That's actually pretty interesting. Doesn't mean that they're stopping updates from that date, just that they can't guarantee that there will be OS updates for that particular device after that particular date. I suspect that updates will still continue after that, though it will probably reduce in frequency.

"New software updates may be received later than the AUE date published, but will never be stopped sooner than listed. For Chrome devices this will be at least 6.5 years from launch of the hardware platform(2) (or in some legacy cases at least 5 years launch of the device itself)."

At the end of the day, I don't think it matters too much. In the 4 years that I've owned a Chromebook, only very small incremental changes have been made to ChromeOS so if no more updates come, its not that big a deal because they haven't done much to the OS since launch! (The Android update should be interesting though if they can get it to work).

Not sure who votes on this site ...

Doesn't seem a good deal

2012 chromebook
Dual Core ARM CPU
eMMC storage
updates expire in Oct
newer, faster Intel chromebooks with SSDs can be bought cheaper

This was only ~£220 on release in 2012

Guess no one reads the comments or does any research anymore

edit: just found a pretty good review from 2012

The move to ARM doesn't fundamentally change the performance or usability of the Chromebook. It's still a slow, limited use notebook.
The display is functional but not very good.
the eMMC solution in the Chromebook isn't setting any records,

Nice looking machine but there are better Chromebooks out there for a lower price.
The Acer 720 Chromebook for example can be had for around £70 off Ebay and that has the better performing Haswell generation Celeron.

I had a 720 w/ 4GB and just swapped out the drive. Made an amazing Ubuntu web dev book for about a year before the HD failed.
Auto update expiration date Oct 2017.

It's probably not bad for the price. With a GTX1070 you couldn't use FreeSync anyway.

The LG 27UD58 was recently £300 on Amazon and will no doubt drop back to that or lower sooner or later. It has a rubbish stand and no USB hub, but if those don't matter you could consider that. Being FreeSync-capable it should definitely natively display both 50Hz and 60Hz video.
so if this monitor is bad what is good one to get 32inch or at least 27 for a gtx 1070 thanks for any help with this as ever scoot :)
I don't know the refresh rate of my laptop but it has a 4k screen itself. I do want to use a bluray player though. I don't think freesync is important as I don't game
Depends. I think this is a good price for 27" UHD IPS with height/tilt/pivot stand. The LG 27UD68P is £400 by comparison. If you don't need FreeSync or HDMI 2.0 and will only ever have your PC set to 60Hz refresh rate, this would be fine.
Maybe wait for the LG to come back down then

Excellent and had lots of good comments from others, I personally would not touch a curved screen with a barge pole.
Is you 9000 a flat screen then bud .
Only ones I've seen are curved . Including the 9500 I'm looking at

They didn't make curved screen when I got mine, the difference is in the model number letters not in the model range, i,e, the model range is 7000,8000 and 9000.

When you do finally get your prize optical cable...... dont forget to take the teeny tiny usually clear plastic end caps off before ramming the connector into the socket and wondering why it wont snap into place.
Just sayin.

Got mine today, it seemed to come with adaptors, either that or the ends snapped off :) Not able to confirm refererence hdmi 2.0, only that "High speed hdmi cable" stamped on cable.
Dispatched, with a tracking number too. Woop woop!

I bought one of these a few months ago and am well pleased with it. Don't have the 75hz problem referred to above.
Here's one of the reviews that convinced me to buy it -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MILkocK6-KY

My case was based on if people were planning to use a dual monitor setup like I have done. Didn't make it clear in my post.
zaniro
Be advised this monitor suffers from vertical lines reproduced on blue, green and orange colours. This is especially visible while running at 75hz (with freesync on) on my model.
More users with the same issue:https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/690124-faint-vertical-lines-when-75hz-refresh-rate-on-monitor/
I'd be interested to hear if any of you who buy this monitor experience the same issue. It could well be an isolated issue with a batch of units sold last year.

I have the same issue at 75hz, but it's not particularly noticable and after while you get used it.

Excellent monitor for the price, however this isn't much of a deal as it's been this price for about 6 months and a quick search found it for the same price elsewhere.

Have two of these, been using these for around 4 months. Everything is great so far, although I had one exhibit a more yellower hue which was corrected through the panels colour options so now both are matching.

Since this is Freesync over HDMI, if your card only has 1x HDMI port (like my R9 390) I can confirm that you can use an active DP -> HDMI adapter and then use ATI Pixel Unlocker to unlock the 75Hz option in the Windows refresh rate options.

If anyone has any questions, I'll try my best to answer!
jameshothothot
hot for freesync! trying to find out frequency range.
40-75Hz according to Skinflint
https://skinflint.co.uk/lg-electronics-23mp68vq-p-a1479017.html
But taking the link to LG from there:
http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-23MP68VQ-P
Can't see it mentioned in those specs.

EDIT: but 40-75 on the Freesync monitor list

Hi, I'm in the market for a monitor 22"(or thereabouts). I've just bought a high end system with a Ryzen 1700x and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Graphics Card and need a decent monitor to complement it. I do a bit of gaming with new titles but not a competitive gamer. Suggestions please? Cheers.

Any good for a console?

Not really for PS4 Pro, Xbox One S or Scorpio as they won't output at more than 1080p on this and it's a waste for the current gen for the same reason, unless you're using it for PC as well.

Any good for pc gaming in general? I've got high end graphic card, so I would like to push the graphics to the limit without sacrificing performance to much.

If you want a monitor that'll push your graphics to the limit, do yourself a favour and spend the extra on an IPS panel. I will never use TN again.

You can't go wrong with 1440p, it looks so much better than 1080p and does not have the severe performance hit of 4k. I'd recommend at least a 970/1060 for 1440p gaming though.

If you play a lot of competitive FPS you might want a 144hz monitor, if not this will suit you fine.

Would someone please identify a monitor around 24-28" that will show off a ps4 pro's capabilities!?
Be careful here and make some checks in descriptions as I read that monitors don't yet have HDR capability so you could spend a lot of money on this and miss one of the main features to show off the pro.

Wouldn't touch anything android with only 1gb of ram!
Maybe I'm just cynical but when neither the battery capacity nor the battery life is quoted in the specs for any portable device I tend to give it a body swerve. Been there before too often over the years!
hopefully the quoted weight is with the packaging and the charger, I don't fancy using a 1.5Kg tablet!
better tablets available on ebay for around the same price, reviews aren't exactly glowing either

This tablet is extremely SLOW! The extendable memory feature refused to work with and micro SD card, so the SD card can only be used as external memory.

Was actually quite happy with this until I experienced its incredibly short battery life. I bought it to write on while out and about but it is wholly to inadequate for this task

Also the keyboard does not always work like an English keyboard as some keys do not do what they say they do. It is also quite slow. Disappointed.

I have had many Tablets but never had one as bad as this one when I said it was Slow Ment to say it is the Slowest Tablet I have ever had

Sent it back. Its was very slow and the battery drained over 4 hours from full charge without using it. It also would not download Amazon prime app and struggled to use other apps. so pointless.

I managed to:

- Turn on my laptop
- Log into my Amazon account
- Request a return
- Print off the shipping return label

In the time it took this tablet to open Facebook.
okay price but the 1gb ram is a bit of a let down

You would also have to rely on developers coding efficiently enough to utilise the two gpus inside the pro duo.
This is primarily aimed at developers, it's not good as a gaming card and never has been.
Same thing, the software used have to be coded to utilise the two gpus.

I would definitely go for Nvidia GTX 1080 TI for the same money.
I believe a 1080ti will be the same or beat this in all scenarios for the same/ similar price. Also a 1080ti power consumption is much lower and lower heat output.

Nice card but i'll wait for it to drop a bit more before I bite. Just out of interest is this worth upgrading to from my Asus GTX 970 Strix?

Not really, unless you need the extra VRAM.

Lol @ 3fans, total overkill on a 1060. Even one fan is enough and you don't have to worry about harmonics.

Could be a good idea to check the specification matches the model number of the TV before posting. That could be why it's cold because not a bad price for a 55" Samsung but no doubt the 4k lovers are voting cold as it's a 1080 TV. Great if you can stream in 4k perhaps.
I'm note sure this is as good a deal at the OP suggests, results of a google search follow:
£553.94 · Currys PC World BusinessFree shipping
£549.97 · Appliances Direct
£537.04 · ILGS.net
So, it is just a few pounds cheaper than similar stores, and I have to add that my experiences with CoOp have been all bad.

Got one same or similar to this a few years ago

Good price and well built and not as restrictive in it's movements as some would think

The only issue will be where your tv connections are and the type of cable you have - in most instances you'd be better off with a 90 deg connector tv end to benefit with close to wall fitting
You couldnt just put 15cm in the title like a normal person -.-
Twisted veins?.....sounds like a medical condition......

HI Piteudrica,
Well done you managed to install 14.2 Helix.
This box more to than capable ro play 1080. I have taken it off coz i unbale to get a 720 stream. MX player defaulted play.
MX player works well with Live stream APK.
PM me and work with me. Installed CM 10 JB 4.1 and AKOP JB V4.2.2 ( Roms work still testing)
I guess its not fare to add tech bits here.
Hi Guys,

I have got one box as well and figured out may has not been too bad after all.

I have installed ES File manager (you can move to SD) and removed all bloatware (Box is already rooted)
I agree with ABZY123 suggestion to not sign into google account/playstore
KODI 14.2 helix is running fine but live TV is not great even on SD. (sound is crackling)
I am now searching for any custom ROM and upgrade it to at least Android 4.4 (KitKat)
ZOOSTORM OWNERS
HI People,
I have purchased Zoostrom box.arrived few days ago.
Out of the 4Gb storage.about 1.5 Gb the OS.450meg is the space to install apps. 2Gb is storage.some apps can be moved to this space.
Got some anyyoying 3 apps ECloud share/DLNA/Share.
This keeps prompting to enter a registration code every time the device is booted.Googling the issue and got no fix.Even Zoostorm support dont have a clue.
BTW this box gets shipped out with the orignal ROM, to fix the issue of Ecloud registration, one blog/zoostorm support suggested to update the firmware. which i did . It became a bit more stable. minor bug fixed. but the Ecloud registration still didnt go away.
http://downloads.zoostorm.com/drivers/android/PlayBox/Play.pdf
Firmware
http://downloads.zoostorm.com/drivers/android/PlayBox/Zoostorm_Play_Box.zip

The only fix that got rid of the annoying registration box was to install EShareServer v1.2.2.apk.
http://android-apk.org/apk/com.ecloud.eshare.server/v1.2.2/personalchusmanu/eshareserver/

I have managed to play 1080 content form my USB Hd.and showBox 720P and plays well using its built on android player is the BEST of all.
Tested MX player and ARM codec also works well.
VLC is no go.
I would suggest not to sign into google account/playstore other wise the updates will kill the space.(450meg)
The only stable version of KoDi is 14.2 helix you can install.but it can only play SD content(not good) still working on this.
I am thinking to OverClock the box/still searching if there is custom Rom upgrade to kitkat ( this will fix alot of Apk compitibility parsing issues)
I have not tested PLEX, as i think it will work well through NAS or share PC/server.
Not bad for £15 as i have got it sing but not dance as yet.LOL
let me know if anyone has done any testing to improve the performance.
Hope this helps.

There's enough crap posted on here unwittingly - why add deliberately add more?
It was £14.99 from a established UK seller and might have been of use, I'd rather post these deals that then constant crud from Aliexpress, Bangood and such like, non of which contributes to the UK economy.

Anyhoo I fully expected it to go down like a cup of cold sick so it's no surprise, my apologies if it wasted a second of your time having to add your comment.

worked a treat for my 55 incher
need to do the same, but how do you locate the wooden plinths?

1st of all. just, look for any imperfections as in nail head blemishes on the plaster, this might give you a clue

Then, use a Cable/Metal detector to pin point where the nails are

And thirdly, just knock on the wall and you will hear a change in tone

be careful where you drill, try using a bradall 1st to test (by hand)

Some mounts are too slim to enable access for some hdmi cables so what I did was fix an old 2cm thick shelf flat to the wall (using plasterboard fixings and straight through the joists) then fixed mt slim mount to this (screw straight through the wood)

It takes my 55 incher no problem, after all, can't give the missus anything to complain about can I !

Over a month since purchase and still no adaptor, and no communication from CPC at all. Shocking company.
Same here, no contact at all yet. Still, my last order like this from CPC was some garden lights which eventually arrived after I had completely forgotten about them.

Hi, sorry about this but all the orders will have been long since fulfilled, everyone not getting one should have been contacted some time ago as well. If you email [email protected] with the order reference we can look into why you have not been contacted.

Wow CPC really are a shady company. I reported my experience with CPC (both this one and my previous order with them) and they reported me to trustpilot for faking it. So my trustpilot review has been removed.

We flagged the Trustpilot review as it had no order reference for us to validate the feedback against. This is Trustpilot's policy - if you provide them the details then it will be added to the review and come back online.

Kind regards.

Are these any better than a Wii (soft modded) for retro gaming? I was going to get one but would of cost around £50 for everything to get up and running (micro usb, power cable, case, controller). So instead I bought a Wii and soft modded it. But am having issues putting emulator's on it.
Raspberry Pi 2 vs Wii for Emulation?

Thanks

I'm not sure this has Freesync you know. It's says 'no' next to Freesync in the spec list
Any idea what the Freesync range is? At 4k this will be crucial to a nice experience.

What are ElectriQ like? Never heard of them.

I came across them a few months ago and looked them up; the reviews (mostly US), werent very good, and reliability issues were the main reason.
Not specific for this model though, I dont remember seeing this particular model at all, so it might be new to the market.

It's a uk brand. Really good quality & great value
Looks really nice for people who have the means to drive this especially for gaming, that Freesync is defo a hot from me also I guess it will be good for people moving on to the new amd flagship card when it comes out.

Never said that. They released what they said they would. That's all.
They did, but you can say that about every single piece of software that has ever been released in existence lol. You were arguing its uses, but my original point was that every other OS is superior. Visual Studio can emulate the Pi, its much quicker to develop that way. It was a disappointing release, but to be fair you never realized there were open alternatives.
You have completely missed the point.

Well, my point is Windows IoT isn't useful enough to install on a memory card.

But it is quite expensive in comparison to the pi or other variants like, banna pi or pi zreo

The aim of the Pi is to keep it as cheap as possible, the spec on this alone bumps the price up so it's obviously going to be more expensive than the Pi, if memory serves some source code wasn't publicly available purely to keep the cost down.

Bought a RPi3 and USB gigabit LAN adapter last week, wish I'd waited now

I wouldn't. The sheer amount of community backing and the nature of establishment wins it for me.

True but even the RPi community doesn't show up much help with the gigabit USB adapter that seems to stop working after a reboot

Nice edit btw, I guess you found your open alternative through Google lol.
Thanks.
On that note lets just say if you think Windows 10 IoT is fit for purpose then that is completely your opinion lol.
