Anyone know how long the warranty is? Just checked on link and states standard..... Is that 1 year or 2? Cheers in advance.

Which just show's that they must cut corners on new set's to keep the price reasonable but really with tech innovation they should get better each year :/

Word of warning. I have the dc748 model TCL. Updated to new software over the air Tuesday evening. When it come to rebooting the Tv. It broke. No software on TV to load. Had to find the TCL contact details from reseller webpages.. as they didn't respond to the online help form. But since Tuesday they gave me a firmware image to copy on usb to load. Still didn't work. They now are scheduling an engineer next week to attend. Just FYI. I would opt for a known bigger brand for my next tele

Yeah the 49" SK8500 was definitely £679 for Black Week at Currys. Funny is before it was at £879 but now it's at £999. So either they will drop it to higher than £679 for Boxing Day or - probably more likely - they'll advertise it on TV as a 40% off deal to attract the masses. Ive seen it side by side with the XF90 - the Sony is better but it's not worth the extra £250-300 for casual Sky HD and steaming for me. I guess it all depends on your useage.

Vape_Maniac

My bad. Got my wires crossed.

jimbobwalton

The SK8500 isn't OLED. It's a LCD with full array local ddimming.

timb999

fwiw in case you didn't see it, the 8500 was £679 on Black Friday, so maybe it may return in New Year sales - i.e. might be good to hold off as it has certainly been cheaper than it is now... https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/lg-49sk8500pla-smart-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-with-dolby-vision-679-currys-3109774 i also thought it was a curry's exclusive?

So is there somewhere with free extended warranty cheaper? If not then this is a deal, no? You can always buy warranty elsewhere if it’s an issue but as above I’ve returned a tv 4 years old previously.

all models below sk8000 are non nano cell panels and use the RGBW pixel filler. Info is out there if you look,do not do it on a LG site though a they do not promote this flaw obviously . Just wondering how you know it's RGBW

Rgbw so fake 4k. Only models above sk8000 use nano cell technology. This is fine if you are used to standard HD and upgrading but for that price you an get the sk8000 abiet a smaller screen but it's, far superior 4k.

That would be £1978.51 equivalent for your CRT, Jerry.

jerrysimon

Great TV, I paid £1999 this time last year for the same model. The picture quality is stunning as are the blacks! I swapped up from a 5 year old 55". Its amazing how quickly you get use to a larger Tv and even take it for granted. I paid £1000 for a 32" CRT 25 years ago, God know how much that would be in todays money :(

Gozer

You would happily pay more for me to get the latest? Thanks! (highfive)

Toothy1911

The panel is exactly the same as this years tech. The only difference is the processor they use in 2018 vs 2017. Its around 30% faster allowing LG to run some more image processing. But if you're feeding it good 4K content to begin with I dont think the processing matters...

As if I'm going to read that (y) agree to disagree

AdDaMan

Just not true anymore. I quote.. When it comes to both SDR 4K TVs and HDR models with wide color gamut and 10-bit color, the raw color volume differences between IPS models and VA models are almost null. In other words, all HDR wide color specs being equal, the two different display panel types perform about the same at delivering high dynamic range color, 10-bit color for 1.07 billion color values and overall color saturation. LG’s Super UHD 4K HDR TVs such as the UH9500 and UH8500are two particularly notable IPS TV models with superb color performance despite their weak contrast ratios and black levels compared to a typical mid-range VA HDR TV with the same HDR color specs. However, black levels and contrast do create a visual perception of more vibrant colors due to how the human eye perceives contrasts. Thus, a VA TV with deeper, richer blacks can look like its delivering sharper, richer colors in content simply because the onscreen dark tones contrast so much more sharply with colorful objects in the same piece of content. This is something that viewers should keep in mind and a reason why black levels and high contrast are considered so important for a more realistic and vibrant level of picture quality.

CarlosBricktop

Colours are true colours though, for example Reds, Blues and Yellows etc. But blacks aren't as deep black you're right, but for action movies or gaming - which a lot of people buy these 4k TVs for - IPS is superior, due to the true colours and angle viewing. It is seen as the best of all worlds, a simple search on Google will bring up lots of comparisons between IPS and the rest.

AdDaMan

Colour is far superior?! The blacks are grey lol. I think you are the only person I’ve heard who thinks IPS is better OTHER than for viewing angle.

CarlosBricktop

How do you work that out? Colour is far superior with IPS to VA and TN, refresh rate is better with TN but IPS has the best of all worlds in my opinion with the added bonus of viewing angle, such as having it in the corner of a large living room.

Samsung are shipping two variations of this 43” model: one with an IPS panel and one with a VA panel. The panel affects the picture type, and as they are not explicitly marked with the panel type, it’s down to luck which type you get. IPS - wider viewing angle but blacks tend to look grey. The clicking noise is caused by the plastic rear access cover as the TV heats up and expands - I guess you could always loosen it and see if that stops it?
