But sadly people on here do say it's terrible and vote cold on a 27" 1920x1080 screen just because they think it's terrible. I'd agree with you that 1440 is preferable, especially for serious use, but for an average user this should be fine especially at this super cheap price.

OK that's fair enough, no issues with that. I think it's more productive to tell people the pros and cons regarding Chromebooks. Here's mine >

Pros:

Very quick boot time, under 10 seconds usually.
Very fast for web browsing. As essentially ChromeOS is a web browser first before anything else
Security
Eventual Google Play Store support see > chromium.org/chr…pps

and > support.google.com/chr…273

Cons:

Skype - there's workarounds. I'm not up to date as to whether it works from Google Play Store
iTunes - techjunkie.com/itu…ok/
I like Chromebooks and have had two. I think the 4GB is close to essential. Ideally, you'd also have a nice HD screen. With that combo they're really good day to day workhorse machines when used properly, i.e. you don't buy a 2Gb option for editing movies for cinema ;-) Heat applied ...

I can't see a reason why your laptop wouldn't do 4K 60Hz over a USB-C to DP cable so... yeah, dodgy adapter maybe? Higher than 1080p requires either thick or short cables to work properly.

Not all USB-C ports support DP alternate mode. Those that do 'video out' …Not all USB-C ports support DP alternate mode. Those that do 'video out' likely use DP (99% chance) but there's also HDMI alternate mode.In your case I'd want to know the make and model of your laptop to know if you have DP alternate mode for sure. Chances are you do, if you look in (windows) device manager, the video adapter section, is the USB hub detected as a USB video adapter? Or does it not exist? If it doesn't exist, it's just passively adapting the DP alt mode signal.USB-C to DP cables are pretty cheap BTW, £7 on amazon

Mini-DP is usually found on business laptops (e.g. Lenovo Thinkpad). This cable allow you to run a monitor or TV as a second screen (with the addition of a standard HDMI lead). These are pretty handy to have if you travel with a laptop and need to plug it into a large TV for presentations.

I have a convertor which supports one dp to three dp to support three …I have a convertor which supports one dp to three dp to support three monitors not just one

If these DP->hdmi adapters are passive, don't expect to be able to plug 3 of them into a DP splitter; depending upon your graphics card, it might not work.
Good price BUT worth noting that if you want to run 4K e.g. use your PC and play PC games on a 4K TV then this adaptor is not suitable as it only does 4K at 30HZ, which would be very juddery in Windows (I know I have used an early 4K 30HZ monitor) and would limit FPS in any games to 30, though that is perhaps less an issue since 4K is so demanding....

gone, gutted. Great bargain!
I’ve done the same with a 32” tv. Built a wooden picture frame around it to make it look more like a picture frame than a tv! Using a raspberry PI to connect to my onedrive account via Kodi. Got the tv connect to my smart home movement sensor so when we enter the room the tv turns on with the pi and starts showing photos after 20seconds. When we leave room it turns everything off automatically after 5mins.
Thanks for the info mugen6

I bought one of the Dell monitors you posted

I'm going to have a go at making a photo frame/slideshow with it so display my photos.

Theory...
Chromecast 2 in the rear via a dvi to hdmi connector.
USB from the monitor will provide the chromecast with power.

Point the chromecast at personal Gmail photo album so that when it goes into sleep/standby it will display selected album.

Monitor is only 20w when on and chromecast is negligible on power draw.

Just one question if I was to put the monitor on a plug timer would the monitor come back to life or would it sit in standby ?

Sometimes you can pick up a 24" P2414h for £60 (some without stands, but Dell stands are about £12 and just clip on easily). Just avoid the Dell E series, stick to the P and U series.

If you want to spend a little more for one of the best quality Dell monitors, then keep an eye out for the U2414h:

ebay.co.uk/itm…359

That one is sold, but they pop up occasionally at that price so worth checking back often. The frameless design is very slick and the Dell Ultrasharp series have been the benchmark for premium monitors for the past decade.
Bought one of these early last year (from CCL) but returned it due to severe backlight bleeding. It was £80 back then and the picture was quite good considering the cost and you wouldn't expect accurate colours for a TN panel anyway. I would've kept it if it weren't for the backlight bleed. I'll say it again, it's really a lottery when it comes to buying monitors.

Mainly in PUBG and AC: Origins when it went dark. This could be a deal breaker for me, as it looked fine normally but when games got dark, its awful.

Highly recommend you try the calibration linked by zed68

I saw horrible ghosting at first when looking at text on youtube in night mode. Vastly improved now.

Mine arrived extremely quick. Stand felt very cheap but cant complain for the price. I haven't noticed any dead pixels and seems good picture. I am yet to try the 2560 x 1440 as I found out I dont have the right cables atm Heads up to others you need a 24+1 pin DVI cable for this res if using DVI.

I have played many games on it and haven't had any issues. Even console games play great.

Anything having problems with getting USB 3 speeds? Pretty sure there are USB 3 ports because of the blue slots but can't find USB3 host controller in the device manager.

Tried to search for new drivers/delete existing so that Windows will locate new ones but to no avail. The Intel 5 /C200 Series doesn't have native support for USB3 so I have find third party drivers if I can work out what make it is.

Thanks for this! Would never have guessed myself. Glad to see there's space for 2.5'' drive inside so i've installed an SSD there and currently cloning the existing drive over. Also looks like it's a standard processor and not soldered to the board. Will have to look into upgrading at some point. CPU-Z stated a free dimm slot but that isn't the case. Only 1 on the board. But there's a mini pci-e card slot free so going to add in a wifi/bt card once it arrives. Hopefully the SSD fixes the issue i've been having because it's a lovely machine otherwise.
Magnets! No wonder it's not obvious....didn't try just pulling it apart!

If I could figure out how to open the damn thing, I could replace it with another msata SSD I have laying around. Atleast then i'd know it's the SSD at fault and not the motherboard or sata chipset. I did find some information about a recall back when these boards came out here. As ours is HM65, I don't think they're affected but I have no way of testing. I've asked itzoo for information on the motherboard or even just info on how to access the internals but no replies. They replied within 10 minutes when I asked for tracking information but haven't replied to any of my messages since I mentioned there was a problem with the pc.
