Motorola Moto G4 Plus 16GB SIM-Free Smartphone 2 GB RAM (Dual SIM) - White (Exclusive to Amazon)

Just sent mine back.... Ghosting issues.

For sure, not everyone suffered this problem, however I don't think it's unreasonable to describe this model as notorious for developing that particular fault.

Had the same so annoying

I've had one about two years no problems with mine.

I believe this is the model that was very prone to ghost touch problems when screen brightness was raised above minimum setting. I had one, first noticed the issue just after warranty expired, and when I went online to research the problem, I discovered it was widespread. Hence I've voted cold.

You win some, you lose some. Onward and upward.

Hmm this phone came out in June/July 2016 and isn't getting any support from Lenovo as it's now over 30 minutes old and so they stop supporting and providing updates. I still use this as my daily phone for work and home (dual sim is great!) - the one good feature is that both SIM's are 3G capable at the same time unlike later G5 model. Phone notorious for ghost touch issues. Sorry it's cold from me

Ahhhh.... Back to normality

Good luck getting 2year plus of updates unless you've seen a specific promise of that from Motorola. A decent update record went down the pan after Lenovo took over. My G5 Plus is still waiting for Oreo, not sure it'll ever come.

You can get the Motorola G5 Plus for £155.00 from Toby Deals, Cold from me. (annoyed)

G6 are out.... Think I saw the play version for 159 on here a few days ago at Argos. Brand new phone, latest Android and 2+ years of updates + security updates to os.

Cold. There are better handsets available for similar prices. Honor 9 Lite, Moto G5s, to name a few...

agreed too expensive.

Moto G4 Smartphone, Android, 5.5", 4G LTE, SIM Free, Dual SIM Model, 16GB, White £129.95 @ John Lewis
Found 25th Dec 2017Found 25th Dec 2017
Moto G4 reduced to clear at John Lewis. Not the newest phone but still one of the best budget phones. More details here:

I had one of these, became unusable (due to ghost touchscreen inputs) unless the brightness was turned right down to the minimum, both when on charge and when not.

Can't understand why this is getting any heat.... old phone now with widespread ghosting issues, not even the Plus version.

G4 was sent back after 6 months due to ghosting, annoying.

No ghost touches on my g4. Great phone, only changing it (after 10months) because it's too large for me, and I've got big hands! The g4 is not waterproof, the G3 was. Mine has recently in the last couple of months started to screen burn, but it's not permanent. The burn goes away completely in a few mins with either the phone screen off or just by watching a few YouTube clips.

A good price for a very good phone. My wife and I both have the G4 and never had the ghost touch issues. However mine has developed screen burn in. Apart from that, it's a really good phone for the price.

Too late...

The ghost touch issue only seems to crop up if you have the screen brightness turned up fairly high, I know this is more of a problem to some people than it is for others, but unless you want to have your screen turned up really bright I wouldn't worry. Having said that I personally think this is still a lot of money for a fairly old phone that is starting to show it's age.

I don't want to sound like a twat, but a G4 isn't a G4 Play. Hence the different name! ;)

Note that used deals may not always be perfect, e.g. a standard charger rather than the stated turbopower one. A chat with support should fix any issues.

I can't agree more with you, I have this phone and this ghost touch is horrible, it's uncountable the amount of time it's texted and called people without me being able to abort the operation.

Not a relevant comparison, this is the G4 Plus. The G5 Plus is the new version of this, and is around the £230 mark.

It is better then the g5 in quite a few ways: camera, gorilla glass, screen size, even the CPU is slightly better shortly. If you don't get the ghosting.

It's too expensive for an older phone with the g5 about similar price

It was more about getting it faster tbh. You can go for express options from China but they usually come at the premium of having to pay customs fees and ordering stuff from China via standard delivery can be a bit of a minefield.

Even if you could find one you would probably be paying at least a 50 quid premium. How much is a warranty worth? (annoyed)

Thanks, I wouldn't want an MTK chipset gift wrapped and unfortunately it seems as though the Qualcomm version is much more difficult to come by from suppliers in the UK.

There's a MTK (Helio) and a Qualcomm (SD625) version. The SD one is made for the Indian market and the Global version of this has all the relevant UK LTE bands covered.,searchweb201602_1_10152_10065_10151_10068_10130_10190_10307_10303_10137_10060_10155_10154_10056_10055_10054_10059_100031_10099_10103_10102_10052_10053_10142_10107_10050_10051_10324_10325_10326_10084_10083_10080_10082_10081_10110_10111_10112_10113_10114_10179_10312_10313_10184_10314_10078_10079_10210_10073-10051,searchweb201603_20,ppcSwitch_5_ppcChannel&btsid=c2ee3422-349c-4297-bfd2-2800c2a4bcd6&algo_expid=8794fa0f-0773-4125-979e-990b3b546401-3&algo_pvid=8794fa0f-0773-4125-979e-990b3b546401

Mine arrived today. Screen is perfect. Bezel has a few small dings and there is quite a big ding at the bottom where it has obviously been dropped. Very disappointed with Argos here as it says this it the best category of refurbished phone they sell. Anyway, its going back and I will look elsewhere. Any ideas where I might get an excellent condition one from? Obviously looked on Ebay....

I got this one from carphone warehouse 5 months ago for £145 (new with 12 months warranty). It is absolutely brilliant.

That's great for those who want to spend £200 for a used phone. Or you could buy one of these and spend £100 on something entirely different. It's a daft comparison you are making.

Good price for a good phone, especially if you are a little older and need a slightly bigger screen. Well worth a look.

I bought a refurbished Nexus 9 then the screen died about 10 months later ... got a complete refund after sending the device back for them to examine it.

Cool story bro

3 down? perhaps i got unlucky 3 times? or perhaps you got lucky once? ;) - either way no more cheap phones for me!

I've bought a refurb phone from Argos, had problems and they paid for the return. Very easy and fair I have the G4 Play and my wife has the G5. If this comes back into stock, I will buy for the turbo charging (60% charged in 15mins) as well as the additional performance that I dont neeed over the G4 Play. Beware the G5 power button. its in a bloody silly place. middle of right side where you hold the phone by default. Otherwise its OK

Yeah the price difference is a big pill to swallow but the G5+ is a better phone so it's worth the price hike. The G4+ is still a great phone and even better now it's getting cheaper.

I've had the G4 Plus until now and just got the G5 Plus and it really does feel like a noticeable step up - like previous poster, I love the sensor swipe to navigate option and the camera results indoor look really really promising so far. But it is twice the price. The G4 Plus is a good phone, it's just I love the G5 Plus.

Surely the myth that more pixels is better has been dispelled by now? It simply is not the case, surely you know that? The Spark X camera has an aperture of f/2.8, generally f/2.0 is the standard for budget cameras now (pretty certain the 13mp on the standard G5 is for f/2.0 for example), f/2.8 is really poor. The G4 Plus came in with a score of 84 on DXOMark, a *very* respectable result (oh and it has 16MP, the even more excellent G5 Plus camera has 12MP) compared to the all-time top score of 90.

13mp vs 12?

Not if the camera is important to you.

seems a good deal as 85 pounds cheaper than the g5 plus?

The G5 is the newer model, it's no more confusing than the iphone 6, 6s, 7, 7s. The G5 Plus is the best of the bunch (and what I intend to get when the price comes down to the £200 mark), followed by (IMO) G4 Plus, G5, G4 (though the G5 is not worth paying much more for than the G4)

so what is better. The moto g4 or g4 plus, or the g5 or g5 plus? so confusing

Very good phone, very good price (though should probably heading towards the £150 mark now the G5 is out). Sadly deals on this phone always go ice cold cos some people just can't get their heads around the G4 Plus and G4 being completely different phones (_;)

With you there Robert! CS are hopeless as well. They don't know what phones are coming in until they are on the website. Useless!

what a surprise - a sainsburys phone deal that is oos

They should've retired the MotoG after the G3...was never gonna get any better than that. Now its just a confused model. Is it budget? Is it mid ranged? Is it top end? Its ended up being none of the above and alienated its support base ( including me - bought 7 from G1 to G3). Now moved over to Xiaomi

That's what I thought until my daughter's four month old G4 started playing up. Initially thought it was due to her not taking good care of it, but when the ghosting got worse I contacted Amazon and was told it was a known problem and they were having lots of returns as a result. Reports of it all over the internet. Wouldn't buy another.

Not sure if this has been any cheaper.

The only person I know of who managed to get a refund did so by instigating court action. In my case I had 2 failed repairs and they then wanted to give me a reconditioned phone - and made it sound as though they were doing me a favour! I found out later that after the first failed repair I was legally entitled to a refund. This gives a flavour of what you're up against! If the phone was purchased using a credit card then the card issuer is jointly liable under Section 75

Yes - they have supposedly tried to repair it so now need to contact them to see where we go from here. Ideally I just want a working phone - if they can't fix it then may need to go for a refund.

Was it purchased directly from Motorola? I found them a horrific company to deal with. They consistently refused to honour their obligations under the Consumer Rights' Act.

No complaints with my g4 and I've owned it since December. Can't see the appeal of a metal backed phone like the g5. My iPad air feels cold and there is no grip to it. Just my opinion though.

The one from Motorola is the dual sim version though i believe.

I think because people have the 2GB G5 O2 deal in their sights, and instinctively think that the G5 MUST be better than the G4 because it is a newer model. You can see it in the other G4 deal (Tesco Direct) with posts such as “only £10 more for G5”. Yet take a look at the specs and you can understand why the G4 is selling at pretty much the same price as the G5, and why the G5 is hardly an “upgraded” version of the G4, and is in some ways a downgrade (namely the screen and battery).

I think its out of stock at Motorola now - I wasn't able to order and found it at Tesco :-)

Originally this was out of stock when I put this deal up, but credit due good spot.
