going on, so I had to be considerably further back than was convenient and the audio became more remote sounding from there. If it were down to me, I’d personally get the Sony HDR MV1 but that costs too much for them to agree to. If there’s something cheap that has good audio and long battery life, that’s more likely to be agreed to.

check out techmoan on youtube or here (his favourite cameras are on right) - most are purchased through ebay.

I would have suggested Mobius, but you want a screen. You can feed directly to screen using supplied tv video out cable.
techmoan.com/blo…tml

You can boost battery life with a usb battery pack or similar:
ebay.com/itm…09a

The SJ1000 was well liked and fairly cheap, and has screen (£60):
techmoan.com/blo…tml

Few cheapo action cameras are good in low light - Mobius was did get commended for its low light ability in techmoans review.

My mate brought one of these ages ago must be first gen, i know for a fact he wouldn't of paid that much..

Strange. when this went live earlier it was 50% claimed then 30% now only 20% claimed.

I doubt the local store staff do any of these reductions, they'd be done at head office centrally.

We have 2 Tesco Extras here and they don't sell most of these supposed offers.
I find it hard to believe that stores in areas that are widely known as economically deprived like Great Yarmouth ever stocked this sort of stuff in the first place.
