Really nice design. Normally find fire bowls/pits quite ugly but this one is really cool. The people complaining that it's rusted are making a bit of a drama out of it I think as there is a big difference between a bit of surface rust from where the paint has been burnt off and any actual structural rust or rotting of the panels.

We have an old oil drum that has been used as an incinerator for the past couple of years which burnt it's paint off when we first got it so has rusted all around the outside where the paint used to be but structurally it is still completely solid. I expect it will be rotten and falling to bits one day but it will take a while for that.

The pyramid chiminea looks good value at £59 from £79

That one in the OP looks really nice to be fair. Just don't think i'd ever use a fire pit - if its warm enough anyway then you don't need one and if its cold then I go inside. Plus the smell of smoke on you the next day - eugh!
At the end of the day, you're having a fire in a painted metal container, so the paint will burn off because of the heat, then the metal will rust because the metal now has no protection

They look better rusted anyway

Reviews are not so good - "rusted after 1 week" - not good for £55

I've never had one that hasn't rusted after a while sadly & I'm afraid I don't trust Amazon reviews as much as I used to since there are so many fb groups where reviews are paid for

It isn't ideal to be using a metal horse with a chainsaw in health and … It isn't ideal to be using a metal horse with a chainsaw in health and safety terms since bits of metal are going to go wizzing off if the two clash. Obviously most horses that are sold are metal anyway...The main problem with these type of horses (and really most of any type) is that smaller diameter wood (which is going to be what most weekend warriors use these for) has a tendency of flying out of the horse during cuts unless you're super careful, which is a pain in the ****. That chainsaw is chinese rubbish. Better off buying a £50 one straight from China on ebay. Same saw anyway...

The exact same horse in B & Q says it's suitable for chainsaws. As with all equipment there has to be some common sense as well as health and safety. If Einhall who manufacture for Aldi, or Aldi for that matter, were conscientious of the health and safety aspect of NOT using a metal horse with a chainsaw, then they should have taken the liberty of applying a larger notice on the packaging. It's a tiny red label on the BACK of the box. A bit of a joke really.

I assembled the horse and used it yesterday. For £8.99 (half price) it's actually not bad and I would suggest quite a bit safer than cutting logs on top of other logs on the ground. I had some branches about 4 metres long and about 3" diameter. It cut them well with no issues. The only problem are the thinner branches which don't grip too well in the jaws and spin round. A bit of pressure on the chainsaw stopped this but felt the jaws were not sharp enough. Despite other reviews on amazon I found the horse extremely sturdy, even on concrete and never felt it would tip up. I could easily chop the logs down to about a metre long and then chop off smaller bits for the chiminea or wood burner. I would say anything less than about 2" diameter should be cut on a chop saw.

I will probably make some modifications to the horse which will make it safer but will also invalidate the warranty. A quick release strap or clamp to secure the log to the horse would be an improvement or sharper teeth in the jaws. I may even clad the inner part of the legs with timber in order to ensure that metal contact of the chainsaw blade will never meet with the metal of the legs.

exactly right pateo, might get one and leave it by the door tonight
Just bought a log horse similar to this from Aldi. Half price at £8.99. On getting it home, unpacked it and on each leg it says "Do Not Use With Chainsaws". Now I don't believe there is anyone out there who would buy a log horse who WOULDN'T be wanting to use it with a chainsaw. Looks like the guy from Einhell who make the tools for Aldi must be fresh out a health and safety course.

Have now used this stove over 2 winters. There has been no problem with it at all and I cant understand the comments of needing replacement glasses or melted fire grate? The only slight problem is that the air adjustment is on a threaded bolt which wears and gets a little loose. It gives out lots of heat. I may replace this stove this year and buy a stove with a bigger door glass, or I may just use it again this winter.
Ive had mine in for a year i burn hiheat smokeless coal in the winter its on a low setting and one big shovel last from 8am to 5pm and right thru to the next day banked up b4 bed still going in the morning its so warm and cosy its a god send i even put a steel kettle of mulled wine i drink it and its lovely spiced aroma thru the house , i use kilin dried logs in a cold snap in summer , chimney swept we service every year shud last forever the nuts and bolts are easily ajusted and tighten oil all the hinges ect ect and fire cement the caps in the plates and hoovered the plates with a bit off messing about go back on easy i love it its my mate
Hi, I have had this model for approx 5 years. I have gone through 4 replacement glasses, and am now desperate for a new grate as mine has burnt through. If anybody knows where I can get one I would be very grateful (no pun intended).
Thanks

But I'm a tree! Looks like someone hasn't seen Lord of the Genitalia Rings
My brother had this exact one a couple of years ago, the heat bent the lags out and made it unstable, the paint flakes off and the whole thing rusted up after a couple of rainy days, not to mention that the exposed sides allowed ash and charred wood dust to blow all over the garden covering us, the dog the ground, the rabbit hutches, pretty much everything was gray and filthy by morning.

Don't bother, get yourself a better fire pit!
