2gb of ram for £120 seems a little steep.

Failing that you could choose an older flagship like the pixel 2 xl etc.

(lol) All round best phone new is the mi 9t standard in my opinion, its possibly the best bang for buck phone that has come out this year, includes fast charge and stellar battery life, with a better than average camera.

Ps also include a good battery life with quick charge, don’t want much a (lol) (lol) (lol)

Hi Mr Switch, in your opinion what is the best value phone out there if you are looking at camera and speed being the main items not a big phone game player. This is across any price spectrum. Thanks in advance.

Yep, love my P2, but have never had a software/security update (thanks Three). What about the Mate 20 X? Actual battery life isn't quite as good as the P2 apparently, but it is still supposed to be pretty good. Specs are obviously great too (not a downgrade like the Moto G7 Power), but price is double. Also tried the A70 - good battery life, but fingerprint sensor is unusable imo.

No worries, here to help. I'd go for this, if not to your needs then you can always return but I think you'll like it

Appreciate the detailed input. Many thanks. I broke my Lenovo p2 screen and recently got boot up issues so had to do factory reset. No p3 so I'll most likely go for this.

Right I've tried higher tier earphones - in which the volume buttons only work on iOS but the pause button works on all devices. These earphones sounded fine, no problems, clear sound and the pause button worked. Holding pause button opened Google assistant. Middle tier earphones - worked fine - android compatible so volume up/down buttons worked fine as well as pause button. Sounded as they should, just like above. Holding pause button opened Google assistant. Lower tier headphones - decent headphones but on the cheaper side. Sounded fine, again as they should no issues. These don't have any buttons so couldn't test those. Also since this device is USB-C, I tried with an Apple adapter and it worked fine with buttons and all using the android compat earphones. Sound is much quieter but it's like that with also a Samsung phone I've tried. I wouldn't use this since the phone has an earphone jack but just to put it out there. Concluding, iOS only compat earphones worked as they should as well as android compat ones with no issues - so practically any earphones/headphones should work as normal, even if they don't have buttons. So pretty much plug and play. All earphones tested are non-motorola and different brands with different comparability. Shouldn't be an issue at all whichever earphones/headphones you decide to use. This is the PAE90034GB model with dual SIM and SD on the latest Android 9, PPO29.114-134, June 2019 patch. My device manufacture date is 14/02/19 Maybe it was an issue but to be honest, the earphone port has been around for donkeys years and it's all one basic standard so I'm pretty sure it was just a software issue. Can't see it being a hardware problem for such a basic component. If you're looking to purchase, I'd go ahead. I've been thoroughly impressed at this price point comparing it to other Samsung 'A' series equivalent devices. This is much superior in all departments imo.

Thanks so much for your time and clarification and time!

All OOS.

@MrSwitch the XA2 is definitely worth a consideration over the G6 at the tiny price difference - it sports a 630 CPU over the G6 4-series. Camera could probably handle the GCAM app too, but 23MP is not bad if the Sony software doesn't mess it up too much.

And back again - it came back very quick, but the port flexed still rather alarmingly so I've sent it back a second time... could see it breaking again quite quickly but just out of warranty :(

I'm merely suggesting to others a phone I'm rather pleased with which can found for less than this one, albeit with less storage (but with a micro SD slot) but with more oomph and a better screen. I do indeed wish I got more than a day from the Sony XD

Loads of "better" phones than this......there are also other versions other versions of the G7 which are more powerful with a better screen. This one though is aimed squarely at people for who battery life is one of the main criteria (I'm one of them). If speed, photography and resolution are the priority for others fair enough but this phone isn't aimed at them. In the case of the G7 Power the lower screen resolution should also help to drag even more life out of the battery. Each to their own but it would be better to compare this with others in this space like the Asus Pro M1 and the older Lenovo P2A42. Mine is replacing the latter - main advantage is 2 SIMs + SD card (P2 is 2 SIMs or 1 SIM + SD). Main drawback is not 5G Wifi. All three are good phones of their type. As a side note a shame some of the flagships don't have bigger-battery versions - I for one don't mind the extra bulk/weight if it runs and runs.

Ah OK I didn't think there was a UK dual-SIM version - if there is then happy days!

Got one yesterday, took it back after three hours of annoyance. It behaves like a petulant child as soon as I started setting it up. Boot loops on a brand new phone, not good.

Pricedrop for G7 Power is back again Claim £5 cashback from Quidco

Nearly bought this for my wife. However checked the specs carefully. This phone doesn't have 5GHz Wifi connection. This is a deal breaker. Her 5 year+ old phone has 2.4 and 5Ghz Wifi. The 2.4Ghz network is unreliable in our neighbourhood due to interference. Such a shame as otherwise a great cheap phone. Motorola has released incorrect info, so some retailers are listing that the UK version does have 5Ghz wifi. Hope this helps somebody - spent hours trying to fix our kids crappy 2.4Ghz phones disconnecting from our home wifi. Never again.

Haha they're at it again Whatever you do, don't mention if you have a SIM already or ask them whether it's locked, even if you genuinely intend to use it as a second line. They'll basically call you a cheat and turn you away / insist you pay the SIM free price. Been there done that and backed up by their social media team when I had a go at them. If you have to deal with these clowns act dumb, say you need a phone and PAYG sim, and you've heard these new fangled cleverphone things need charging a lot so preferably with a good battery, and happened to think the Moto G7 Power looks good

Got this on the same deal a few weeks back. Superb phone for the money.

NOT compatible with Android Auto, so if you use it in your car, it might not be the best phone to go for, there might be a fix but who knows when.

I have numerous Qi speakers dotted around the house which I don't intend to make redundant and no I don't leave the phone on charge throughout the night.

Useful but more of a gimic, like it takes more than 0.1 seconds to plug in a reversible cable. Also with a 4000 mAh battery, good luck burning through it before you put it on charge for the night anyway.

....and then canceled as no wirlesss charging, which is a must i'm afraid.

Just started looking for a phone for my wife and like the specs/price of the G7, can't believe it was £40 cheaper yesterday :D Worst timing. Puts me off it a bit now :)

Went for Nokia 5.1 plus for £82. It is the price that swayed me. G7 for £179 is too much for me.

Not much in it - what you got now? I had a G6 play which was brilliant but found I needed a magnometer so pressed button now. If it wasnt for that would have waited for G8 play to come out. They are all good phones for the money.

yup, I agree. can't decide what to buy now, G7 for £179 or the motorola one vision for £199, or the motorola G7 plus for £219? Please help?

Think the G7 has a magnometer. The power does not. I think is useful for GPS accuracy and means specific geo based games will work on the G7 but not on the power. There's four pages of discussion on it on one website as even Motorola in the UK seemed confused, as the specs on the same phone can vary by country......

Expired - looks like they've had the sense to end this "promotion" before they have to accuse any other customers of trying to cheat the system.

Main problem is it's carphone wh*rehouse As others have said, the staff are a pack of crooks. Just walked in and tried to buy one and was refused because I mentioned I already had an EE SIM - claim they're not allowed to sell it pay as you go if you mention that as they lose money, so basically they told me to go away. Edit: to be fair it's not the staff in this instance, their Twitter account backed them up. It's company policy if they believe you'll just cast the SIM aside and put your own in. Still very poor IMO, I would most likely have ran 2 lines. Daft thing is, if you buy online and get it delivered it's no problem, no questions asked. And the brick and mortar stores wonder why they're dying out - they DESERVE to. I'll have absolutely no sympathy when the Dixons Store Groups or whatever they call themselves this week finally crash into administration and disappear from the high street.

My friend has one, he's a light user and first charged it after like a week, might have been 9 days Not "that bothered" about using it for payments. It's a nice thing to have, but for the money how hard is it to shove a card in a slot and type 4 numbers (or most of the time just present the card with no fingerprint required) Forgot about the lack of compass in these though. Dumb. That is an interesting choice as I have an s9 and am considering one of these myself, but more as a second phone for Pokémon go. Isn't it nowhere near the same league of hardware other than battery? Any idea if it has VoLTE? Makes a big difference in my area signal wise due to the 800mhz frequency access

Not that good...don't rate compass not that loud to be honest can hear cex calling...

Would John Lewis pricematch this (adding back cost of top up)?

I couldn't get on with nova, I use a lot of Microsoft based products (even had a "Microsoft" lumia 640xl for a while) so when I found they had an android launcher I was all over it!! I'm even a beta user which is quite cool. I've not really had interest in OnePlus, but may consider them depending on specs and availability through my provider.

G7 plus at £95, now that is wishful thinking right here guys! :D

Got excited for moment thinking it was the g7 plus still waiting for that to be £200 or less and with a UK chargrr

Well maybe, as one of the fixes is to remove the stock launcher from the Honor phones, but people tend to do that via ADB, so perhaps you have found a good launcher to fix the issue, I used Nova launcher and it worked wonderfully until they upgraded the phone from Android 8 to Android 9. Once the phone went to Android 9 it was like night and day, the apps I had set not to be optimized and to be locked into memory would close down, the phone would over a short period of time, run low on ram and become very laggy, I use my phone for work , so notifications cannot be delayed and my smart watch app needs to be active at all was a real pain, in the end I flogged it and re-bought another Oneplus phone....their version of Android is fairly lightly skinned and works a treat ! never any issues, they are like a work horse , if you upgrade in the near future and Oneplus is on the list of possibilites....consider it a major contender for reliability.

OK, my upgrade is due September anyway so it will only bother me when I come to sell mine. Hopefully I won't experience any of these issues before then 🤞 Just out of interest, I use the Microsoft launcher on my Honor 9 - would that make any difference??

It arrived yesterday and I am really happy with it. Well, it is getting like British car manufacturers, they essentially don't exists! Looks like only Samsung, LG and Google Android phones are worth getting at this point in time.

Moto is now owned by Lenovo which is another Chinese company. The Trump cannon might be aimed at Huawei today, but it won't be long until it's aimed at other Chinese companies. Would be nice if Google bought Moto back.

This is a good price for a phone with a UK warranty that won't suffer like Huawei. At the moment I would avoid the Chinese branded phones unless less than £125, or you change every year and never sell on your old phone..

I think there are better deals out there for a sub £300 phone - though it's a decent price if this is exactly the phone you want.
