Some quick information on how Black Friday and Cyber Monday came about:

Black Friday exploded in popularity as online shopping took off in the 2000s - Black Friday UK soon followed and is now a MASSIVE yearly event for many.
What is Cyber Monday?
Cyber Monday is a marketing term referring to the first Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday in the US, which lasts for 24 hours.
When does Black Friday start?
Officially it's the 26th November but some merchants go early, usually around 3 weeks prior.
When does Cyber Monday start?
Cyber Monday is 29th November, usually lasting one day but over the past few years we have seen some deals extended into the day after but wouldn't count on it.

More Ways to be Black Friday / Cyber Monday ready:
Just because a price drops during a Black Friday sale, this doesn't always make something a great deal. Some may not be a bargain they're made out to be...
Take your list of targets and search on hotukdeals to see what the best prices have been over the last few months. You can also try using CamelCamelCamel, which lets you search for price history on Amazon as a decent benchmark, another is Pricespy.
Weigh up the costs of warranties
For example: Retailer A, may offer a TV for £700 with a 1 year warranty but retailer B may over the same TV for £750 but with a 5 year warranty, £50 extra for an extra 4 years' peace of mind could be totally worth it.
Sort out the best way to pay for items from abroad
Some of the best deals come from websites based overseas, such as Chinese retailers like AliExpress or Amazon Germany.
If you want to take best advantage of these, it pays off to sort out a dedicated payment method which charges less or no fees. You can read all about these in our Buying from abroad: from taxes to returns, how to shop safely guide
Many retailers have a price promise
Many retailers have a price promose i.e you buy say 26th November, if you spot it cheaper wthin say 30 days, you can claim back the difference. This does differ between each retailer. Some retailers don't have a price promise at all, but may do it as a good will gesture so worth bearing in mind.
If buying a mobile phone contract
if taking out a contract, factor in the price rise in April, as this may take you over your budget.

Our predictions of Black Friday and Cyber Monday bargains
It is really difficult to accurately predict the deals we will see - we talk with retailers to get an idea about whether they'll be getting involved or not, but the details of specific products and prices aren't revealed until much closer to the time though.
However, based on what we have seen in previous years, and last year being pretty difficult due to COVID, we are happy to share the sort of areas we'd expect to see offers in, and some benchmarks for what good would look like
What Black Friday 2021 deals do we think will be popular?
Games consoles - PS4, Xbox One S, Xbox One X and the Nintendo Switch & Switch - with PlayStation and Microsoft releasing the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, along with Nintendo releasing the new OLED Switch, i'm hopeful we'll see some stronger bundles on 'last gen' consoles, although still very popular.
Also likely we'll see some strong prices on the likes of Call Of Duty: Vanguard and FIFA 22
Currys (Now rebranded Currys again, rather than Currys PC World) had some strong discounts last year which includes Laptops like the ASUS ZenBook 14 UM433IQ-A5037T 14" Laptop and the Nvidia Shield TV 4K Media Streaming Device
Halfords usually has something up it's sleeve with discounts ride-on toys, reduced bikes, money off XX spends with vouchers, free delivery and so on.
If you're looking for Broadband or Superfast Broadband, likely it's worth holding off until end of November as we saw some strong deals e.g Virgin Media Ultimate Oomph - £77.99pm - £35 setup - M500 Fibre / 2 V6 Boxes + Sky Sports & Cinema / Unlimited Data Sim + Free 4K 43" TV
eBay usually have some sort of code, usually around a week before black Friday itself. Usually around 20% off selected sellers, we may even see a discount sitewide (we can dream!)
Tesco came out with some cracking deals last year including the Nintendo Switch, some dead cheap TV's and even Amazon Fire Sticks
Costco usually have some sort of discount, the last 2 years have been £10 off a £100 spend via a voucher code (see here). Expect the same again but time will tell.
Amazon is likely to have 20% - 30% off various warehouse deals, offers on Amazon Prime membership, discounted Amazon Music offers, the usual tech stuff & more
John Lewis & Partners often takes part with the usual discounts on gaming, home, electricals - and all with its famous extended warranties.
ALDI was a big suprise last year, they had some super strong offers including LEGO and a cracking nintendo Switch offer

It's going to be just as crap Friday was.
It's hard to tell sometimes, think some of these sites want you to bite with the 'early' black friday deals before the day when you might get better deals, but then they might not come either.
Personally it's a bit nicer to have a bit more time as i'm not a good impulse buyer, I like to debate, research and decide! Although sometimes can miss out too!
Going by last year, it should start on Black Friday itself or on Thursday
Am i right in thinking you buy one set at £150.
Then one set at £48.
Then take the £48 set back with the £150 receipt giving you what you think is £102 profit.
But actually just leaves you with the first pair costing £48.
Which is the same as buying said pair on BF anyway???
On Amazon I use camelcamelcamel. It tracks the price and shows you what it has been priced at in the past
Lots of places increase prices just before or make discount look really good.
Easy to get sucked in and be mindful deals on here are paid to hukd for the links so just as it's on here doesn't mean it's always a bargain
What about it? You saying you prefer mac os?
Thanks Dan much appreciated! I'm already with three so it might be easy to transfer from my sim only too
It’s £800-£900 for a brand new Macbook Air (there’s even some brand new ones going on ebay for around £700-£800) it won’t run Windows since Apple has changed it’s hardware beginning 2020 making Windows not usable so if there’s anything she uses on a laptop that only runs on Windows it would not be recommended but if its just Zoom, email, Microsoft Office etc then that will be ok.
You can pick up a used 2018 model for around £500-£600 the 2019 model gets listed for £650+ sometimes you can get one around the £600 mark. Anything pre 2020 will run Windows if needed but it may come with some cosmetic blemishes and will run slower and hotter than the 2020 models due to the hardware that wasn’t very good even back when they were new.
The old Macbook Airs pre 2020 were entry level laptops that were about he same as your £300-£400 Windows laptop but you paid for the Apple brand and the after care that came with it, but for using it as you suggest it will likely be fine.
If she plans to save a lot of large files to the laptop such as video and photos one thing to consider is the Macbook Air will come with a very small hard drive but for saving word documents and spreadsheets etc that will be enough and you can always buy a portable hard drive to plug in if needed later down the line. (edited)
Fire HD 32gb is £39.99 on Amazon at present…
if taking out a contract now factor in the price rise in April. Most networks are cpi/rpi + 3.9% so it could be a 8-9% rise if inflation continues as predicted. We're switching to a sim only deal and buying the phones this time around (edited)
Many retailers have a price promise, so worth checking if within that timeframe, might save a bit of hassle....
Cheers! (edited)
Usual price VS previously on sale price is a big consideration.
This probably wont sit will with the hotukdeals affiliate programme but its a point worth remembering in the spirit of the forum.
There are lots of price history sites so worth checking before you click buy.
I agree. There's no profit there you've just got the £102 back you spent in the first place
I was like, am I missing something... You're still spending the same
what’s the math here mate ?
And she probably hates the shoes too.
I see the same.
I also see 3 trips to the store, instead of just 1.
I can’t see how you make any profit? Surely all you are getting is the hassle of returning a pair?
would 100% wait, usually we see some very strong mobile contracts over the Black Friday Period.
Other half is also out of contract and wants the S21, so will be keeping an extra eye!
Re dupes, if you spot a dupe then please report it and the CS team will review it
On the affiliate side, just to make it clear, a deal is a deal, regardless if they work with hotukdeals or not. The whole point being, if merchants meet criteria, then deals would be allowed. e.g Tesco instore offers were pretty big last year, along with ALDI and many more (this goes for any time of year also)
Also 100% agree with checking if getting a good deal or not, it's actually in the thread explaining this
Cheers and enjoy the rest of your day!
Ah thank you, took some time!
What happened? Just curious.
The graphic and design stuff is outdated assumptions at this point. They certainly don't have have a power edge on it, and the main tools are basically feature equivalent on both platforms. I've dealt with thousands of business users, including a few hundred on Macs, and aside from a couple of very specific business apps that were Mac only (effectively legacy software) there is no reason you'd have to use a Mac it's just preference; but preference is a perfectly good reason imo.
Blacker or Blackest Friday that. This should be called Dark Grey Friday really
This Black Friday is and always was a complete non-starter given the pandemic and severe impacts on the economy, coupled with the fact that retailers don't want everyone leaving their purchases to 26th November as their logistics, supply network and delivery systems are already at breaking point. Best example of a damp squib I have ever seen.
Example - People waiting or 'holding out' since August or whatever for sub £200 / doorbuster deals on gaming consoles and what not. Happy to be corrected of course, but it was never going to happen with a global chip supply and demand shortage. Microsoft can't get Series X consoles out of the door quick enough, but kids will still want an Xbox for Xmas. Plenty of Series S availability and MS know they will sell, so there is no need for them to heavily discount these things, they will sell in bucketloads regardless.
Already seen people saying 'waiting for Monday', presumably after they have been 'waiting for Black Friday' for months on end.
Some cost vs benefit analysis is needed here, there have been plenty more and better value deals throughout the year. How much does one value their time to continually wait for something that will never happen?
