Give it a few months and it will be a £30 brick. Issues with the 5x and 6P boot looping caused a law suit in the US.

This is still available...anyways..LG must've been browsing through this thread!

I had a G4 that developed a solder fault just outside of warranty. It wasn't actually the bootloop issue, but because of the bootloop issue there was essentially no second hand market for faulty G4s. Only time I've ever had to straight up ditch a flagship phone that still looked new. I spent quite a lot on the G4 because I had to return an overheating G3 and took the opportunity to upgrade. Two flaws in a row, and they're done for life.

Yeah I had a G4 that bootlooped. Fortunately it was within warranty still and LG fixed it within about a week (replaced the mainboard). But I hear others weren't so lucky... The lack of software updates however just shows me LG dont give 2 hoots about supporting their existing customers.

android is so strange in this regard, Imagine if computers stopped being updated after 2 years, windows 7 stopped being supported this year, 11 years after being released and even then everyone got a free upgrade to windows 10. iphones seem to get around 5 years support. I think android needs to change to allow updating without the manufacturer having to get involved but they probably don't want to do that, giving people more reasons to upgrade every 2 years is good for their buisness.

They really screwed up on the G4 issues. Didn't honour our warranty, lost £560. Lost me and many others as a customer. Sadly never an LG for me.

Well my g6 is well over 2 years old and running better than new, especially the battery . great price

Yes, thanks indeed - heat of course added - at this price even if it is used as a satnav/in-car audio unit or an "Android Other" phone to recycle towards a Samsung at one point it'll not be a great loss. It'll also be nice to finally dispense with the last of the micro USB handsets that I've got kicking around and put this in it's place.

Mine arrived on Friday and seemed to take most of the day to get to the final Nov 2019 update with Andriod 9. Battery life seems fine after a few cycles and agree that this is an absolute bargain. Registering with LG provides 2 years warranty for peace of mind. I'm impressed, DAC is superb and camera quality OK, but I prefer the LG design so it looks like I'll be keeping this and selling my P20 Pro.

Yea i know what you mean.. I usually swap phones like crazy but since the note 9 its very hard to change to a device with everything this has...

Samsung have really improved on patch updates. I had the Note 4 then stayed away until Note 9, and now Note 10+ 5G. And to be fair the Note 9 is great phone, probably their best Note. I miss the led notification, headphone jack, the back fingerprint reader.

Thanks bro.. Need a good quality ffc for video s guess sticking with note 9...such a great phone so gard to replace (lol)

I bought this. No quad dac. This is a European model. It states on the uk website that the uk model has a quad dac so maybe its a software thing and the uk firmware needs to be flashed onto this? Sound is fine otherwise. Camera is good. Very comfortable to hold and use. Super responsive. Nice screen. Doesn't overheat. Battery life is awesome so far. 70pc in the morning and after moderate use I was down to 40 pc in the evening. Much better than my S20+ which I'm going to return to Samsung. Overall, highly recommend this phone - really good value! Oh and I got the dual SIM version

Any issues with the battery here? I have an LGG5 and the battery life was v poor

Have to agree. Some of it is attributed to their non-existing firmware updates which for other brands is around twice a year but for LG is once in 2 years! I was keen on Xperia 1 Mark 2 but it seems too expensive. Xperia 1 Mark 1 is almost exactly same as LG G8s thinQ..only pricier

Yes seems so. And the dac is still good, just not incredible. I had a g8 and enjoyed it, LGs are criminally underrated

Even this model on sale here seems to be an import version from the EU. I have been wanting to buy an LG G8s from csmobiles or movertix for around £320+ but now its available on amazon UK for the same price. Most reviews seem to be from Germany as well which implies this could be an EU model. One of the Q&A in the review section also mentions it to be Dual SIM version which means this is definitely an EU import - so a better buy than the UK version.

Well the 3 year old benchmarks say better and 3 years worth of optimisations ( 2 max in LGs case) means overall performance should be even better. Current benchmarks vastly inflate current scores with the 865 score being twice that of the 835 without producing twice the performance. So I would imagine real life performance of mid-ranger chips not being as close as benchmarks suggest. On efficiency, the newer midrange chips still produce less processing power so they will use less battery on light weight activities. You can never get more from an inferior SOC but you can certainly turn down the wick on a superior chip to get more battery life. The marquee brands are just that and it takes years to remove them. Most non techies have never heard of: Xiaomi OPPO OnePlus Realme Etc They don't even know Google make phones Nokia, Motorola and HTC would mean more to most over 30 years old.

They won't. Different level of performance between them. Battery life I agree and software support I agree too. I hardly ever update the software as it fixes some things and breaks other things. I am happy being on nougat for years now. What have I missed? And what 'security' patches are there? Bluetooth as technology is cracked and there is no security patch to it. And if you careless and lazy to use NFC to make payments, keep in mind no security' patches will ever make it safe. LG v30 is a very capable mobile with great camera, great sound system and excellent screen and performance. If this was dual SIM I would be all over this.

Benchmarks aren’t everything. Yes raw performance will be “better” but it needs significantly more power to achieve that - modern processors are simply more efficient. A 665 is only ~20% weaker anyway. I wouldn’t exactly call LG prestigious (lol) maybe in the same way that HTC still is, but nobody cares for them outside of home appliances really.

Only the SD765 up of the Qualcomms is better in terms of performance, so most most midrangers will not have better performance. This is going by non updates 3 year old benchmarks for the SD835. You are right on the software side though as it is 2017 device, but there is custom rom support so for some this could be a very good buy. And then there is prestige the likes of Samsung , Apple, LG and Sony are still the marquee brands for most, especially in the UK.

That's the same seller actually, not currently allowed on hukd because of feedback, but good to have this comment here for those that prefer amazon.

Ohhh just read there are some differences between the LG G8 and this G8S that is being sold, took the below from Wikipedia : “LG G8s ThinQ The LG G8s ThinQ was released in select markets in Europe, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East in July 2019. Visually, the G8s is differentiated from the G8 by a larger notch and more color options. It uses the same chipset as the G8 while having slower charging (18W compared to 21W on the G8 ) a marginally larger 3550mAh battery and a 64 GB model. The display is larger at 6.21 inches, but is 1080p (1080 × 2248.) The G8s has a triple camera setup in all markets, but the camera sees some slight downgrades in terms of aperture and focal length while having a lower resolution ultrawide sensor. The G8s has stereo speakers like the G8, but lacks the G8’s Crystal Sound technology.”

This is an excellent price... Only released last year, while it was a phone that received pretty poor reviews, this was just due to the lack of innovation. LG make excellent and very solid phones, it will be a great all-rounder, but just lack any stand out feature unlike many flagship phones

I just tried another one of the Zenfone 4 Pro phones i bought, it was running android 7, no updates downloaded and would not accept dual sim either,in fact there was nothing at all in the menu reference dual sim .

just occurred to me as it is obviously flashed with vodaphone software maybe one of the sims has to be from them? or possibly the update detected it had moved to uk where dual sim is frowned upon by networks maybe if it had been activated/updated back in italy where it appears they are from it would have loaded the dual sim firmware?

I received mine today, absolutely no complaints, I'm very happy with my purchase. If anyone is looking for a case, I can highly recommend the black OtterBox Symmetry case, they can be bought off eBay for a tenner and they're excellent.

18 software updates later ! Including the latest one on the 23 May (nice to see LG still updating this phone) and also android 9 pie updated ! Its crazy the way you have to download everything in order instead of the phone just doing one huge download like apple would do . Anyway all set up for the mother dragon in law !

The mate 20 pro has a huge battery and the best camera I've used to date (only bested by the very latest and greatest on paper). Screen is also superb. Incidentally its also the first phone I've ever managed to get along with auto brightness on too. I did used to love the software element of the LGs though and like you say, if you're after a headphone jack/dac and expandable memory...

I know what you mean!. But battery can still be replaced, audio jack with amp/dac, amazing screen and amongst the best cameras I've seen in that cohort of phones compared to the mate 20 pro. That's not an indictment of the mate 20 pro, its just that the g7 sets the bar so high for such a low price. Also forgot .. standard SD card.

Why do you prefer the LG? Asking out of interest. I've had a G2, G4 and a G6 in the past but not in love with the newer LGs. They're a bit meh for me..

Got my son a mate 20 pro on the O2 refresh deal. I agree the phone is a absolute Stormer but the lg g7 for me everytime.

Ok, let's say that all units have this problem. I am aware of the problem being discussed, and I have never noticed it. If I had listened to you or these reviewers without owning it, I would have thought the screen is bad. I ve had it two years, not a week. Regarding "perfection", thats a smart way to avoid the real debate: LG flagship phones have a bad reputation they don't always deserve. Its a good thing for me, though: I can buy excellent phones at low midrange prices. Sure, if I were to choose btw a V50 and a Note 10 plus, I d go for the Note 10.

"My subjective opinion trumps objective facts!" All p-oled displays were subject to issues like off-axis color shifting, black crush & smearing. It's a facet of the technology used, which is why it also affected phones like the pixel 2. You can like the phone without pretending it's perfect. And you can say "I didn't notice X,Y,Z because it's unimportant to me" rather than "X,Y,Z can't have existed because I didn't notice it!"

I have no such problems and neither many other reviewers who did long term reviews. I heard of a problem regarding uniformity in lighting, which I don't have either. And either this reviewer had a bad unut, ir he is just plain dishonest.

That's nothing compared to the piles I'm wrestling with from spending so much time hunched over the laptop and the ipad trying to do the comparisons and the.... aaaaaaaagh.

You will get a lot of phone for your money, however US carrier locked phones are like how they use to be here in the UK 3-4 years ago.... You will need to live with the Verizon splash screens on start up and power off, possibly their logo on the body of the phone and also their own cr*p bundled bloatware which probably can't be uninstalled. Verizon also have final say if the phone get updated, as and when LG offer the updates. The specs are great for a new phone for this price and LG Camera's while never usually class leading, are usually extremely good.

G8 variant sold in this country, G8S ThinQ, was first LG with great battery life. V50 finally upped battery size to now-normal 4,000 mAh (From Android Pit & Notebook Check)

Yeah the G2 was a great phone, mine is still running in the draw after many years as an emergency device by many of the family. I still have the V20 too, but LG's software support was slow, Ultra slow and it wouldn't take much of an improvement to be better.

ANDROID 10? (lol) (lol) (lol) (lol)

Well i have been buying LG phones since 2012 and the only real downside i have found is the battery life as the G6 to the G8 for example are all rated around 70+ hours so i always ended up charging them in the day with a portable power pack. While as my Oppo reno 10x zoom & redmi note 7 run for 100 + hours and last all day without a charge. https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8466&idPhone2=9115&idPhone3=9540

Trying to understand why this is a remarkable £303 yet 64GB single sim version is £400. Is that because this is EU version, the other UK? :/

So I have the + version with extra storage and RAM. And I would still barely recommend the phone. It's fine for the most part, and i've been with LG since the G2. But their slow updates and more and more questionable decisions has put me off. The battery life is managable with low usage, but I always find myself charging it at work But at this price it's probably worth it...

Heat for finding and sharing..but with battery at only 3000 may it's a no from me

Would go for previously posted LG G8s by MrSwitch offers much better value with Snap 855 & bigger internal memory if you can afford the extra.

I don't think these have the full UK radio band support. For that get the 64gb UK/EU version.

Didn't realise. That's a backwards step. Of course these phone manufacturers want people to throw away perfectly good phones just because the battery has died. Imagine chucking a TV out because the remote had packed in or replacing a car because the battery charge had gone.

The g6 onwards don't have it.. in fact the new ones are glued in!. Check out the jerryrig video on it. I have a g7 and mine was well and proper glued on with the glue strip. I'm tempted. I read the faq but has anyone had experience of buying a phone from them? Customs charges? Cheers.

Personaly i have been buying LG phones on and off since 2012 and the worse thing you find about them is the battery, they will easily loose 10-15% each night if you dont charge them which shows there battery saving settings are inadequate for the job. Apart from that just buy them when they hit rock bottom in price and you will get a great bargain.

Looks like the V50 has a 400mah battery....... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000411363352.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.12905ac6CuLtHQ&algo_pvid=45602ba4-94b1-434e-85e6-4c4f4b03b6d7&algo_expid=45602ba4-94b1-434e-85e6-4c4f4b03b6d7-0&btsid=84d4e4c1-d544-4660-abd4-e185ccadef00&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_1,searchweb201603_53 Might be worth the extra ££'s. As far as I can see its the same phone, except it's 5g, bigger battery and a processor upgrade. Proably worth the extra £70.

LG phones were a great alternative to Samsung at a much better price. But they lost the plot a couple of years ago with underwhelming cameras and low capacity battery. LG V40 would have been fantastic with a 4000MH battery

Im so tempted by an LG, as i loved my G2, but no Paypal is a worry. And ive no Credit Card so maybe a risk.
