It’s hard to imagine modern society functioning without mobile phones. These pocket miracles help people stay in touch, play games, watch TV, manage their finances, make purchases, navigate complex road networks and, if that goes wrong, book taxis. Finding the right mobile is essential, and this HotUKDeals buyer’s guide explains how to do so.

Plusnet £5 Retention Deal (iD Mobile match - 250 minutes, 5000 texts and 2.25GB)

Apparently there is no such thing as a universal "very good deal". People who use mobile data a lot, but not airtime can point out that they get 2.25GB for a fiver instead of 2GB for £6, good deal. On the other hand, those who call/text a lot can say 2000 mins/unlimited texts for £6 is better value than 250 mins/5000 texts.

jazzuk777

It might work but they don't allow it, feel free to check, I checked a week or so ago they hadn't changed their policy more recently. So if you want a contract where you can rely on it, plusnet is better.

deanos

don't think this is a very good deal l, i pay £6 for 2000 min, unlimited text and 2gb data with plusnet I also have a £1 deal but that was a misprice

iD mobile allow tethering. I know because I'm on iD and have done it.

James.Howlett

"Question: Can you text on this phone and does it have data Answer: Yes you can text, but no data, no Internet, no apps, just talk and text. By Amazon Customer on 27 November 2017" So looks like you'll have to fork out £1,000 for an iPhone (because no other smartphone exists)

darecy

I hope it has facebook, ‘cause fb is for old people - like me.

James.Howlett

I guess Apple can't justify using the "ease of use" argument to charge over £1,000 for an iPhone now

Mrswitch

Works just fine for my 92 year old grannie.

I want this phone but @ checkout it's in dollars will it convert to pounds when it shows up on my statement? thanx in advancev 8)

simes

Yes the sim card tray has a second slot for either a microSD card OR as second sim card. So,provided you don't need 2 sim cards you can extend the memory. If you need to use 2 sim cards and a micro SD card then look at the larger 5.5" screen Note 5A - this has dual sim tray and a separate micro SD tray . There are very good deals on this phone on Gearbest at the moment - fulfilled from their EU warehouses ( so quick delivery and no customs fees ). I bought the Rose Gold colour for £71.94 delivered from France ( gw-6 warehouse )

bodolf

Can you extend memory ( external) on this?

simes

Remember to add the dispatch time on to the shipping time . It shows it may not dispatch until May 6th ( which usually means they are waiting for stock) , then shipping could take 12 days . So you could still be looking at a month before you receive it ( longer if customs stop it ).

Pretty much maxed out my 128GB in my phone, so I guess that's a good place to start :D

Well to chime in I have a nintendo switch that would greatly benefit from one of these. Currently has 128gb and its full and its not the most practical thing to be changing SD cards when u want to switch game. Having all on one would be best

A pre-order phone at RRP is not exactly a deal man.

jazzuk777

Logically I can't see how it would help with low-light, but I'm not a optical engineer. Even if the 2MP was monochrome to let in more light, I'd have thought the resoIution of the image would be too ow to give data to combine to the colour sensor for that. I have only seen the depth of field/bokeh mentioned with these set-ups elsewhere.... Anyhoo, it's the Nokia 7 Plus for me for the ideal set-up (until a budget phone comes up with a stronger tele lens anyway) if it doesn't fall down on other areas.

Masteryates

It's OK Misterleoni, I was only pulling your leg. The N86 was awesome in its day but focusing took forever and it used to eat batteries. (There was a bug in the software that Nokia never fixed which meant the camera app wouldn't close down properly.)

misterleoni

You may be right, but the old sensor on the N86 might have worse dynamic range and the ISP in that old 400mhz processor won't really compete with modern inequivalents in terms of processing capabilities. The maximum aperture on the N86 was a lot narrower too, and I don't think the sensor was particularly large (VS the N8, which really did have a decent sized sensor). If the N86 takes better photos than a modern smartphone then it's pretty shameful for those modern smartphone manufacturers (unless we are talking about super-budget phones). The big downside to older phones - even ones as recent as the Lumia 1020 - is that while the optics and the sensors might be great, the shot to shot time and ability to cope with contrast and backlit subjects is so bad that you invariably end up with a bad shot half the time.

Anybody know what is the fastest (read, write, both etc) SD card? I never got to grips with how to work it out, classes, U1 or U3 etc. Or which are meant for continuous use? e.g. the way WD purple drives are optimised for surveillance, red for NAS etc. Obviously the proof is in the pudding (i.e. benchmarks) but as a rule of thumb? I've never found an SD card that is faster than a USB 3.0 memory stick - is there one?
