I went into Waitrose today and to be honest didn't find the deal very good. The 3 sides were very limited mainly rice and tiny savoury items. Some of the sides I would of wanted didn't have the sides stickers so assume they weren't included. By the looks of it the normal price would be about £14 maximum for 2 main items and 3 sides. I tend to like to do my own rice which is far cheaper and couldn't find any decent side dishes apart from that so left it. Wasn't impressed with the selection of mains either. I just didn't want to pay effectively £2 for 3 of the crappy little side dishes. In fairness they could have been missing a few side options but every section seemed to be filled by an item so not sure about this.

I think the till operator almost applauded me as my items came to £30.01 after the paper, coffee and other mywaitrose items were discounted which was spot on for my £6 off £30 voucher. She must of thought I was a maths genius or something as had many small reduced items and other odd price items.
None of these supermarket offerings are what could be called ‘authentic’ but the WItrose one is far better than the M@S range in my opinion
I have taken the chinese meal "taste of the east" for £6 in Waitrose: you choose the noodles, the sauce, the vegetable's packet and meat or fish. The steak stir fry strips with black bean sauce were amazing.
I've currently got £6 off £30 vouchers and I have to allow for the paper, coffee and anything else being deducted so the final price is over £30 to use them.

Haha! 40 years as a Chinese person and I never knew. I stand corrected.

I'm truly a 'banana'..... (then again, my first language is English.)

And there's one song that plays Every year about him too. Groan. At least I won't embarrass myself to my family and friends about his name now!

I'm general M&S need to be doing all they can to attract customers, with several shops closing down including ones in cities like Durham it must be hard times for them. Their food is only thing I buy in there, seems to be more and more people becoming vegan too, I hear more becoming vegan than vegetarian so they should be doing better options.

Waitrose deal is 2 mains and 3 sides for all people

Just been to Waitrose.. they've changed it.. "only stickered items" but virtually NOTHING was stickered. The two veggie curries (the decent quality kofta balls and the poor quality veg masala) weren't involved (they were previously.. tried scanning wasn't just missing labels) and no chinese veggie option...

Poor show..

Roast aubergine as the vegetarian option...really.

M&S are always lousy for vegetarians when it comes to these sorts of deals. They seem behind the times, whilst even Tesco are offering a vegan range. Some of their vegetarian ready meals are really unhealthy too, 15g saturated fat in the Mushroom Pappardelle. I rarely shop their now. It's even more of a joke as there are plenty of authentic Chinese and Indian vegetarian dishes they could have gone with, but apparently they want to reduce sales.
I had the aubergine on its own, not as a part of the deal, today. I didn't go for the deal because the aubergine was a tray divided in two with one half rice and one half aubergine, the other sides were rice or noodles so if I'd gone for the offer I would have had two halves of a dish, then loads of rice or noodles!

To get value for money the vegetarians should have a full dish, not half a dish padded out with half a tray of,low-quality rice. All the other mains for meat-eaters are full dishes.

Re: the aubergine. It is an attempt at 'yu xiang qie zi', I think they could have got closer to the original dish as most people seem to like it. I would also pad it out with tofu strips (not authentic), and the aubergine pieces are too large, it should be strips not massive hunks.

I'm really disappointed in M&S veggie options recently, I think they could do mixed vegetables fried noodles (noodles with greens, garlic etc.) as a side, proper veggie dumplings (not edamame), and a full dish of 'yu xiang qie zi', maybe with extra tofu strips and/or green peppers. Just dreaming here! But it's not difficult.

Anyway, thanks to the OP as this is good if you can take full advantage. Sorry to hijack your thread for a veggie-rant. I think the things I suggested would be popular with meat-eaters too, though.

The concerns raised by sblmbbare sound. Non stick coatings when overheated …The concerns raised by sblmbbare sound. Non stick coatings when overheated will release a number of chemicals that are extremely toxic. This has not only been proven by independent testing but is also acknowledged by the manufacturers of the coatings, including Dupont responsible for the Teflon brand. The important thing to note is that this is only said to occur when the coating is overheated. Not during normal use. Sources dissagree on the exact temperature, but most manufacturers advise not going over 500 degrees f during normal use.Do you measure the temp of your wok in use? I don't.I wont be avoiding non stick goods in the future, however I will say that assuming that any company is looking out for me, rather than focussing on lowering costs and making a profit, would be extremely naive.

This is so true. My local paper is full of stories of people becoming overcome by toxic fumes whilst making a bit of stir fry.
It's right up there as one of the nations biggest killers.

Yup, noticed that M&S are very bad in catering for veggies and even as a pescatarian I often struggle to find anything in the meal deals. Considering when eating in east Asia veggie options are often the most common it's a shame.

Not from my experience. I worked at a few Chinese takeaways before. Meats …Not from my experience. I worked at a few Chinese takeaways before. Meats can be marinated before hand, some meat products are cooked to make other products such as "Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls" but a lot of the meat will be cooked on the day and then used in dishes thorough out the day. Reheating is a health hazards as well as a breech of hygiene within a takeaway kitchen. Rice is never precooked and is always fresh on the day or at the time of order. Same goes for noodles.

Tell me what breach of hygiene legislation it is, exactly? Rice never precooked? Hahaha!
The relative hygiene ratings of specific takeaways don’t really change the fact that a freshly prepped takeaway from a decent establishment is going to be better than this. Indian and Chinese/Cantonese takeaways pre cook much of their meat, pre-cook the rice for given dishes in advance and have sauces ready prepared for each dish so that each particular order can be assembled as quickly as possible - there is no way around this, unless you want your Indian takeaway to spend three hours slow cooking your lamb so that it doesn’t taste like the bottom of a shoe; and egg fried rice IS made from cold, pre-cooked rice - it doesn’t work properly with hot rice as the starting point. As long as rice is cooked, cooled and stored properly it is perfectly safe to pre cook.

Despite this, the vegetables are cooked fresh and the battered elements will taste better as they won’t have been sat around in a sealed plastic container for a week. Ever wondered why a supermarket samosa tastes nothing like a takeaway one? It’s because they have to use a different type of pastry to remedy the fact that it needs storing away in a sealed package.

Still a good deal, mind. I’ll be having mine later but I’ll have some MSG and salt on the side to make it a bit tastier

There's a Question posted on there a few days ago too (about the Horsky/E-Blue K737 keyboard Spark mentioned amazon.co.uk/gp/…S77 ):

What brand are the switches?
asked by George R. on 24 May 2017

Hi,
Please be informed that the switches is manufactured by XINDA, one of main (keyboard switch) manufacturers in China.
Horsky Official SELLER answered on 25 May 2017

There's a review here of a keyboard (not the same one) that uses Xinda switches http://www.jayceooi.com/granvela-z-77-keyboard-review/

This MANSHE K800 Keyboard seems almost-identical to the Horsky Keyboard (slightly different shape of metal base) and has reviews, also Xinda switches https://www.amazon.com/Multicolor-Mechanical-Keyboard-Switches-Replaceable/dp/B01MZAPVGF

One review of the MANSHE (nice name, fnar) says: "The switches are Xinda and they are lighter than other budget keys like Outemu and Kailh. They can be changed and this keyboard includes a key-cap/switch remover so that you can put other switches in that you prefer. Cherry MX, Kailh, Outemu and other brands should be able to fit in this board."

I'd never heard of Xinda so can only go by what I'm seeing from reviews. This reviewer makes a passing comment on them http://www.gamingclarity.com/keyboard-reviews/mechanicaleagle-z-77/

"Xinda switches...are a cheaper MX knockoff that has been phased out in budget boards...I haven’t used Xinda switches and can’t comment on them."

I lived in Canada a few years ago so The Source used to be one of my go to places when we needed a pair of headphones or a USB drive etc.

The first thing Corsair wanted was a copy of the invoice and mine is dated 2014 so I doubt they're going to jump at providing a replacement to me tbh. I'm not sure that it's the no-name keyboards that are the problem on here, it's the US layout. A lot of people are really attached to the UK format and after using an American keyboard at work for quite a while, I can definitely sympathise.

£56.30 now, it appears
Just 8GB ? There were some models posted some weeks ago sporting 16GB if I'm not mistaken.

Looks good otherwise.

Why not just call it hexa-core instead of this long winded dual core+quad core?

Xiaomi partnered with Google in the development of this box; in fact … Xiaomi partnered with Google in the development of this box; in fact Xiaomi presented the box at the recent Google I/O, so I'm surprised it doesn't come out of the box with the Play store. Xiaomi still sells most of its products within China/ SE Asia (granted they're starting to reach out to to the West) hence English/ International ROMs are not a priority, yet. This has the potential to be a killer box once a good International ROM with Google Play is available. The lack of Ethernet is a surprise, but a good wifi antenna implementation as in the Fire Box (as opposed to the Fire Stick!!) should mitigate that somewhat. http://www.theverge.com/2016/5/18/11704964/new-google-chromecast-Android-TV-partners-Xiaomi-Sony-Toshiba-4K

Does this Gearbest Xiaomi offering have the same specs as the not-yet-released US Mi Box?

Interesting anyway Thanks

Once these suppliers get a foothold and create/improve their European operations, then I wouldn't risk being a shareholder in the more established brands.

Been waiting for that for years now. Have come to realise that our snotty nosed public will always be influenced by flashy ads instead of using their heads.
Camera pics and video looks really poor to me, would have gone for it otherwise

Reviews of sorts for those interested. … Reviews of sorts for those interested. http://www.xiaomitoday.com/vernee-thor-review/http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2016/05/20/vernee-thor-review/Dreadful cameras, not good with high end games despite the spec but given the price and the rest of the features it looks half decent. I bought a Leagoo Lead 5 for the same price and far less spec and its still flying along with no issues whatsoever so taking a risk with these unknown Chinese brands can be extremely cost saving. Reviews also mention no bloatware which is a bonus.

The xiaomitoday review is in the very first post (Post #1) The reviews do look good, though haven't seen that bad feedback about the cameras. Sometimes a bit washed out, depending on what you focus on, but detailing is good (see 7:15 here youtu.be/Yhu…435 ). The xiaomitoday link's picture thumbnails look rubbish but they're actually pretty decent when you click on them for a close-up view.
