I love LG phones and nearly brought the LG G6 but LG phones have a really bad history of faulty hardware and they are very poor on updating software and security updates. When they work the phones are great.

craigmeikle

Good point but unlikely from amazon.. Mine was manufactured 2 months ago.

Woody0207

Great phone but watch out for potential screen issues with -09/2017 manufacture dates

craigmeikle

Blind tested audio of Samsung a50 with dolby atmos and this phone with its dac and the difference is amazing. Rich punctuated bass and extra detail. A50 got sent back quick style.

I've been using this phone since it's release in December 17. Most reliable phone I've ever owned. I am not even going to upgrade this year.

Yep, amazings. Maybe a little quieter, but full volume is still loud enough.

mcrobbj

Be good to know how it compares for music.

juniorelvis

Just bought as a replacement for my Axon 7 :)

I am not sure why they dont push the DAC a bit more, it gets review up there with dedicated music players costing hundreds more. This is or a successor is definately on my list when my Axon 7 gives up.

Hi, this is a relatively old phone? I don't understand how this compares to some of the Xiaomi/Honor phones I've seen at this price point.

Appalling is an understatement. I've been fortunate to be able to buy flagship phones every year for a decade. Getting harder and harder for the past 2-3 years due to choice and spec each handset hits now. Got the LG V30+ a year ago and got Note 9 but the LG has to be my fav. Phone to date. The selfie camera tho, my Lord, it's like they forgot all ABT it! Bought strictly for the DAC, looking at LG V40 but the price is unrealistic. Will upgrade when the price drops like a rock. Waiting for the Mate 20 X to drop to £600 to be rid of Samsung once and for all. Note 9 is superb but I've been on Notes from the 1st one

playstak

Damn that's good value. Is getting hard to justify high prices with phones but then see things like the mate 20 X and I can't hold the trigger (:I

Received the V30+ today thought it would be nice to provide some feedback. Was positively surprised to see that it was the ThinQ version with some B&O basic earphones included.. They're much better than the ordinary LG not bad but am used to better ones. It streams Tidal Master tracks alright and the audio is great. Great clarity and neutral reproduction. The screen is an a nice Amoled with its pros and cons. Did several OTA updates and currently running Android 8.0. Very positive first impressions.

PYLK

I recommend these guys... Bought many different parts from them over the years. Never had a problem. All batteries are OEM though. Ebay can be ok but don't remember the seller now. https://www.replacebase.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?cat=0&q=Lg+g5

taz002dev

Hi. Great Feedback. Which batteries did you go for? I think mine is a O2 one H850 and i can’t force the update so far. Another one. Can you recommend a battery from a specific ebay seller? I keep hearing The amazon ones sold by LG are catalogued as fakes? Thanks

PYLK

My G5 got the official upgrade and running Android 8.0 two months ago, very similar to the G7. Battery life improved with the upgrade. Have the DAC and bought 2 extra OEM batteries from Ebay. The modular DAC is energy hungry and has some limitations. However crazy value for money at current price levels (bought another 2!!!). Swap the batteries during the day and it's just fine for another 2 years for an average user. Still i just recently bought the V30+ (better sound, more storage, better battery, dual sim, bigger screen). No major problems reported after a year or so in the market! Worth the upgrade imo and it will eventually get Android 9.

I've had a V20 for quite a while now. I've only had a couple of issues. The worst was just a couple of weeks ago. My phone had obviously rebooted itself and was asking for the pin, but it didn't like the pin that I've used for decades, and so I had to reset the whole thing. Don't know what happened there, it seems fine now - touch wood. The update to Oreo took ages to come through, when other V20 variants had had it for months. And I suspect reception is now not as good as it was, not sure if that is update related, the network, or just the phone is getting on a bit. I'm looking to change, but it says a lot about my satisfaction with LG that I will probably buy another LG model. I might wait for the V40 to come down in price.

We're in the UK, no wireless charging apparently. 1 metre compared to 1.5 metres doesn't really make a difference, and unlimited photo and video backup should help replace a Micro SD. Besides, they're really old technology. A better water resistance, or a better camera, battery, performance, design, software and updates.

Woody0207

Just to add - No MicroSD card slot, IP67 instead of IP68 and no wireless charging on the XL as well

alastair_hardisty

Yeah, it's £369 now from there for "good". CEX describe grade A as pristine, but I'm in the process of sending back a Mate 10 Pro which has a bezel scuff that they missed. That was a good deal though at £275. Have ordered again to see what they send this time...

On paper doesn't look like it G6 vs V30 but the V30 uses the newer chip and is the proper 2017 flagship (G6 had to make do with last year's chip as Samsung took the 1st batches). Size only slightly larger and POLED which are about 2 generations behind Samsung if you get a good one!

Cameras have improved to the point where budget cameras can match the '5. A number of flagships and former flagships can seriously beat it. Battery life has improved massively on average too. Processing grunt has improved too, a lot. Your post just doesn't hold water any better than a cheese grater... Phones that could beat this at £280 let alone at the current equivalent price include (and most by a long way too): Samsung A5 2017/A8 2018 LG G6 Google Pixel/Pixel XL Moto G6 Plus Nokia 8/7 Plus HTC U11 if you get a bargain Huawei Nexus 6p/LG Nexus 5x Several Sony phones...

Zorciarr

As a former Nexus 5 owner, performance has been very impressive on current flagships. The camera on the V30 isn't on par with 2017 flagships, but is by no means awful, and definitely not 5 years out of date. The Nexus 5 may be able to compete with nowadays budget devices, but only the lower ones of those. The 5x, for instance, is around £100, quite cheaper than most budget devices (£120-£200) and significantly better than the Nexus 5. The Mi A2 Lite, for another example, also beats the Nexus 5 at a very low price, also promising quick and many updates. Screen technology has improved with AMOLED and the resolution had grown. Although the Nexus 5 was, and is still, a great smartphone, it's unable to compete with budget devices, let alone flagships.

h789

Like what? There are phones from 2012 that have better cameras than the V30 (see some of the Nokia). And many would say the G4 has a better camera too. Processors are obviously different but the change isn't that impressive or needed. The only big change has been water resistance.

jazzuk777

No you really didn't. Just about everything has come on a long way since 2013... It is as good as some of the budget phones, but you could definitely buy something better right now for £280, much less a flagship phone.
